It mainly comes down to goal difference. Ours is -3, which is par for the course for us. Last season, courtesy of our last hurrah against the Dippers, was the first season (I think) in which we finished with a positive GD since we got promoted. Swansea have scored more than us, which is why they are 13th rather than us, despite identical points and GD. But I would prefer our current form to theirs, and I expect us to leapfrog them anytime soon. If it wasn't for the freakish results against Albion and Watford, we would be very happy with our season so far, and those results are the difference between where we are and being in the top six. And last season, there was Villa and Burnley and Leicester at home that were the hiccups, so plus ca change. Not sure you can call the Watford result freakish TBH, they deserved their win. The west Brom one was though! Unexpected, perhaps, rather than freakish. Every new dog has its day, as we did in our first season or two, achieving some 'unexpected' results against teams that should normally have been expected to beat us. Watford's strength is their novelty: most people don't know much about their capabilities or patterns of play, with so many new players from abroad and a manager who is equally unknown in England. How Flores responds to the second half of the season, when people have worked them out a little better, and treat them with a bit more respect, should be his bigger test.

The good news, if there can be any in this, is that we have been incredibly efficient with the distribution of our somewhat parsimonious goals total. We haven't wasted any goals at all by scoring in any of our defeats, so despite our miserable goals scored total there remains a thin veneer of semi-respectability to our points total.
I don't imagine for even half a second the coaching team are happy with the current situation. We have almost ceased to exist as an attacking force and lets face it no one is going to be happy about being the lowest scorers in the entire Football League.
They will be doubling down in their efforts to find an answer, of that I am certain.

You are in danger of making 'the thin veneer' into a cliche and then a truism. Nowt thin about our squad Gods.

I'd rather have a better defence than attack. Most teams start when they get there defence sorted. I'm convinced that with Diouf, Bojan, Shaq and Arni goals will eventually come.

Lack of net investment I'd say.

Lack of net investment I'd say. Oh for crying out loud don't start with the nets. It's bad enough Tony banging on about the corners all the time. What's up with them anyway. You'll be telling us they're full of holes next.

Goals are important but not as important as final scores. That said, we've had a difficult start to the season which isn't all that unsurprising. Bojan still coming back, Diouf's situation, Joselu hasn't quite hit the ground running.
I think we're panicking far too much though. We've created chances and there's been a few games that it should have been a cricket score.
Diouf is back now and he'll make a huge difference.

The hole in the middle vacated by N'zonzi is now occupied by the gravity crocodile. The immense gravitational field is sucking the ball into the middle of the park making it hard for either team to score a goal. As we all know money solves everything so all we need to do is scatter a trail of ten pound notes from the centre circle to the goal to counteract its malign influence, not forgetting to hoover them up at half time so that we can hold on to the lead.
That or wait until the newcomers bed in and we get some understanding and fluidity in our play.

I'm sure everyone, fans, players, the management would welcome a good return of goals and most have faith that we will improve Expectations are / were very high with some new "marquee signings", mainly attacking ones! We all pay to see entertaining football, it's points that count and we are managing to secure them , even though we seem unable to put in a 90 minute match where we play well. Better teams do get points when underperforming, I'm hopeful that we will improve. We do need to be the 12th man at all times, but especially when the play is frustrating and there are few shots on goal

We are trying to play football but it isn't working currently and it's pretty dull...........what's wrong with saying that? If that was all you said I very much doubt anyone would mind, or possibley even have noticed you'd said it, but that isn't what you say, is it? Pick any thread you like on this forum & you'll find dozens of posts from you slagging off our players about how shit they are. Post after post, thread after thread, day after day it's the same. By time you've spent a week reading this forum you've easily had the misfortune of reading a thousand posts by you doing nothing but saying how shit everyone & everything is at Stoke City... Add in the other two bellends (Benji & March) and you're often left wondering if you're on the right forum or not, as I'm sure this place is meant to be for Stoke city supporters. They're not the best though are they (well the ones I slate anyway). Day after day my arse, I barely come on here in the week anymore. And that last bit is just bollocks.
