Again, we're not talking about replacing anybody, we're talking about replacing the player who has held the defence together for the last four years. Marc Wilson is no Ryan Shawcross. Cameron and Wollscheid combined barely add up to half a Ryan Shawcross. I'd feel much happier if we had someone to call on who was vaguely in his stratosphere. I don't see at least two of the centre half options we have left as especially capable and there are question marks over at least one of the other two as well. mate if it comes down to opinion i am 100% in agreement with you. we fully need a presence such as ryan holding the back 4 together, however, in hughes' 2 years thus far he has not shown any interest in bringing in a cb similar to the style and quality of ryan. instead he chose muniesa, pieters, Bardsley, wollscheid and johnson. he would prefer a selection of 3 rb over a ryan like backup. so why now is he going to pursue it? I am convinced he will use Cameron and wollscheid depending on who is upfront for the other team until January. I'm not talking about what Hughes is doing though, I'm talking about what we need. Is there not an argument that we haven't signed a Ryan type because we've had Ryan (and Ryan's quality on the ball has come on leaps and bounds under Hughes)?

How are you feeling about the season Rob? Have you got a preview knocking about? There's one in this weekend's Oatcake mate (along with all the usual good stuff - Trousers, Bunny, Miserable Merv and Asmir Begovic's guide to Premier League benches, among other things). I also did this for the Sentnull www.stokesentinel.co.uk/big-challenges-facing-Mark-Hughes-2015-16/story-27559729-detail/story.html Basically I'm on the fence. I think the players we've brought in are interesting and potentially very good additions, but I'm worried that we've lost the spine of the team and still need at least one more in and if I was being pessimistic another couple on top of that. Think we'll be well clear of relegation trouble but that it might be tough to match the last couple of seasons.

Reckon that Geoff will step up and do a grand job. Does this make me ITK?

"There is no timescale at present on how long I am likely to be out for, but one thing is absolutely certain, I will be in the very best hands when I am rehabilitating and trying to get myself back fitter and stronger than before"

Heard a grizzly rumour today that he could be out for the season..... We certainly need to leave him out of our 25 until the next transfer window.. John terry recovered and arguably is back to his best

He's had a back problem for six or seven years!
I didn't think he could go any further up in my estimation.
Legend.

Six or seven years - that must go right back to those growth spurts that caused him trouble?
Incredible that he's been a virtual ever present since then.
