For fucks sake do we need a separate thread on this really? How thick are some bastard's skulls that they haven't figured out that there's no correlation between winning friendlies and your league positions.

Was that our starting 11? Have we progressed to that that 8th place stage? Have we replaced Nzonzi? No So the answer to my question is no then, thanks for clearing that up, in regards to N'Zonzi, we don't know how Van will do so possibly, no one knows, personally I think 9th/8th is the best we'll ever do, and I'm happy with that, the league table is second to my enjoyment of a football match.

Why did he start on the wing? Mind boggling. Stephen Ireland was probably the worst player on the pitch. It is only a friendly but the way he turned backwards EVERY TIME, couldn't trap a ball, couldn't pass, it was awful. We need to ship out a couple of people and he would be my first choice. He's not a right winger and never has been. You can't expect anything from him out there.

We've only got one other right back and no one seems to want him so I don't know who you're wanting. after seeing what johnson can do, i'd play cam or bards there, i know its a friendly and results mean nowt but performaces mean everything and johnson was very poor for me as were others, he's prob not match fit yet after just 2 games and a longish lay off due to injuries, he's not ready to start games in the prem yet Fitness means a lot, he has non, there's still time to sort that, judging him on this game is ridiculous.

Just got in. What was the score ?? We lost 2-1 Cologne were the better team but it was 1-1 with just a few minutes to go No one injured Totally agree, we were playing a very strong side with an experimental line up. Hughes will have tried things today that didn't work and that's the whole point of friendlies. Not often you get an entire back 4 have a 'mare all at the same time but at least it was only a friendly.

StokeFanNath, are you 9 years old or have you just not watched much football in your life to know how it actually works in REALITY?

the REALISTIC part is based on facts mate Lukaku cost 28mill, everton finished below us how, therefore is that ANY kind of valid argument???? what form of realism are you using where the facts don't count exactly??? laughable, simply laughable! So you think we are bigger than Everton

Just read the last few posts. Bayern, Ronaldo should have gone as well, for the sly little kick back at Wilko, but guess what. No one noticed it! Retaliation is a sending off, isn't it?

I really thought we looked shaky all over! None of our players looked comfortable on the ball, and we hardly created anything from open play! I know Arnie, Charlie and Mame will give us more creativity, but this performance was scary! What will be our back four next Sunday? I'm really not sure who Hughes will pick for the back four any longer! Cameron has by far been our best defender in the friendlies and deserves to play! Johnson hasn't played enough, Pieters doesn't look to be back to full fitness either, and What about Shawcross??
.................Butland............ Cameron...Shawcross?...Muniesa...Wilson? ............MVG.......Whelan........ Walters.........Adam............Arnie ................Diouf................

It's just frustrating that many of the players seemingly couldn't be arsed. Some of the fringe players had a great chance to stake their claim for starting births (e.g. Ireland) and they just didn't turn up. As has been alluded to above though, playing Ireland on the wing is tantamount to footballing suicide, it definitely contributed to his poor performance.
I've no doubt we'll perform better tomorrow.
A pre-season tournament may mean nothing, but it certainly does to those fans that have travelled out there.
It would have been nice to win the tournament.
If we want to keep getting invited to such tournaments (not sure if we actually do) then we will have to put up better performances than that.

you got to respect your elders dear poster above - as for myself - as much as I was excited by what I saw at Wrexham - that today showed our other side
a simple conclusion - there are some completely dreadful players now inhabiting our squad clearly not good enough for the premier league
at best we get rid - at worst farm them out on loan - quickly !
Im Thinking Sidewwll and Texierea - both completely fucking awful - no other words
and Glen J - here's a tip - get a fucking tackle in son or, your dead fucking meat in front of your own Stoke fans

Pity the poor fuckers who paid hundreds of £'s to go an watch that, lets hope there's a big improvement in the next match. Gouranga. I'd put money on the "poor fuckers" that are out there not giving a flying fuck about the result, just like you shouldn't either.

Yeh had great service didn't he today. Oh I know the passing was awful all over the pitch, but from what I saw of him I was not impressed with his movement - he never tried anything off the shoulder of the defender, and when he showed a neat bit of skill to beat a defender he was so slow he looked like he was running in treacle, the defender easily got back at him. I just don't know where he is going to fit in. If he plays up front it will be like the bad old days with teams pressing us high up the pitch because we don't have a forward who can get in behind. I think we are in dire need of a couple of big signings in midfield and on the wing. We really need to spend some money Your second point will be sorted when we don't have Ireland on the wing don't forget our midfield today had only one player that is likely to start a decent amount of games and he looked good for the most part. Money means nothing as long as the right players are signed.

So you think we are bigger than Everton I think you are really missing the point badly here.... Size of club or money spent has very limited impact on league position unless you are talking about Chelsea/Man City levels of spend.
