Any serious cyclists out there wanting to get some quality winter training in?
Newcastle Racing Club meet Sunday 9.30am at Poachers Cottage pub in Trentham.
Great bunch of lads and lasses.

Do you instill an ethos as to which is the best way to piss off other road users, such as riding side-by-side on a country road?

What distance are the runs? What average speed. I still ride but advancing years have slowed me down a bit. Not raced for 10 years.

Saw a wagon at the lights in Manchester yesterday and thought it was reversing, the message it was playing out went along the lines of "this vehicle is turning left", which I interpreted as "if you're dumb enough to be on the inside of me on a push bike you deserve to get fucking crushed, and don't say you weren't warned". Quite impressive really.

Do you instill an ethos as to which is the best way to piss off other road users, such as riding side-by-side on a country road? That's allowed as per Highway Code However on country roads if a car was coming we quickly go single file. We don't have to though.

Far safer for the cyclist to ride two a breast and considering they aren't protected by a metal shell it's probably better they ride as safely as possible. As always there are shit cyclists who give the safe and considerate ones a bad name however there are also plenty of bad drivers out there.

Ah, but in saying that, why was it when I was in Bastard Northwich the other month, I saw them in the distance behind each other, as soon as I approached, and on a bend, they decided to go side-by-side. Isn't this more dangerous on a blind bend?

Not road cyclists like you folk - but something that worries me.
Folk cycling dressed in black in the dark.
Nearly hit a girl the other day. I was at a T-junction going left. Opposite is darkness, street lighting very poor. I sense more than see a dark object and next moment a girl dressed in black on a back with a limp front light passed in front of me. Seen quite a lot of this in the past few weeks - when you're seeing shadows moving rather than an obvious road user. BTW - my eyesight is fine!
If you cycling in darkness - wear hi vis clothes.
Frankly I'd make it a law for cyclists - proper clothes and proper lights. Get fucking seen!
Apologies for wandering off subject a little.

Wear hi vis even in the daytime. Be seen. I was knocked off a bike in broad daylight by a car pulling out while I was crossing a T junction. He said he just hadn't seen me. He was insistent it was his fault and he was very sorry; and he paid for the bike. But then that would have been no consolation to me had he written me off as well.

Some people forget that cyclists have a "right" to use the road. Motorists on the other hand, have no such "right" - they have to qualify.

Always makes me giggle when you see one of the lunatics cycling down the A50 at 6am!! Pitch black on a road that's as busy as a motorway. Some of them have got a death wish

Have you ever played a computer game where as, you drive past a cyclist and then the cyclist disappears. Well in real life the cyclist doesn't disappear so don't fucking cut me up then.

Isn't this more dangerous on a blind bend? Why would you even contemplate overtaking someone on a blind bend? Riding two abreast can be a defensive move to discourage overtaking in places where it isn't safe to do so.

There does seem to be a trend amongst some cyclists that they want to wear dark blues and blacks - almost giving the finger to motorists - well it's your job to spot me.

A sad indictment of our society that being held up for a matter of seconds can lead to a gamble with other people's safety or in rare cases actually using a 1000kg machine as a weapon.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you . Cyclists thinking it's ok to hold people up because they say so and drivers thinking it's ok to risk killing someone out of revenge . Sign of the times I'm afraid.

Anybody who puts their rights as per the Highway Code before their safety in the real world is a danger not only to themselves but also to others and I include all road users in that. It doesn’t matter what the Highway Code says when you’ve got an HGV bearing down on you on a tight country road.

Irritated or dead, I know which one I would prefer. You are always going to get poor users on the road, let me know the day that doesn't happen.
