Burton Albion v Aston Villa in a league game.As a 11 year old boy i remember watching Burton Albion home games(Neil Warnock was The Brewers manager) at Eton Park in The Gola League. I also remember watching Aston Villa win the European Cup on Tv in the same season against Bayern Munich and everyone at school was wearing wristbands like Peter Withe and pretending to lift the European Cup. Next season they could be playing each other...football is weird but great. Keep it going You Brewers.

Yes dreams do happen.
Remember it was only fifteen years ago that Macclesfield Town we're hosting a league game against Manchester City.
Burton v Villa isn't half as fanciful really is it?

Lived in Winshill, from the age of 7 to 14 and went Eton Park most home games on saturday's and have strong feelings for the club still. Nice one. Eton Park was a proper old lower league tin shed ground. First time I ever went in the early eighties it made me laugh because the crowd all changed ends at half time. I say all, they were getting about 250 crowds then in the Southern League (or something like that).

Stones throw from Albions ground (old and new). In fact back in the day I used to play on the old Pirelli sports ground before the Albion built their new stadium on it.

Used to play for Ind Coope at various ages groups and some of the Burton players would use the same training facilities, saw Warnock there many times.Went Robert Sutton school in Stapenhill.Me and the wife still come over to Burton on the odd shopping trip, still have a lot of affection for the area and Burton's result is the first i always look out for after the Stoke game finishes. What is the local reaction to JFH leaving and Clough returning?

Yes mate remember it well. I used to play for Bass as well on that pitch on the meadows (been about a bit me ) It was a brilliant pitch but quite what the pro's made of it I don't know. They weren't quite as precious then as now I suspect.

What is the local reaction to JFH leaving and Clough returning? I think a lot knew Jimmy wouldn't be here long and the majority are happy with the appointment of Clough. I think theres a lot of affection for Cloughie because of the success of his previous spell. Not sure myself he didn't exactly pull up any trees at Derby or Sheffield and he might just be too comfortable and relaxed at Burton. We'll see.

Does anyone here think Burton are close to their glass ceiling if they go up? I can't help thinking about the rise and fall of Yeovil Town, as they are a simililar size club and support. I think Burtons average crowd is in the 2,500 to 3,000 bracket, I can't see that being able to sustain a championship club for long. I hope to be proved wrong, as i always enjoy a visit to the friendly Pirelli Stadium.

Burton has a very large football support base, but due to the lack of league football the area mainly has Derby County fans. But the club is important to locals and could get bigger, very well run club.

Unless they get a major investor in they will really struggle which is a shame. The chairman Ben Robinson, whilst he's a rich man compared to me probably isn't even a millionaire. You need a multi Millionaire backer just to compete in the Championship now. It's also quite funny that the Pirelli stadium is renowned for being a friendly place to visit with their fans causing less mither than any professional club in the country and yet (so my kids tell me) a night out in Burton is like the wild west and much more intimidating and threatening than Derby or Brum.

That's my impression of Burton, always a murmur of approval if Derby and Forest are winning at half time. They own the stadium, and I believe little or no debt.

You're right mate the club is important to the locals but they still only draw 3-4 k for home games despite all the recent success. It's still dominated by Derby and it will need quite a period of consolidation for those kids who now have Albion tops for Christmas instead of Derby to grow up to become full adult ticket paying customers. So if they do go up they will need bigger funds than Ben Robinson can provide.
