Hey Malcolm, what about this for an idea?
It seems to me that the problem lies between getting noticed and doing something illegal/against the rules. A banner outside the game will get about as much publicity as a fan making a fart in the concourse. However, I have never seen a minutes silence or applause for some cause (fan/player remembrance etc) go unmentioned on worldwide TV along with the reason for the silence/applause. I believe the most pressure (apart from boycotting games) will beachieved by the following. At each game where tickets are over X amount (say 25 quid - it's not 20 but a reasonable amount), both sets of fans have a minute of BOOING at the minute of the actual price. E.G. for Villa it would be at the 41st minute. Make sure it is well covered on a national level. It is something the fans can do, that does not cost/inconvenience them, the press coverage will allow the players to know they are not booing them, the clubs can do nothing to stop the event, and, if it continues week after week, a very strong message is being sent. In addition, if a club's tickets are below the set amount, both sets of fans have a minutes applause at the designated minute that represents the price (E.G. 20th minute if tickets are 20 quid), thereby rewarding the clubs who are doing the right thing. Again the key is in making sure the media understand why this is happening.
While it may be too late to coordinate for this weekend, I think this could be a very effective campaign and be something the fans actually enjoy doing.

Personally, I think that's great idea, Boks, and I'll feed it into the mix for future action. As you say, too late I think for this weekend, but certainly worth considering.

I reckon it could still work this weekend, Malcolm. There's plenty including myself who will have read this thread and who will be there on Saturday. I seem to recall using singing "41 quid you're taking the piss" at VP without any organisation at all.

The thing is, it is not just a Stoke thing but needs to be coordinated nationally. Worst outcome is 20% of the stokies at villa do it and 5% of other games. Far better if it is done across all 20 clubs and done with 70% or greater participation so the media sit up and take notice. It could actually become a gimmick for the media to see what minute and is it Applause or Boos.

I wish everyone luck with whatever protest those at the game come up with.
My own personal protest is not to go. For a club to charge £40+ if they are selling out their ground is one thing(supply and demand) but for Villa to charge £41 when they will have thousands of empty seats it is taking the piss.
Something needs to change.

In fact a chorus or two of "41 quid you're taking the piss" would be highly appropriate on the weekend of action.

I've seen that villa park are restricting the size of the protest banners which can be used for this weekends game- anyone have any idea what size can be used?

Buy tickets paying with 1 penny coins only. That will definitely attract attention!
Seriously - wishing you success with your protest. Prices are probably too high in English football. Though, you have lots of high class players in PL, many very good stadiums (like Britannia!). Try to find the balance (reasonable prices).
Ukraine can't be an example here (we have much cheaper prices, but much lower salaries), but I just want to say that I've got my ticket for Dynamo Kyiv - Chelsea (Champions League match) for 90 UAH (3 pounds). It's the cheapest category, but the most expensive tickets are still nothing comparing to your prices (about 600 UAH = 18 pounds).

Its a real tough on in Tory Britain to change football , the only thing that would really work are empty seats and as fans we won't go there

I've seen that villa park are restricting the size of the protest banners which can be used for this weekends game- anyone have any idea what size can be used? They have now agreed that the banner can be displayed throughout the game. I don't know about size but the FSF banner says "stoke city fans say twenty's plenty" We are meeting the Villa fans with their banner at 2.15 outside the Holt End for a press photo shoot. We need stokies there obviously.

There is banner of Stoke fans against high prices ( can't remember the exact wording) and a Villa one and we will meet to display them together outside the ground before the game. I will post further details when known but obviously the more stokies there, the better - motivated by the £41 charged for this game. Villa have banned the banners from being displayed inside the ground Malcolm, whilst it's a noble cause you are fighting, unless you can seriously hit clubs where it hurts in their pockets nothing will change. A total boycot of games where terraces are empty over a few weekends would make sky etc think about televising of games without any noise or atmosphere. As I said in a previous post it's futile expecting clubs to allow banners in grounds on this subject. It just ain't going to happen. The greed of clubs holds no bounds IMO. You can't even listen to games on radio without paying something for the privilege unless we are lucky enough to be on R5L or talksport. The BBC local radio sold out to their respective city clubs for live coverage years ago. This include DAB on the Internet. It IS going to happen. Villa are now allowing the banner to be displayed throughout the game. Oh ye of little faith

I have just been invited to go on the sofa for BBC Breakfast tommorrow - further proof if it were needed of the value of this protest in publicity terms. There is simply no way that would have happened if we had just issued a press release about high prices. All we need now is as many stokies as possible behind the banner at 2.15 !
