Blimey that is very sad, I wonder whether his moody behaviour lead to this situation, post natal depression is quite common and a wife needs a very supportive husband which I suspect he wasn't I'm afraid to say.I assume they have split up now and if Nzonzi isn't seeing his child it must be affecting him. Who are you, her mum?

If he played for Stoke they'd have sent him off! Sorry, couldn't resist. To be serious this, sounds like a common marital spat which escalated and probably wouldn't have reached court if proper mediation had been given a chance. Does his ex wife still live in England? Is she English? If she and the baby do still live here it is an even sadder case - for any parent to live in a different country to their young child can't be good for the parent or child. Reading 'The Sentinel, Mrs(ex) Nzonzi's evidence didn't tally with the Polizei's so always difficult to find someone guilty in those circumstances? Agreed. The facts as outlined by Mrs N'Zonzi in her phone call to the police didn't match up with what the Police found when they attended the scene. That should have been enough to ring alarm bells and suggest the case shouldn't go to court. But I don't know what the guidelines are for "domestic incidents" - perhaps the tendency is to go to court if one party wants to - even though the case is weak. As I said - a proper mediation might have achieved a better result at far less cost. Then again, mediation is only feasible if BOTH parties agree.

Just my opinion, probably both to blame in the breakdown of the relationship but I can't think that he would be the easiest bloke to live with based on the petulance and moods we saw on the pitch.Players can be a lot different off the pitch but as I say just my opinion which is what Oatcake is all about. It would be boring if we all agreed on everything.

The CPS do not care what the 'victim' wants. It's all a government led figures based policy. The 'victim' in this matter never supported a prosecution and did not attend Court. The CPS knew she wouldn't be attending months and months ago. The case was seemingly based on the 999 call only. The reason the CPS continue with unwinnable cases is because our courts appoint magistrates whose sole duty is to reverse the burden of proof.....if it's dv....You're guilty until proven innocent and we don't care how poor or inadmissible the evidence is.

She didnt attend to give evidence. In the old days that would be that.
The only corrobative evidence contradicted her initial account.
A brave prosecutor would just offer no evidence, but it's not worth failing foul of guidelines.
They should of offered no evidence (see: Granville Jenner) but it takes too much bollocks, easier put the burden on the magistrates. Once the IP didnt turn up the case was dead in the water.
Doesn't prove it's untrue (she'd be mad to kill the golden goose) but should not of gone beyond her non attendance.
Prosecting the hopeless is official CPS policy. It wastes tax payer money but does cause some abusers to rethink their attitude because it's a pain in the arse nontheless.
So still some benefit.
