We're already providing "support" to the Syrian army versus ISIS in Syria, reaching so far as to allow RAF pilots to bomb targets in US planes. The House of Commons voted against military action 285 to 272. Cameron doesn't actually need to respect the wishes of the Commons but has said that he will. Opponents of another all out war point to the fact that Western wars in the Middle East contributed massively to the recruitment and arming of ISIS. These people are fleeing that war. They aren't ISIS. In fact, a handful of people in this country are leaving it all behind to fight for ISIS. A handful, mind. We have absolutely no idea of who they are or what their intentions are. No idea at all. Are you suggesting that ISIS are playing by the rules and won't use this opportunity to exploit it? Yep. best to think the worst, it's a lot easier than actually showing any understanding or feeling compassion on the subject. They aren't children dying, they are potential terrorists thwarted in their attempt to poison the British way of life. Every one of them want my benefits, send out the gunships. Common sense at last, great post etc etc,,

Oh, and where our security, and specifically my family security is concerned I will think the worse, until proved otherwise.

Oh, and where our security, my family security's concerned I will think the worse, until proved otherwise. Of course you take precautions, but that doesn't entail tarring all with the same brush. From the experience of history, forced migrants are on the whole are extremely grateful for their refuge, i would imagine that the good will oust the bad, self policing is in the interests of us all. I understand your fears though, no doubt we will have a price to pay for our compassion but i have absolutely no doubt that the price will be of a lower overall cost than it would be should we sit back and do nothing.

For those who aren't sure this is a humanitarian crisis. It is not "illegal immigration" The number of people on here who are ignorant or thick or simply racist enough to not know the difference beggars belief. Hang your disgusting heads in shame.

Like you .... You are once again proving yourself to an absolute idiot .....Ignorant and thick .! There is illegal immigration going on in great abundance along with many other breaches of international law but you simply haven't got the brains to appreciate the truth have you ? The only way this situation is going to improve is by stopping them from crossing . End of story .

It is both immigration and a humanitarian crisis. These people are passing by safe countries to get to certain countries That is fact. Why are these people heading as west as they can? Why are they not claiming asylum in Italy I can only imagine UK is seen as better than Turkey, the safe Middle East countries, Spain, Portugal, etc.

It's easy to look at people on this thread and claim racism, hang heads etc The realism is it is a whole host of issues. EU propaganda, anti EU propganda, asylum, immigration the list is endless a sad state of affairs Britain has always took in asylum seekers. Now we are being targeted as if we do nothing. There are quite a few bad apples using this to get to this country for other reasons and risking their own and family safety by doing so. If that father had stayed safely in Turkey his son would still be alive.

If i'm wrong so be it. Seriously then, where do i get to view these pictures? I'm sure you didn't make it up and i am keen to view the images that have formed your opinion to such an extent that you can talk with so much authority on the subject. They really must have been quite convincing.

Syria is a terrible place to be there is no doubt about that and you cannot blame anyone for trying to escape from that terror. That is why the refugee camps are full and there is so much squalor inside them.
More needs to be done.
But I wonder how many of the migrants/refugees/asylum seekers flooding into Greece/Hungary/Austria and into Germany are genuinely desperate and how many just want a better life?
It bothers me that there are so many young men and very few women (especially older women). TV crews are deliberately filming families & children to make the public more sympathetic but 95% of these people are young men.
And they are being watched by many others in Africa & The Middle East to see what happens.
And Germany has opened it's doors which has just encouraged the fittest and strongest and most motivated to get there but NOT necessarily those that need most help.

Dunno about anyone else but to me that was just a picture of some people on boats. I think you meant to say that you have "read reports of such occurrences" rather than "you have seen pictures" that have convinced you........still that wouldn't have reinforced your point so well would it.

Do you know any senior management at immigration ? I do. Billy knows everything Mumf, however he appears to be very wound up today , his language is appalling at times not at all what one would expect from such a tolerant left wing type, there is none so blind than those who can not see (or will not see), never mind by the time he is able to tell the wood from the trees it will be too late for him bless.

You might want to point out that Abdul Basit Haroun, whose advice the article is based on, is a government advisor...to the Libyan Government and that his comments are actually applicable to North African countries which IS has infiltrated and the migrants coming across the Mediterranean Sea - NOT the current Syrian refugee crisis. Furthermore, it should also be noted that "experts have cautioned that it is very difficult to verify or assess such claims." www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-32770390
