Their fans were brilliant for most of the game and a credit to the club hope to cross paths with them again soon and not in the championship. Yeah, get Wednesday and Derby promoted at the expense of Norwich and Sunderland would do me.

do you think Geoff should start this weekend? Instead of Adam? It's a tough one - if anyone else starts in that role you'd think it'd be Afellay. Think I might be inclined to keep Charlie in for now. Geoff's surely front of the queue if anything happens to Whelan though. I've been saying Afellay for weeks but it's the wrong game to try it. We know Geoff can do a better defensive job for a tough game like Citeh?

Morning Stokies,
First of all, congratulations absolutely thoroughly deserved your win.
In terms of the game, I thought it was men against boys, the one thing we have done all season is press the opposition affording them as little time to settle and in my opinion this is the something every lower league team needs to superior opposition. Tonight we looked very poor all over the park. At the back we seemed to panic and we certainly missed the creativity of Forestieri and the energy of Bannan. Hooper looks well off the pace up front and I think your defence simply ‘dealt’ with any threat carried by Joao.
You will see from my previous posts that I travel to most games home (given) and away but last night was on a par with the performance at Charlton which I kindly put down to tiredness but having only played two games after the international break I can’t blame that on last night. We didn’t expect to win, I knew you guys would be a totally different proposition to Newcastle and Arsenal, given the stage of the competition and relative priorities, but what I did expect was for the lads to leave nothing on the pitch, give it 100%, close down, press high up the pitch, defend from the front and try and make the most of any chance that comes as a result of that, we didn’t.
So, I don’t think based on that performance that any team will have had an easier more comfortable ride into the semi-finals of any cup competition than last night, but you can only beat what’s in front of you and as I have said without a doubt Stoke 110% deserved the result.
Atmosphere, thought the whole place was flat if I am totally honest, our backing is usually a lot better than that but as a group of fans you kind of know the way your team is playing and it just didn’t spark us into any realistic hope and therefore resultant backing. I have to say (don’t get too upset) I thought your vocal support was even worse, even at 2-0 it was dead and I have to confess I am surprised, but I am sure you like us are better away than at home.
A couple of additional items, we got put in a pub about 8 miles from the ground it was a Holiday Inn (or Premier Inn) with a pub next to it, the police escort was a joke made us wait there for 20 minutes before KO and then we just got shafted in traffic, ended up bailing out of the minibus on the duel-carriageway and climbing a banking up to path that went under and underpass of some sorts, this was a nightmare because somewhere along there my ticket dropped out of my pocket, anyway all other lads had gone in so what else could I do but retrace my steps…. And there it was laying on the path being trodden on by people ha ha anyway (this made me feel it was my night, it wasnt). Walking back with ticket safely tucked away just as you get to the corner that is facing you (sure you guys know where I mean) a fight broke out, I am pretty sure these where Wednesday fans having a go (did anyone else see what sparked this), surprised me to be honest, I had a last smoke and went in, the rest is history.
Anyway, good luck my new found Stokie friends, I wish you all the best for the season (unless we meet again in FA Cup) and look forward to seeing you lift the cup….
Up The Owls!

Took my boy last night first game in a while, atmosphere not great but it was won at a stroll and you could sense it. Wednesday fans were great but they 4500+. stokies at the away leg of the semi with that following would make more noise I am sure.

Afellay is brilliant at keeping the ball and Geoff is decidedly hit and miss on that score. But I'd also keep Adam in because he can create and we're more likely to be given space to create on Saturday than we would against a Watford or Sunderland.

Thought McGugan at least tried to inject a bit of fizz when he came on.

I just worry that it'd be possibly a retrograde step to take him out when creativity is our biggest problem. That said, maybe the intelligence or Afellay or the engine of a Geoff or MVG would allow the others to create more.

