You can make things up but sadly you cannot alter the chronology of this thread. Fucking obsessed fits the bill nicely. OK I'll let you apologise when you've sobered up. I mentioned Burley and only Burley as a classic of the snubbed genre. The fanatics took it up a notch. Nope. Someone mentioned the Bristol snub which was a fact. That triggered your glorification gene that then brought on your amnesia that at first wiped the binary season. Partial memory was restored on the subject when you remembered it but tried to put it in s different time zone

Momo responded and now you're accusing him of turning the thread into a homage to Pulis. Fuck me sideways

I had missed the fact two people had mentioned the Bristol snub in fairness. Dave actually made a joke of it. But fair do's. The Pulis Witchfinder General can rightly claim extreme provocation and a right to smite the heathens with reminders of the glorious leaders start to finish days of glory. You however can go and fuck yourself sideway.

Great shout. And to think Sorro had to come here on trial after that fell through. Tone's first choices for GK and CB that season were Scott Carson and Anthony Gardner. Both (thankfully) rejected us and we got Tommy and Abdy instead!

Peter Osgood Sat behind him in the butler street stand think we beat sourhampton 4-1 . Hudson played and osgood saw his mate and potential employer on fire he had a sheepskin coat on why the butler street God only knows If he had signed no doubt we would have won the league that year is a widely held view and been former champions now . As it was he went on to sign for Southampton and snubbed us It must have been a lookalike, because Osgood played for Southampton that day. Wrong game but Osgood was at the home game before sat in the Butler Street Stand Block B to be absolutely precise

Wasn't 83-year-old Chesterfield hotshot David Reeves linked heavily to us under Megson (or maybe Thordarson)? Not sure if he ever particularly came close to signing, but remember it being a strong rumour at the time.

Oh god I know it's a silly thought, but there's an actual small part of me sitting here believing that a potential player being within hearing distance of BenjaminBiscuit for 90 minutes might have cost us a title.

I was under the impression that Francis wanted to sign and was about to but we bottled it at the last minute & failed to meet his agreed wage demands much to TP's annoyance. Not sure if its a case of Francis snubbed us or we messed the deal around and just got gazumped.

Anyone ever been genuinely upset by a player snubbing us? I have to admit at the time Darren Bent really got on my tits but I think the one who really bothered me at the time was Rob Hulse as I actually thought we were trying to turn the corner and bring in some quality. Obviously Remy as well and also I remember Chris Sedgwick choosing to go to PNE instead of us saying they were more ambitious and I think Clint Hill had a swipe at him if I remember right?? Bloody hell how far we've come!! Remember that well re Sedgewick. He couldn't have been more wrong could he lol :-)

Wayne Thomas turned down a contract here to go play for bloody Burnley. He even had the chance to go Norwich who were a promotion favourite but claimed Cotterill had swung he deal for him.

How can you be sure it wasn't Osgood's lookalike that played for Southampton? It was the Osgood interest that led to Richie kneeling down to head the ball in. Osgood had gone into the press saying Richie was past it and could only score headers. I wasn't at that match but have a memory of Osgood criticising John Ritchie who went on to score the hat trick, left foot, right foot then rounded their keeper only to stop the ball on the line, drop to his knees and nod it over the line.
Might be a bit of embellishment to an urban myth, but if true, that's a cool way to answer your critics.
I seem to think Waddo wanted Hudson and Osgood, but I think it was the injuries that stopped Stoke City winning the league in 1975, not the fact Osgood went to Saints. Weren't Pejic, Greenhoff and Ritchie injured on the run in? 4 broken bones in the team?

Is Carson still at Wigan? That went well! Joking aside, with Carson in our side we would have sailed desperately close to the wind that first year and by close to the wind I mean gone down! The irony of that is that Carson went to Tony Mowbray's Smethwick based remake of the 1970 Brazil team.
I was in the posh corporate seats when Ricardo Fuller barged past his marker onto a loose ball and fired in a shot that went horribly under Carson's body. Carson was beaten again early in the second half by the power and venom of James Beattie's finish inside the box. Both goals made the keeper look poor.
"Long ball, you should have played long ball" ringing around the Hawthorns.
Carson was relegated with the Baggies.
FAB Scott.

Still don't get what he said he wrong tbh! He didn't want to join us, so what? he didn't want to join a club that, at the time, a lot of Stoke fans on here were saying played shit, dour, boring football. then when a player notices this so doesn't want to come here those same fans decide he's automatically an arsehole apparently because everyone should want to play for us. only on The Oatcake bayern!

I think the most significant one since I have been a supporter is Peter Osgood The missing piece in the jigsaw after Big John broke his leg I still dream about Shilton Marsh Pejic Mahoney Smith Dodd Robertson Greenhoff Osgood Hudson Salmons Dream Team! and Big John’s response to the Osgood saga was a hatrick against Southampton, the third being him stopping the ball on the line, dropping on his knees and heading the ball into the net. His encore was a 3-0 celebratory gesture.

My gutted response was not getting Thordarsson.... I was genuinely excited at seeing him linking up with Bjarni as our Icelandic experiment was looking quite positive.

Funny how the Rob Hulse snub really sticks in the memory, even after everything that has happened since.
