I know it sounds harsh but I don't go to the footy to mourn, I go to enjoy myself. The New Year obituaries are both appropriate and poignant. Harsh and unfeeling I know but I've done my last applause - it's getting out of hand.

When Stoke have minutes applause for someone during a game why dont they announce it beforehand then people would know what they are clapping for instead of half the stadium wondering why they are doing it

When Stoke have minutes applause for someone during a game why dont they announce it beforehand then people would know what they are clapping for instead of half the stadium wondering why they are doing it Because it is not an 'official' club tribute - it is organised by fans. If there were official channels to request a minutes clap there would be at least 5 per match, certainly - how would the club decide who got a tribute and who didn't?

The new year one needs to be improved by having the players on the centre circle joining in just before kick-off. Perhaps then it would have enough importance to stem the tide of having them at every game. What a stupid idea. You're honestly suggesting that the Arsenal/Everton/Newcastle/whoever the fuck we're playing team should stand there & clap for all the Stoke fans who've died that year? Or is it just our team you want to clap? Inwhich case what are the opposition doing? Kicking the ball around in the other half to keep warm? Or do they have to stay in the tunnel or dressing room? Why not tell them not bother making the trip to the Britannia at all & instead we'll just get everyone in Stoke-on-Trent to pack out the ground & clap for everyone who's died that year. ..... And we somehow have the nerve to take the piss out of Liverpool for this kind of shit. It's a pity you lack the imagination to see how it could be improved. It seems a shame to do it infront of a half filled stadium and it would seem that a lot of people are unaware of the existing tribute as it stands anyway - not surprising with the existing tannoy system. Perhaps the club should just hand out free beer so that it can be chucked in the air instead.

The New Year roll call of departed Stokies is I think a great tribute and is enough. I am not keen on the trend for applause at set minutes in games throughout the season and think the suggestion of appluase at the 12th minute of every game is frankly a daft idea even by the standards of this forum.

It's not hard just to clap for a minute is it Statistically speaking, given 30,000 fans at the stadium and an average life expectancy of 80yrs, about 6 people will die each and every week!
It's not just a minute for one person is it?

It's not hard to clap for 6 minutes mate So in the 3 weeks between the Bournemouth and Watford matches - that will be 18 minutes!! Are all of those minutes different? How will we remember them all? Shall we just clap all the way through Half-Time?

Shall we just clap all the way through Half-Time? The first game of the season would be great; just clap for 90 minutes for all of the poor souls who perished in June, July & August.
Grieving is a private matter and the current trend of clapping every time someone rolls a 7 is diluting the true meaning of it.