It can be like that a lot at the Brit nowadays. Over the years, our squad/league positions have got better & our expectation levels have increased. When we lose to teams like Watford some 'fans' deem that unacceptable & we should easily beat them 4-0. Only when we play the likes of Chelsea, Man City or Arsenal that's when our famous atmosphere comes back! Your support was top notch last night. All the best for the rest of the season.

chiefdelilah, to be fair a number of them were forced, Westwood missing in goal (injured), Forestieri (cuptied), Bannan (injured), these are three major players for us (along with Tom Lees who went off injured), but they did leave out Pudil (came on for Lees) and McGugan, but what was strange was for formation, typically they will play a 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 (away) packing the midfield and using high energy to support the lone striker and it has worked well. We dont have a clue why McGugan cant get in the side, it seems the manager simply doesn't fancy him.
I would have gone
Wildsmith Pudil Lees Loovens Hunt Souguo McGugan Lee Lopez Wallace Joao
But look it happens we are a Championship side that made 16 signings in the summer, we are playing (I know you guys didnt see it) some good stuff, for the first time in a long time I am going to games feeling we can get a result, I genuinely feel we can scrape the playoffs this season, with the backing we have away from home and at Hillsborough it could make the difference but if not this year then next.

I guess as you have established yourself in the Premier you will attract more and more fans that have only ever known the likes of Chelsea, Man City etc visiting and look the Watford's of the world with disregard. As a fan that has seen Wednesday beat (comfortably) the Liverpools, Man Ure's etc and seen us above (in league standings) the likes of Chelsea, Man City I know football goes in circles, our time will come again for sure, but having dropped out of the Premier in 2000 (remember we were a founder team) I dont think many sides could have endured the terrible 15 years we have had and still get the support we do, we have been starved of anything yo-yoing between Championship and League 1, so our fans don't have the kind of appathy some of your new fans may have, our 'young un's' have only ever known crap and our 'old un's' remember the good times and tell the 'young un's' to keep the faith!

Its why Channel 5 doesn't do sport..they are shite at it. Crouches injury apart no punditry on the game except Wednesday had chances, whilst chapter and verse on Man City and Everton. Having an ex Hull Manager and ex Boro keeper as pundits pretty much gave the game away.

Good Wednesday post above. I suspect there was too much build up to the match for Wednesday after their triumphs beating Newcastle and Arsenal, resulting in the players freezing on the night.
Stoke put on what is now their customary cultured passing play, keeping the ball, but actually doing very little with it and should have created more and scored more. This seems to be the story this season so far. We started the season with a number of upsets and are now obsessed with keeping the ball and not letting the opposition score.
Good luck to Wednesday, hope they progress. Unfortunately whenever their club comes up to me I remember an FA Cup semi against Arsenal in the 70s we were winning comfortably and ended up giving Arsenal a draw.

Morning Stokies, mixed feelings this morning, should have nicked it in the end at Blackburn we looked really strong in last 20 minutes but just didnt fall for us! Anyway looking forward to tomorrows game, starting at 12:30, get the beer coat sorted in time for legendry freezing I am expecting, see Shawcross misses the game, this an issue for you guys? Carlos had a dream @blackburn You're fucking shit you're fucking shit you're fucking shit you're fucking shit you're fucking shit Thanks for that Will, can't say I agree with it but we are all entitled to an opinion and I am sure yours is well thought out and took a while for you to articulate it so succinctly.

Yep. Add Cameron to that who was very much in the conversation for motm and Wollscheid who was very much the leader of the central defensive partnership and won everything. Cameron was good then mate? Missed last night unfortunately. Anyone do enough to force themselves into the team against Man City?

Carlos..... The Jury is out, has to be we have only play 18 or so games, but to be fair he has us playing some nice stuff, a new Chairman is the real driver though his family own TUF, an organisation that owns many brands including John West and pretty much have the Tuna market cornered!!! He is determined to be up by next season and seems to claim money is know object, doesn't sit well with me has a feeling that it could end in tears at some stage down the line, I like to see a blend of youth and good signings, but only Wildesmith from the ranks was in the squad last night (pretty sure) so who knows, but he seems like a decent coach and I love the new song so may keep him just for that!

I thought he was really good mate, I had him as man of the match behind Afellay. Hard to say about Saturday - you'd hope Diouf starts if he's able to - Walters looks shagged. If there's a spot up for grabs it's probably Charlie's, but I think there's an argument for keeping him in as well.

Went to a few games at Hillsborough in the early ninetees and witnessed some fabulous football and support. Went to the game against the shit when you beat them. Even purchased an owls badge. Problem was I ended up going into the Yorkshire Grey still wearing it. Had about 30 or so BBC in there and we ended up upsetting them. Always hated the Blades, or pigs as you call them. All the best.
