Best season ever supporting Stoke, went every game home and away in both League and Cups. Most of the squad seem to have disappeared though,ie John Butler.Anyone know what they are upto nowadays? Great times and great memories. Set the all time club unbeaten record, wonder if the club will try to gather the squad for a 25th Anniversary celebration. yeh great season still got the vid in the loft safest place

One thing about Lou is that he always talked sense. A great time to be a Stoke fan. Loved those years as much as any

Has anyone got a link to the video on you tube for this game?? Can't find it anywhere but I know it's definitely on there somewhere. I remember the current ticket office manager Josh Whittaker introducing the video, he used to work for the media team at the time.

A few of us Wolverhampton stokies would be going all over the place. Brilliant days. Some cracking football and goals too. Steino was just a magician in front of goal and he could run, take on a man.

Blackpool away, 3-1, open ended stand, pissing down with rain, went top and stayed there! Brilliant day out. If memory serves me correctly, Rooster Russel scored a belter. It was pissing down with rain and a few hundred Stokies from the big open end behind the goal piled on the pitch and dived into the covered stand. Looked like it was going to kick off until everyone realized the covered stand was already full of Stoke. Just an amazing time to follow Stoke, massive awY followings just completely taking the piss no matter where we were playing.

I heard Foxy's had a bit of trouble recently. Macari clearly didn't like or rate foxy. We didn't know at the time but a significant aspect of Lou's opening games at Stoke was the absence of our stalwart goalkeeper Peter Fox. We all knew an Australian keeper had been acquired on loan from Everton, but the idea of dropping Foxy was unthinkable. Rumours surrounded the decision but the reason for Foxy's omission has never been made public. There was some indignance over the decision. To some Stokies it seemed the new gaffer had charged in and immediately undermined a club legend. It was actually very smart management. Reputation counted for nothing, and there was one boss... and that was Lou Macari. Change was afoot.

It was all about money Fox was due a large sum of money if he reached 500 games He was past his best & had ongoing back problems whether it was Macari's decision or he was 'encouraged' to make that decision I'm not sure.

Blackpool away, 3-1, open ended stand, pissing down with rain, went top and stayed there! Ha, started in the open end, but like everyone else stood on there i ran across the corner of the pitch to the paddock after a few mins, possibly after a goal? My abiding memory of that game is that so many people jumped over the paddock soaking wet that there was steam rising up off all the sodden stokies as the started to dry out. It was pretty bloody cramped in there as i recall!

Just off the top of my head. Lee Sandford is now in stocks and shares. Kevin Russell is back at the club in some capacity I think... Steve Foley has been in and out of prison. Vince Overson is at Bury coaching the kids Dave Regis works for Charlton in their Academy. Johnny Butler is a courier over Wigan way. Bertie is or has been scaffolding i think... Think Bertie was running a pallet business. Graham Shaw is a solicitor. He should begin proceedings against whoever advised him to grow that moustache. Gerry McMahon is a postman back in Ireland. Last seen shithousing out of a challenge with a Yorkshire terrier.* * Yes, I know he wasn't about in 1992-93.

I remember that rumour well. Where was it confirmed? In the pub! He played 499 games for Stoke. See that's the thing - I heard it was 400 league games, a total he passed in Macari's second season. I also recall Macari being asked on Radio Stoke if appearance bonuses were the reason why a club legend was not being selected. His answer was "That's bullocks" or words to that effect.

West Brom away,approx.7 and a half thousand Stokies in away end witnessing a 2-1 Potters victory. Singing '10 points clear' at the Burslem troids after winning 2-0 at Vile Park. On the pitch at The Vic with daughter after clinching promotion against Plymouth. Having an ace mental at Bolton when they scored because it meant they went above our no mark neighbours. Probably lots I've forgotten.Excellent season.

In 34 years of supporting Stoke this is still my favourite season. So many happy memories, some great games when we were steamrollering teams too. Vince Overson is at Bury coaching the kids Saw overson last season, he's coaching Carlisle youth now, had a chat with him and he was saying his time at Stoke was his favourite part of his playing career.

This really was a special season, weren't we considered a big fish in that league? I mean 24,000 at home in that league was unheard of. It was a case of how many we would win by at home. Home and away, week in week out.
Bruce Grobbelaar in goal at Vale, shittin mesen when he started dribbling out. Birmingham away, another mental that will NEVER be repeated. The songs we sung were so much better as well. Lou smacking Jim Gannon on the pitch, proper passion. The back of the boothen where the singing was forking constant.
It's just not the same at the Britannia ????

When we finally lost a home game v Blackpool it was dead strange, almost surreal. Although the best player on the pitch scored the winmer.

I loved Graham Shaw's goal against Reading that season. Charged down the keeper and bounced off his body into the net in front of a delighted Boothen End.

John Butler was class...... bet we wouldn't recognise the ones who left the club and never came back really, butler., Foley, never heard a great deal after they left. Not in last 10-15year any way.
Remind me who were our back up players were? Dave Kevan Ronnie?

We used five keepers that year, newsteadst3, and Ronnie played the most (29 matches)! I suppose with Foghorn going in goal for a little bit you could say it was six keepers!! Squad players included Harbey, Ware and Shaw. The team was pretty consistent though: Keeper (predominantly Fox/Sinclair) Butler Overson Cranson Sandford Rooster Foley Beeston/Ware Gleghorn Regis Stein

To my way of thinking, almost every member of the main starting 11 was upper-championship (in new money) level, so it's hardly surprising we steam-rollered most teams that year.
I don't think Beeston's role has ever really received the acknowledgement it should. He missed the first few matches through injury, and we were really slow out of the blocks. His return coincided with the start of the unbeaten run, then he got injured again towards the end of the season when we started to stutter a bit.
Seemed to be one of those players that when he played well, Stoke played well. And he was exceptional that season.
