I've met Garth on the odd occasion down in London near where I live, through a mutual acquaintance who is a close friend of his and also comes from Stoke, he hasn't forgotten his roots in Stoke and always speaks warmly of the club. I've never heard him say a bad word about the city or the club, though if he reads this message board he just might change his tune.
How we incessantly have to put down one of our own who has been successful as a footballer, in the media, first as a DJ (from memory) and then in football, as well as being the first black chairman of the PFA is beyond me. As for his accent it's a BBC London - Stoke accent, probably because when he first worked in the media the BBC didn't do regional accents, the rest is about living in London for 30 odd years, as I have, your accent tends to change.
He's not forgotten from where he has come from, just moved to another city, another place, as many footballer's do and made a living for himself and settled down here. He's done rather well for himself outside playing and not too many footballers do that, perhaps they don't need to anymore.
It's so easy to parody a person you've never met but the vitriol that some people spout on here about him is beyond banter. If you don't like him, that's fine but does he deserve the stick he gets for leaving Stoke, a change in accent (not posh or trying to sound post at all) or for rambling on a bit as a pundit.
I just remember him as a fine striker who always gave his best for Stoke whilst he was here.

I didn't expect anything!! I didn't expect people to agree with me! Can we move on now?, I never for one minute believed or expected everyone to agree with what I said, I was just raising a point about how I didn't agree with how he had written his piece thats all. Im not sure why Im even being asked this now. It was a piece of an article I didn't agree with in my opinion…. I think you're deluded. Wow, you've come to that conclusion whilst behind your keyboard huh?. nice one. Your thoughts would be taken on board if you actually knew me….but hey, you don't so move on to someone else thats bothered mate because Im not. Thankyou and good night.

But rest assured there'll be another half a dozen such threads at least before May. I was lucky enough to see Garth grace the Red and White stripes in late 70s.
