Can anyone honestly dance better than Chas Smash? The bloke has me transfixed to this day! Genius. This is when Madness were red hot.

Can anyone honestly dance better than Chas Smash? The bloke has me transfixed to this day! Genius. This is when Madness were red hot. I used to love Madness. I saw that at the University of Kent in 1979 when their debut album One step beyond was out. It featured night boat to Cairo. I used to dance like Chas Smash, although I'd probably have a coronary trying it now. I was so cool in my tonic suit, button down shirt, pork pie hat and ox blood loafers. There was a fucking great punch up there between a load of mods and skin heads. It was excellent, but the place was trashed.

This moved it on a little... Shit version, I'm sure I remember one where they do actually smash things up. Disappointing.

This moved it on a little... Shit version, I'm sure I remember one where they do actually smash things up. Disappointing. The next song after this was the chaotic one called "I Just Cant be Happy Today". It all started when a candleabra fell off the Captain's organ and I was never, ever the same again. Couldn't actually bring myself to post it as it represents a genuinely pivotal and emotional moment in my life. I was different after seeing it.

Saw her perform that song in the `70s at the Viccy Hall , she was incredible. I had never heard of her at that point. She was the support act to Supertramp. Happy Days

Happy Days Eddy, I saw her in Nottingham at about the same time. As you say , incredible. I can still picture the moment I first saw her on Whistle Test.

A few of you may remember and appreciate a little known band called the Smiths.
Their frontman was called Morrissey.
In 1973 he watched this "Mock Rock" and discovered he had an interest in music and that life was worth living after all.
