The dome at Spanish City is still there but the fair is long gone, they knocked it down and built a primary school on the waste ground. That bit of WB is enjoying a mini renaissance, council is spending a few bob doing it up. Amusements, fish and chip shops and so on are still all going strong. Ditto the theatre a few hundred yards away. If you live in Werrington (which is where I grew up) your family will know my mum Jean who worked in the Coop on Washerwall Lane for 40 years! I left in 89. But still drink in The Windmill when I go back

Thank you for the great response (keep them coming). We are traveling Friday and having two nights in Whitley Bay. I am told only 30 mins on the metro from the city centre. I live in Whitley Bay pal, well officially Cullercoats but my house straddles the WB/Cullercoats border. Ignore OwdeStokie, The Fire Station is rancid, the best pub in WB is The Rockcliffe Arms, my local and 2 mins from the Metro. Given you have 2 nights you might want to consider Tynemouth on the Friday night. Its a great village, loads of pubs and places to eat. The best curry house at the coast is the Shakira, which is very close to The Rockcliffe Arms. WB was once a proper night out but its dead now, people go to town or Tynemouth. On the Saturday morning try a walk along the sea front and get a fry up at the Surf Café, Allards or The Priory Café. Also, if there are a few of you then it is cheaper to get taxis to and from town. Its a fixed fare of £13.50, the firm is East Coast, number is 0191 253 3777 Don't get a black cab from Newcastle to WB, its about £30, phone East Coast, 100% reliable. As many have said, you cant go wrong in the North East, fab place which is why I never moved back after Uni 26 years ago! Dave I haven't been in either for sometime as I'm back in Stoke. However I will be in the Kings in the Sluice before the game and might pop into the Rockcliffe before getting on the Metro. Thanks for the up-date

Have just got tickets for the game and going to make a week end of it. Any advice on pubs near to the ground with fellow Stokies ? GeordieD is bob on with his up-date. If you do go by East Coast Taxis they are good and reliable (both ways) especially if you are sharing the taxi fare which would make it good value

Will you be in there? If yes what time from and until? I might have a couple in The Rockcliffe from 11 until 1230 and then I'll dive on the Metro to meet pals in the town. Got three different mates coming up to make a weekend of it with other lads from Stoke! Hopefully get them all in the same pub otherwise I'll be spinning plates ....

Up for half term and the game.
Went to Whitley bay today and wasn't too impressed but remembered a post on here recommending tynemouth. Great recommendation and well worth a trip if coming up for the weekend. We only got to the head of steam but there are more than 10 tidy looking pubs in a 5 minute circle.
Also been to bridge tavern in town. Bit more expensive than a lot of the other pubs but again a cracking selection and a few interesting bar snacks.
Really liking what we've seen so far!

Let's not lose all that we gained last night.
What 11 would you choose. Tough call between Jon and Shaq for me but I'd go with
Jack
Glen Ryan Wolli Eric
Charlie Whelo
Arni Bojan Shaq
Diouf

Walters has to play up front after last night. Can't see Diouf being anywhere near 100% after the shift he put in and he'd still be an excellent option off the bench.

Charlie Ryan and Diouf must be doubts they will be fucked after last night. 120 mins each! Ryan and Charlie seemed to cope well but Diouf was seizing up after 90 then got switched to the Glen Johnson role! Heroic effort from him but I think he will be rested Saturday.
Butland, Johnson, Ryan, Wolly, Pieters, Whelan, Adam, Shaq, Bojan, Arnie, SJW

Diouf ran himself into the ground last night, he'll be probably still be breathing out of his arse come Sat'day.... Gotta start with Walters up front I think!!! Speaking of breathing out of their arse, thought both Shawcross and Adam did extremely well last night to last the entire 120 minutes.... Shawcross after just coming back from injury, and Adam.......well, mainly cuz he doesn't look like he can last 90 minutes most of the time, nevermind 120 minutes...and then to step up for the first peno full of confidence!!! A special mention has to go to Begovic as well for still being shit at saving peno's!!!

Going to be a tough one call, the lads last night gave it 100% but, as mentioned there will be some tired legs, I also think Mame wont be fit enough, nor Bojan as he failed a fitness test last night before the match. I think Sparky will rest Shawx as he played a full 120 mins so hell be fooked. Charlie was breathing through his arse last night, So I'll go for... Butland Johnson Wolly Wilson Pieters Whelan Van Ginkel Afellay Shaq- would love to see the lad in a 10 role see what he can do here. Arnie Walters I'll try be positive, but you just don't know what Stoke are going to turn up, anyway I'll go for 1-0 Stoke COYP

How long is Cameron out for? Would probably rather have him than Wollie. If fit Diouf should start, hes got 3 days now. Walters is a must. And for the role behind the striker either Bojan or Shaqiri, not sure which.

If Eddie Izzard can run 11 marathons in 11 days, or whatever it was he did, then I'm sure an athlete like Diouf can recover from 2hrs of football with 4 days of rest, massages and whirlpools... :-)
Immense performance from him last night, both physically and mentally, after what he's been through...

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards Agree, potentially another "physical game" A key task for the week will be looking after Ryan and aiming to start him again. (Another) international break 14th November, good for some re recovery, more games for those away on International duty of course

And for the role behind the striker either Bojan or Shaqiri, not sure which. I'm a big fan of Cameron, but there's no way Wollie should be dropped after last nights performance. He's earned another start. If Cameron is fit, I would be tempted to give Ryan some recovery time after playing 120 minutes last night. I'm assuming Mama might also need an extra day or two after his herculean efforts, so Walters up top for me, with Johnson, Eric and Shaq all back to start.
