Had a good game but still got absolutely rinsed 2-3 times. Don't see him as anything more than cover long term. I can see it plain as day now, Connor Wickham, to use your phrase, "absolutely rinsing" Shawcross as he cut through our defence unchallenged to score for Sunderland last season. Along the way, for good measure, he also "absolutely rinsed" Marc Muniesa. Rudy Getstede is a far better player than Connor Wickham and Wooly stood up to him admirably. When Wooly got beat, it was invariably when he'd been pulled out wide to cover the missing full back. I can recall one instance first half right in front of us. Like Shawcross found early last season with his disappearing full-back, a big centre half isn't really at his best when he's being pulled into the full back position and is facing up, square on, against a little nippy winger. Wolschied was excellent yesterday, cover or otherwise, and to say anything other is grossly unfair on the lad who has come into the team in a difficult period and more than almost anyone else, has helped to steady a rocking ship. Let's just give credit where it's due and hope that it continues so the need to rush Ryan back becomes less of a priority. He might not look totally convincing, he might run funny, his arms might do funny things when he passes the ball, but overall, despite heavy criticism from all quarters, he's not done as badly as many would have us believe and our record with him in the team is actually pretty damn good. Someone called Radio Stoke yesterday and in criticising Wooly used the fact that Aguero had "turned him inside out" last season down at the Brit. I laughed so much at the sheer stupidity of that example, on a day when Aguero scored 5 goals in 20 minutes, that I nearly crashed the car! One of the best centre forwards in the world got the better of Wooly and that is the example to use of how poor he is. Some people are seemingly too stupid for words! :-)

He had a good game. I thought Gestede was shit, he's great in the air but has got nothing else, yet he still totally lost Wollscheid and got himself in on goal. Vertout just casually wandered round him as well.
Wollscheid had a good game but I'm not going to pretend that didn't happen Dave and a good team will punish us for that kind of thing. Comparing that to Ryan, who that hardly ever happens to, is just bizarre.

Comparing that to Ryan, who that hardly ever happens to, is just bizarre. Not really. It's a simple example, that sprung immediately to mind about how a shit player can get the better of another one, in this case a far better one, on any given occasion. There is always some stick to beat the unpopular players with...this time it's the quality of the opposition. As for Gestede, I thought he was a real handful. A shining light in a team who simply aren't good enough to bring the best out of him. He's a very decent player though. Cameron and Wooly were excellent yesterday as were Pieters and Johnson. They barely caused us a problem at all, we stopped crosses coming into the box and when they did come, we defended them well. Butland barely had a save to make and the one he had to make, when Wooly got rinsed (to use your words not mine) was very comfortable and one you would expect any keeper to make. 10 of our 11 starters were excellent yesterday and one of them was pretty toss and played like a lost little boy. I haven't seen one thread about the golden boy!

It isn't about a stick to beat anyone with. I said he had a good game. But I call things as I see them and there were a couple of red flags that he got away with this time.
Cameron was outstanding and man of the match but might on another day have given a penalty away.
I don't see why it's 'unfair' to mention that stuff. I'd mention it if it was Ryan or whoever.

Geoff had a really good game but still had a tendency to overplay it at times when a twat down field was called for. Only a small gripe though in an otherwise very good display from him.

Boys, boys, boys. Calm down. Wooly had a good solid game overall but made a couple of mistakes which fortunately didn't result in a goal (he's no Marc Wilson after all ) The only one I thought was way off the pace yesterday was Bojan and he very nearly did cost us a goal He let Amavi (i think) waltz past him to cross for 'sheriffs badge head' Richards to miss a sitter. I don't see the level of criticism aimed at him (and rightly so because he just had an off day) that gets leveled at other players for their odd mistakes.

Another game, another clean sheet, another win, another good performance for the big man!

Come on! Wolshied has played the last 4 games, won 4 conceded 1 goal. Though not the best defender in the world, he is steady and we defend well with him in the side. We still are not scoring, potential to play a lot better and we will play a lot better, Bojan still only playing at 60%, Shaqirinot found his feet yet. Top eight very possible this season.
