Said it before but I'd have Huth and Muniesa battling it out to be Ryan's partner. Clearly Hughes disagrees with me (and seemingly most Stoke fans).
Hopefully Wollschied turns out to be equally good, but different, and the direct comparison with the outgoing Huth doesn't affect whether the fans get behind him or not.

Sad day. An absolute star for us, who gave his all and more in every game he played. Very best wishes to him at Leicester (except against us). Really impressed with his twitter post, nothing but good to say about us. A true pro, who obviously enjoyed playing for Stoke, as much as we enjoyed having him here. Bon voyage.

A good, solid centre back must now be a priority in the window.

A proper Stoke DEFENDER in the mould of Smith & Bloor and a credit to the club off the pitch, it wont be quite the same without him
Good Luck Robert a true hero of our return to the top division

Only decision of Hughes that I have disagreed with. As much as he was valued as a player alongside Shawcross for me he was worth keeping as a great positive servant who could step into Ryan's shoes. If Ryan gets injured (his back is dodgy), say first game, I don't fancy a back centre partnership of 2 out of 3 from Wolly, Wilson , or Muniesa . None of those are strong enough but I would accept one of them alongside Huthy. If we had £8m for him ,ok, but not for £2-3m
Thanks Robert!

Where as Huth deserve every bit of praise he gets from fans, you have to admit we have moved on from his style. ! This is massively overplayed in my view. Why would you ever want to 'move on' from tough as teak, heart on sleeve defending, with a burning desire to win your personal one on one battles and an equal desire to help your mates, if they're not winning there's. Are we really saying that a player schooled at Chelsea and in the German youth set up can't handle a ball from the goalkeeper and pass it to a team mate? 100% agree. Huth has hardly played for Hughes and when he has, he's either been carry an injury or recovering from one. This thing about him not suiting the style is just a load of bollocks. Letting him go is a major mistake. Replacing him with woolsheid is an even bigger one.

Are we really saying that a player schooled at Chelsea and in the German youth set up can't handle a ball from the goalkeeper and pass it to a team mate? No I agree, I'm not saying we should move on from those attributes you have mentioned. Though I think Shawcross and even Muniesa are rugged defenders like that, without being too in your face. I feel Huth's game completely revolved around being bully, a brilliant style in its own right but yes, I do think he would struggle to provide the quality of passing from the back that Shawcross and Muniesa showed last season, particularly the latter. So yes, I do think we have moved on from his style in that sense. He might be half his size but Muniesa relishes a personal battle just as much as Huth. What I should have mentioned in my original post is that Wolschiedd would not be in my starting 11 over Muniesa.

Gutted. What a legend this man is. Fantastic for us and genuinely wish him all the best. As the seasons go by we will inevitably lose our stalwarts. Rory, ric, sorro, Huth. These players epitomised our rise back to the top table. A part of 'that' Stoke City has died this close season. We've lost Wilko, Sorro and Huth and we stand to lose Beggo too. I don't class N'zonzi in the stalwart category but add him to the mix and its shaping up to be a big summer of change. Yes football moves on, but i just tinged with a bit of sadness tonight. Those days when we went up were fantastic. Her's to the future and a new generation of great players for us.
All the best Huthy. And thanks Big Rob.
