I'm not being disrespectful to Wednesday but I think we'll beat then quite convincingly in this one. The gap between the two teams is just too wide, in terms of quality and strength. For the record, Wednesday are a team that I used to watch occasionally when I lived in Loxley. Watched them in their great years just after they'd won the cup and got promoted to the prem. Watched them in Europe and seem to remember Kaiserslauten visit. Wednesday were a great team then and how David Hurst never really had a fair chance for England, I'll never know. I don't take it as disrespect mate...Its a fair enough comment. I think its one of the harder draws for us...apart from maybe Man City away... There are about 5 clubs that can win owt..Have been for a long time..The league cup though..is the one trophy that is often up for grabs for the teams below what is seen as the elite. Maybe the F.A cup too now..which is flabbergastin' for any fan of a certain age. Stoke City are going to be safe enough in the Prem..not going down..maybe not making top 4?..no disrespect..So the cups are going to be an attainable objective...thats what bothers me about the tie..I would have been just as worried about the Potters at Hillsborough...I wouldn't expect Stoke City to plough up here with the lack of respect Arsenal showed the other night......neither from the team nor the fans. Arsenal tripped up with a mixture of kids with no experience..and Pro's with no knowledge of the place..and probably hardly bothered... Hillsborough for the last ..nigh on 2 decades has only been a bearpit for our own players...unrealistic expectation...a lack of patience...(although patience ..to be fair, is waiting 20 minutes for a bus and not 15 years for a f@king football team) Hillsborough full...with no real expectation of winning the game is different..as Arsenal found out. The team you saw in the early 90's..is probably the best team we have had since the 60's...This current team is looking like the makings of the second best... You lads have your memories of George...Easham (sp)..We have the memories of John Sheridan...Lets hope one of us has those memories rekindled mate... If its your mob...I'll simply hold me hands up..come on here with congrats and say "we were concentrating on promotion..."lol

No way will we beat Sheff Wed convincingly NO WAY, it will be a close tie and I think we'll get through by the skin of our teeth, believe me!

Morning Stokies, another 3 points on Saturday, performance wasn't the best quite a scrappy first half and then we took more control in the second without creating too many clear cut chances (other than the goal I can only think of a Joao effort that he should have done better with) it was a little "after the lord mayors show" but just the kind of fixture that would have given us nothing in previous seasons. We dug in got through it and got the 1-0 win so all in all cant complain and thats now 10 unbeaten in all competitions. A point away at Newcastle and a clean sheet seems like a decent return, I didn't catch any football over the weekend so cant comment on the performance. Anyway looks like both sides keep plugging away en-route to the big one!

Struggling to create chances despite our decent front 4. Arnautovic seems tired. Bojan is still not up to speed after his lengthy layoff due to injury. Shaqiri has shown glimpses here and there but still hasn't adapted yet. Butland has been our best player this season which says something I suppose.

Anyway looks like both sides keep plugging away en-route to the big one! Hi mate I know it's a long time away but what team do you think you will put out? Anyone cuptied or injured longterm etc? Hi Stoke2004, its difficult to say to be honest, the manager has put together a really big squad and has rotated virtually every game, in the two cup wins (Newcastle and Arsenal) he has played the reserve keeper, who to be fair has kept clean sheets on both occasions although only really getting called on maybe the once in either game. Wednesday play at a very high tempo and its probably as goos as I have seen us without the ball for a long time, they give the opposition very little time to settle. Assuming he sticks with the reserve keeper I would like to see the following defence: Wildesmith (Westwood for me is best keeper in Champ may opt for him fingers crossed) Pudil (good fullback signed from Watford when they got promoted) Lees (only ever present) Loovens (We have Turner on loan from Norwich but has been injured last couple of weeks) Hunt (good attacking fullback, really bombs on) The midfield is a real lottery as we have so many options but I suspect being away from home at superior opposition he will go 4-5-1 so think it will likely be Wallace (solid, good a set peices and been one of the main assist guys) Lee (probably for me the most consistent performer box-to-box, good footballing brain) Semedo (solid bit crab like to be fair but gices 100% and there just to spoil, win the tackles and pass on to more creative players) Bannan (signed on a 1 year from Palace been a revelation, just runs for ever and has quality, like Lee box-to-box) Helan (really fast but defensive positioning lets him down at times pace gets him out of trouble quite often) To be fair this leaves out the following any of which would typically be in first 11: Matias ( ) Sougou ( ) McGugan ( ) Lopez (signed from Celta Vigo, good player poor mans David Silva, not seen enough as hes been injured) Sam Hutchinson (scored the last goal v Arsenal, really good footballer, stats show he has made more interceptions in Champ than any other play, often lucky to stay on the pitch) Up front I expect him to play: Adthe Nuhiu, 6'6" awkward good feet pops up with a goal now and again but can be frustrating, doesn't really have the quality but can create space for others This leaves: Lucas Joao ( ), this guys is good, only 21 but has everything, think he will be snapped up at some stage Gary Hooper (Just signed on loan from Norwich, proven goalscorer at Champ level and not cup-tied) Surgiu Bus (signed back end of last season, not really given too much of a chance and pushed down the pecking order by Hoopers arrival) Fernando Forestieri ( ) Class, just great 5 in 9 starts all over the place. I expect the main three strikers to be on the bench at least for this game............. Who knows, but good footballers throughout squad to be fair.

I've said it since the first game of the season - give it time. Arnie was fantastic until our League Cup win over Chelsea, and has looked tired after that. Yesterday he seemed to be nearly recovered, and by next week I expect him to be his usual self. Let's not forget that he scored our winner yesterday. Bojan seems to be getting better with each game (though pretty slowly). In the first half yesterday he lacked creativity and was quite poor, but in the second half he seemed to have got into the game a bit more and was showing some glimpses of pre-injury Bojan. Shaqiri was fantastic yesterday, and we had all seen it coming. Let's hope he keeps showing the class he has, but I'm sure he will. We do have a striker problem, with Walters and Diouf both lacking a clear goal-scoring talent at the moment. I think we'll have to stick with them until January, and if their form doesn't pick up we'll be looking to invest. Let's not forget how well Whelan, Johnson, Wollscheid and Pieters have all played. Adam, Cameron and Shawcross have all added something to the team too, it's just about giving it time still. Of course Butland has been our best player, but he really has been fantastic and we'll be lucky if we can hang on to him in the summer. Again, we've been saying it since the first game but it's still true when we're not even a third of the way into the season: give it time.

Real tough game, but we have the quality and the experience, they'll bring a full contingent and it's up to us to match them in the stands. Owlzat aside they're a good set of supporters in my experience so all in all looking like a great cup tie!

How can you say Diouf lacks a goal scoring talent, I would bet he has the best, or close to, goals per minute ratio in the Premier League, he has only played a handful of games and has 3 goals

Their performance in the last round shows if we take any liberties we will going the same way as arsenal. They will bring great support and give it everything. Should be a great game :-)

We won't take them as lightly as Arsenal did and we'll pay them more respect than Arsenal did too. They'll come with a massive following who will give them tremendous support. But that said, I think we'll be up for it as it probably means more to us than it did to Arsenal as it's one of very few genuinely realistic chances we have to get our hands on some silverware. We should, and probably will, beat them by a couple of goals and march on towards Wembley. UTMP
