Yep. Add Cameron to that who was very much in the conversation for motm and Wollscheid who was very much the leader of the central defensive partnership and won everything. Cameron was good then mate? Missed last night unfortunately. Anyone do enough to force themselves into the team against Man City? Most of the team looked very good, including Cameron. He's got great energy and strength to cover massive amounts of ground in midfield. A huge asset for a game against Man City you would have thought? However, great victory though it was, any enthusiasm for certain performances has to be tempered by the fact that they were absolutely toss. They played at a walking pace, never pressed us at all and made absolutely no attempt to make a tackle worthy of the name. It was like an exhibition match at times. The 3 lads in midfield were all excellent but they were up against practically nothing in terms of opposition. Adam has curtailed his natural instincts to do a job for the team and I think he's done well. I can see why some would say his place is under threat and if it were, all 3 of those that played last night could come in and do a job v Man City. I liked MVG's performance. Full of energy and running and he gets forward brilliantly. He's a goal threat I'm sure and I reckon he will go on to be a very good player. How good and whether that's in time for us to see it, remains to be seen. I think the team of the last few weeks will be restored on Saturday but I expect to see Diouf in the side in place of Walters who really isn't playing well at the moment.

Thought all of them did well and hope it has done them good , Joselu is the weird one , clearly has class but still not sure if he will work here , Affelay looks better each time I see him , could start for me for either Bojan or Shaq on current form . Van Ginkel looked more confident tonight than I have seen him again how he brings that into the leagueI'm not so sure . But a good night for all of them Agree 100% they did really well, but - and I'm trying to be realistic not negative, that Bisctwat's job - there is surely a little perspective to apply, namely that we were playing a non-Prem side, who had made a load of changes and didn't look bothered either way But still great performances, Affelay the pick for me

I thought he was really good mate, I had him as man of the match behind Afellay. Hard to say about Saturday - you'd hope Diouf starts if he's able to - Walters looks shagged. If there's a spot up for grabs it's probably Charlie's, but I think there's an argument for keeping him in as well. Yeah I'd like to see Diouf given a run now. You'd fancy him to be our main goal threat in our current set up and we are crying out for his pace.

This "putting family over Stoke" lark is difficult to grasp but I'm trying my best. Couldn't really justify an extra game in the run up to Xmas. Instead, I'll put the money to my lads first stoke strip, with Bojan on the back

I've missed more games in the last 12 months than I have done in the last 20 years. Needs must and all that! I've no problem missing for my boys but I would never miss one for the Mrs!

Morning Stokies, First of all, congratulations absolutely thoroughly deserved your win. In terms of the game, I thought it was men against boys, the one thing we have done all season is press the opposition affording them as little time to settle and in my opinion this is the something every lower league team needs to superior opposition. Tonight we looked very poor all over the park. At the back we seemed to panic and we certainly missed the creativity of Forestieri and the energy of Bannan. Hooper looks well off the pace up front and I think your defence simply ‘dealt’ with any threat carried by Joao. You will see from my previous posts that I travel to most games home (given) and away but last night was on a par with the performance at Charlton which I kindly put down to tiredness but having only played two games after the international break I can’t blame that on last night. We didn’t expect to win, I knew you guys would be a totally different proposition to Newcastle and Arsenal, given the stage of the competition and relative priorities, but what I did expect was for the lads to leave nothing on the pitch, give it 100%, close down, press high up the pitch, defend from the front and try and make the most of any chance that comes as a result of that, we didn’t. So, I don’t think based on that performance that any team will have had an easier more comfortable ride into the semi-finals of any cup competition than last night, but you can only beat what’s in front of you and as I have said without a doubt Stoke 110% deserved the result. Atmosphere, thought the whole place was flat if I am totally honest, our backing is usually a lot better than that but as a group of fans you kind of know the way your team is playing and it just didn’t spark us into any realistic hope and therefore resultant backing. I have to say (don’t get too upset) I thought your vocal support was even worse, even at 2-0 it was dead and I have to confess I am surprised, but I am sure you like us are better away than at home. A couple of additional items, we got put in a pub about 8 miles from the ground it was a Holiday Inn (or Premier Inn) with a pub next to it, the police escort was a joke made us wait there for 20 minutes before KO and then we just got shafted in traffic, ended up bailing out of the minibus on the duel-carriageway and climbing a banking up to path that went under and underpass of some sorts, this was a nightmare because somewhere along there my ticket dropped out of my pocket, anyway all other lads had gone in so what else could I do but retrace my steps…. And there it was laying on the path being trodden on by people ha ha anyway (this made me feel it was my night, it wasnt). Walking back with ticket safely tucked away just as you get to the corner that is facing you (sure you guys know where I mean) a fight broke out, I am pretty sure these where Wednesday fans having a go (did anyone else see what sparked this), surprised me to be honest, I had a last smoke and went in, the rest is history. Anyway, good luck my new found Stokie friends, I wish you all the best for the season (unless we meet again in FA Cup) and look forward to seeing you lift the cup…. Up The Owls! Tony A lovely post mate, thanks for being so honest. Wish you all the very best of luck in getting promoted. Thought your fans were fantastic and deserved more to be honest. The gap between the leagues really showed last night, so hurry up and get yourselves promoted. Went to a few games at Hillsborough in the early ninetees and witnessed some fabulous football and support. Went to the game against the shit when you beat them. Even purchased an owls badge. Problem was I ended up going into the Yorkshire Grey still wearing it. Had about 30 or so BBC in there and we ended up upsetting them. Always hated the Blades, or pigs as you call them. All the best. Its strange who you talk to seems to be that fans of other teams will favour one of the Sheffield sides over the other, I think its because Sheffield is such a popular Uni place and people choose one to watch while they are away from home, personally I have always found the Pigs an awful team to watch and place to go, countless teams fans I know (and I am not talking about teams with a reputation) say they always get grief there from proper chavvy wannabe football factory sorts. I know all teams have fans like that but personally I prefer a beer a little banter and always like to see a neutrals view of Wednesdays performance its too easy to not see the woods for the trees when your biased to your own team if you know what I mean

