Why are our players so poor in front of goal ? Why do we rarely shoot on sight ? We'd have never scored the Palace winner because a Stoke player would have controlled the ball and tried a slide rule pass into the box. Do we spend too much time in training trying to become Barcelona and not enough just being instinctive ? I sometimes think our play is a little forced,in that they've been trained to play a certain way and don't know how to deviate

I think the false 9 is worth persevering with. It seems to get the best out of Bojan and Afellay, and that can only be a good thing. People panicking about yesterday's result need to realise that we were just exceptionally unlucky.
In games where we're not creating much then going 4-2-3-1 with Diouf in-front of the obvious 3 should be Plan B.
Not sure how anyone can start hankering after Joselu's inclusion on what we've seen so far, and we all know that Walters leading the line isn't a long-term answer.

Given that we found ourselves 1-0 down at half time perhaps a more viable plan B would have been to put Diouf on at the start of the second half and play with a true striker rather than a false 9? I would have had Diouf on before SJW given yesterday's circumstances. I don't think a change was needed at the start of the second half. I'd have out Diouf on before SJW but we don't know what sort of state he's in do we?

False No.9 or natural striker, they all need shooting practice, it's not like we've created 0 chances with either setup we just can't seem to find the back of the net when we do create chances

Sort of agree, but if Diouf is ready for the bench surely he's ready for a seven minute run out rather then playing Ryan up top?

Didn't Diouf score 15 goals last year and was playing in the African cup and missed a few games with a hamstring problem and played on the wing a few times that's a very decent return and he's always chasing back a perfect foil for Johnson , chasing lost causes get him in the team he might be a bit rusty but he will get goals

Well let's see how this works for a few games then:
Whelan Affelay Shaq Bojan Arnie Diouf
Joselu on for Diouf after 65 mins if it's not happening
If there's still no goals by mid Jan, then sell and buy.

Still to be convinced the false 9 is a suitable default tactic going forward, but I'd probably stick with it against Man U. Against West Ham I felt we were desperate for a presence up front, that said we created two good chances for Arnie and Van Ginkel in the first half. But for the most part there was just no-one in the box as Arnie seemed to be playing his conventional role. Didn't see much of the Palace game but we looked pretty good in what I did see.
Fine with Diouf as our striker. He does miss chances and had two good opportunities to score against the hammers, but his scoring rate is pretty decent and until his mother died he had started the season well - 3 goals in about 5-6 games wasn't it?* Give the guy a chance to get his head right and confidence up. This time last year we had plenty saying he was shit and has the coordination of a newborn foal and he finished with our record top score for a premier league season*.
*=may be factually incorrect but I can't be arsed to check the numbers that exist in my head.

One of the factors that made the false no.9 work so well against Citeh is being overlooked.Overlapping fullbacks. Both got forward at will, linked up with the wingers and because it often resulted in a 2 v 1 situation we found plenty of space behind their defence. They fullbacks didn't really overlap v Palace

I think he'll use it again v the shit. They will probably be playing 8 or 9 men behind the ball, so we need those clever players up top to try and unlock them.
