The vast majority of passes in any game are successful, even when a team plays badly.

I was on the back row of block 27 and every time me and my brother joined in with songs coming from the boothen/sentinel corner it felt like we were the only ones in our area going for it. I go on the back row because I like standing and instead of clapping I was banging on my chair because it makes more sound so gets the messages of appreciation and encouragement across to the players better. The bloke to my right who was sitting down passively-aggressively expressed annoyance towards the end of the first half so I stopped doing it because I'm empathetic and reasonable, but jesus fucking christ, it's the first time I've ever been to a match and felt self-conscious about showing passion. I was half-cut at the time so not massively bothered but thinking about it today it's really depressing.

A nice summary Tony. I wish I could berate you for your comments on our atmosphere but unfortunately you are spot on! The away atmospheres are still good but it's rare to get a good home one now. Hopefully the semi-final will be one of those rare occurrences... If Wednesday had been playing at home to a team from a league lower, the atmosphere from the home fans would have been exactly the same...Thats football ..always has been. It didn't mask the disappointment on the way home, there are ways of losing games..even to higher league opposition, the way Wednesday went about it, is not one of my favourite ways of doing it. Its easy to fall back on the old adage of..Well.."we can concentrate on the league" but thats cold comfort after being beaten easily in what was Wednesdays biggest game for a long time. I was also at Blackburn Saturday, Wednesday showed more fight in that game than we did last night..We showed nowt last night bar the supporters being able to put on a show. Thats been the story for nigh on 2 decades at Hillsborough...and although the plaudits for the fans gives me a warm feeling, sometimes the failure of the team to live up to it simply gets on me t*ts. Last night I thought Wednesday, once again, failed to live up to it, believe me, I'm not saying I expected us to win, but I thought the team would at least have a real go...they didn't. Wednesday have averaged 23'000 in the third division...watching abject crap..All hail the fans...nigh on 40'000 at home to Wycombe to watch 'em climb outta the sh*tehole..all hail the fans...Its tat... Cos in todays football the fans are peripheral...gimme 10'000 and win summatt FFS! Theres a limit to the bouncing up and down you can do..and theres a limit to how many times you can smile in adversity and accept the pats on the back for being a loyal idiot. This is the best team Wednesday have had for a fair few years...Last night didn't show it, but Owls fans know it. I can't see us going up this year, but I can see the signs that we are slowly getting there.. Like someone once said..."I can cope with despair..Its the hope that gets you"..Last night was a prime example Fantastic post.

I blame the ticket office. Surely it wouldn't be so hard to make sure that OAPs are not allowed to sit together. They should be dispersed evenly around the stadium where they won't be noticed (so much). never said it was the oaps,and was not picking on them neither.i was on about the whole ground support it was tosh. Why mention them then?

Accurate passes, wayward passes, throw ins, free kicks, possession etc, who cares ? The only stat that counts is the full time score. And that's the thread snuffed out face down in a pillow.

This whole thing with our diminishing atmosphere is really obvious though. The problem is there's no large congregation of like-minded individuals. That's why away supporters almost always outsing home support, the away support is a congregation of like-minded vocal supporters. If go to a home game and would like to sit down and be more of a passive-observer you have plenty of options around the ground. Let's say 10/15% of our supporters are singers who want to stand up and sing for most of the match. If that 10/15% was all in one place then you'd essentially have one part of the ground creating an "away" atmosphere but because that 10/15% are spread around the place then many of them are going to feel like dicks if they stand up to sing and can only hear their own horrible voice, or get dirty looks from the person behind etc. Our main end is apparently the boothen but unlike in the old days it has a wide demographic of vocal/less vocal supporters. The only solution for this issue (for all clubs) is the return of standing areas but as it stands that is merely a pipe dream.
Also, in the first few seasons when our atmosphere was amazing the issue I've just highlighted was masked by the fact that the circumstances led to almost every supporter becoming a vocal supporter. Things have now settled down and we're basically only great on rare occasions at home now. Our average atmosphere is poor and our median is diabolical.

Accurate passes, wayward passes, throw ins, free kicks, possession etc, who cares ? The only stat that counts is the full time score. Agreed, just look at the Villa vs. Watford game last Saturday. Villa enjoyed 65.1% of the possession. Villa made 494 passes to Watford's 263 and of those passes from Villa 74.3% were in the opposition's half. Villa made 31 crosses throughout the game. Those stats would look like they reflect a game of sheer domination from Villa but it was far from the case, anyone who watched that can tell you Watford were deservedly the winners. Stats are over-rated.As you quite likely stated the full time score is the only thing that matters. It's been annoying me that people on the oatcake keep moaning that we haven't scored enough goals but we've shut teams out when we're ahead so we've picked up the 3 points. 1-0 is, quite obviously, better then 4-4 at the end of the day. The stats don't reflect performances, the table does.

Game was so easy it was embarressing at times Stoke Did not even need to get into second gear, let alone third so, neither did the crowd Absoluteyl no issue here - humbly suggest thinking of something else to moan about I can't accept this excuse because the 1/4-final against Man Utd two years ago produced a poor atmosphere too and we lost that match against decent opposition. If I remember correctly the only time we made any noise in that match was when the freak hail-storm threatened to destroy the roof.

10 seconds or so On Midlands (or should that be Birmingham) Today. If it had been their beloved Villa there'd have just been time for Shefali to mention her warm front.

I loved how Bardo was shaking MVG off like "Let me run this one out mate, doesn't happen often!"

Bardsley certainly put his foot through that. Cracking strike. He ought to be taking shooting practice this week. Fuck all this trying to put effects on it and put yr laces through it. {If indeed they've got laces and not slip ons.}

Who'd have put money on Phil Bardsley being our first right-back to score this season?

As they cant write / slag us off as relegation fodder these days they can ignore us as nothing more than a midtable team. As others have said if we win they talk about the losers ! And the proof of the pudding exists in the simple fact that Chelsea's current woes have excited more media interest than Leicester's ascendancy.

Relaxed and good viewing. It worked really well. I like your enthusiasm and you certainly know what you're talking about. Keep on keeping on.