Big surprise - we shot more than one goal yesterday We still don't shoot enough though. As utterly dominant as we were last night we still didn't manage more than 9 shots the whole match. Great result and a good performance, but still plenty to work on.

Their fans were the loudest I've heard down here for some time and when they were all bouncing it looked fucking mint. Fair play to em. Only for about 15/20 mins though. For most of the first half and the end of the 2nd they were as quiet as us.

Made me laugh since last night!
Radio 5 covered the Everton game on normal, Man City game on 5Live Extra via DAB (despite broadcasting the show from Stoke I understand!)
Channel 5's highlights was worse than a MOTD 2 minute review, and they talked about Sheff Weds after the game not Stoke
Sky Sports News have just had (former Stoke player) Danny Higginbotham and (former Stoke coach) Gerry Francis in the studio where they have talked about last nights action in the Capital One Cup, where they talked about...Man City and Everton, then promoted tonights game. Had Danny not mentioned Stoke in convesation I dont think they would of!
On the Channel 5 point I also have a quandry over Kelly Cates and whether you would or not - you cant look at her and not see Kenny in her face, how offputting is that!

Went to uni in Sheffield and I despise united. Ended up getting a ticket once to one of the Derbies. United won 3-2 but were 3-0 up at half time. Plus, Sean Bean is a twat.

Absolute joke no reply of affelay's goal. Just that Sheffield Wednesday were unlucky. Wtf!!!! We are the Premier League side...we won.....no story. The other "bigger" sides won by either a bigger margin or away from home where there was a potential for a greater upset. So, without a doubt, unless you are Stoke our result/ performance was of lesser interest to Channel 5 ( named after the number of its viewers). The unlucky Sheffield Wednesday angle comes from the fact that they caused interest by beating Arsenal, but caused a lack of interest by not turning up against us. Let's be honest, the non-story makes me happy and if we cause a non-story and win in the semi -final no one will be happier than me that our team are anonymous to anyone but us. They weren't unlucky, they were dreadful. Sheffield Wednesday fans should be fuming with the way their team played. No ambition, no desire to win, they let us win in 2nd gear without barely getting out of 1st themselves.

Yes I'm afraid it is a sad fact that S-0-T is a forgotten place. I've lived in North Wales, South Wales (twice), Birmingham, Teesside (twice), North Yorkshire (3 homes), worked in Co Durham as well and I'm afraid most people have heard the name and about pottery, but other than that they know nothing and are not interested. (Newcastle-u-L, where I was raised, is even more obscure and most people would never have heard of it if it wasn't on the M6 signs!)
The media measure consumer interest and respond accordingly as they rely on advertising. "Supporters" of ManU were reported to be well over 600 million a couple of years ago, so it follows where the media will give there attention. Interest in Stoke City is minimal outside of North Staffordshire although Stoke's success is re-awakening awareness. The media also like to have a local rivalry theme to generate interest such as United v City, WBA v Villa, etc.
Stoke's cause is not helped by the local population who are not as fanatical about football as some other areas. Once you step outside N Staffs you are in the drawing area of another major/historic club. I remember years ago it used to be said that 5,000 people travel from the Stoke area to watch ManU. In Co Durham, whilst there are very popular local clubs (Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor) there is huge fanatical following of Newcastle, Sunderland, and the Boro; this support of NE clubs stretches right down to N Yorks until you get into Leeds drawing area, and northwards to the Scottish boarder - a huge area. The local media recognise this interest and Newcastle/Sunderland will often be headline news on regional TV, whereas in the Midlands sport will only be dealt with at the end of the news.
We have to accept that being located between 2 major conurbations Stoke will be a backwater and only be of interest to the locals, like Norwich. The only thing that will change matters is sustained success by the club. When the club has generated a belief that Stoke can or will win competitions by doing it, then there will be a lot more interest and support. Villa may be having a hard time now, but if they have any success then the crowds come flooding back. When they were winning in the old 3rd Division they had more support than many top flight clubs.
