The chairman has gone on record saying that we are looking for another midfielder. You would assume that if we are successful in signing one in the transfer window then VG would return to Chelsea. If not, then he'll stay till the end of the season as cover.

Think we'll look to send him back in all honesty. Hughes mentioned today we're looking at a couple of loan deals but need to get a few players off the books. Considering he's not getting much game time, he'll be an easy one to get rid of. Would also free up a loan spot. I'd be gutted if we still want Jedinak now though and sent Van Ginkel. Massive backwards step. We need younger midfielders. Is it?

Won 0 games with him, Virtually every one without him. He offers absolutely nothing to the team and is one of the main reasons we started the season so shit Not for me, young lad, new to the club and was thrown straight into the first team when the whole team underperformed, not just MVG. We've been on a good run recently and Hughes has been sticking with a winning side and even Diouf hasn't been able to force his way in. Hopefully MVG can take his chance next time it comes around, we need young players with potential for the long term and although he is currently a loan signing I'm sure he will be available come the end of the season as he won't be getting any game time at Chelsea, MVG just needs to step up and take his chance next time he is given one. Good luck to the lad.

Good luck to the lad. I can't see him sealing a place in our team. Adam (despite some limitations) has done a decent job alongside Whelan and Afellay in his recent cameo appearances is starting to look like the very good player he used to be, with great passing and the ability to hang onto the ball. I doubt Afellay is a long term solution but he'll do nicely and give us time to find a new N'Zonzi in his early 20s. Our biggest need in central midfield is cover/competition for Whelan in the holding role.

If van Ginkel is the answer, then fuck knows what the question is!
He will not have a Premier League career with us or Chelsea or anyone else for that matter.
He will end up back in the Eredivisie in a couple of years, where tackling is seen as pointless and the focus is on pretty passing football.

It's a shame that it's worked out this way, very talented youngster but just hasn't seemingly performed for us. Hopefully it doesn't sour any relations with Chelsea because these loan deals aren't all bad.

Agreed the lad is not happy, he was a huge gamble as a replacement for Zonz, he is not going to get game time here as Hughes has decided he is not up to the job, he needs offloading best thing for both parties, cut our losses and bring in a player who is able to fill the void left.

I'm not sticking the boot in on Van Ginkel. However, on the evidence so far I don't think he is as good as alternatives we have in the squad to partner Whelan. Afellay, Adam and (possibly) Cameron look better bets to me. And Van Ginkel certainly can't do the Whelan role on the evidence we have seen so far. If events prove me wrong - great - it won't bother me if he proves to be the Messiah. And I'll have nothing to eat humble pie about, because I am not slagging him off - I just think we have better alternatives.

Adam was always the better partner whilst Whelan was overseeing Ryans captain role. Now that Ryan is back, playing alongside Whelan maybe a completely different situation for the lad. He hasn't been superb for us, granted but he hasn't been a disaster either.

I agree mostly with Lakeland - but much more importantly Hughes appears to agree with him too. With Afellay looking to be Hughes's first choice as midfield cover, Van Ginkel is going to struggle for game time.
He needs games, so it would probably be best all round if Van Ginkel could find a new loan deal in January. He hasn't been a disaster but it just hasn't worked out here.

I thought he'd be an all-action, dynamic midfielder but he's really not. He doesn't even look that good with the ball at his feet. I don't know what his game is based on in all honesty, maybe he needs to have a think about what he wants to be. Does he want to be a holding midfielder like Whelan or does he want to score goals like Lampard used to? At the moment, he does neither particularly well. He's still too young to write him off but he just seems a bit lost here.

I am afraid he is the only stoke player I don't like though I wouldn't go as far as too boo him. I don't like his lack of attitude People might laugh at charlie Adams old school.. Get your retaliation in first, try and get a bit of ball and go through the guy,oh blimey I actually clean won the ball but stamped on the bloke as I got up just to let him know I am there thing But at least it is an attitude

We have the oldest squad in the league, we have 3 players, 4 if you include Cameron who are 29 and above for central midfield. We need young blood. We don't need Jedinak. We need a dynamic box to box midfield who can attack and defend and know when to do it.

Van Ginkel should be sent back ASAP. In January we need a younger CM than Jedinak. We have got ages to look for this player where as I think people only accepted the idea of Jedinak signing in the summer because we were desperate.
