In 2 lots. Maybe more. I've forgotten. Ribs and Balls is on Odd Couple somewhere FWIW

So many iconic performances... oh to go back in time and watch all this again for the first time. As mentioned before, SAHB, Montrose, that fabulous Meatloaf performance, Patti Smith, Freebird, not to mention Wild Willy Barrett throwing his guitar away in disgust at his lunatic cohort John Ottway.... far too many to mention. This remains one of my lasting memories of the show and of two giants of the rock world, sadly no longer with us

Willy Barrett and John Otway "played" the Wheatsheaf one time. That was chaotic.

Though OGWT was way before my time {of being allowed to stay up on a school night.}

This was the moment that the OGWT died. Heard the theory the other night, sounds plausible.
Terrible outfit.

I agree though, that they are a bit out of place on that show, and I noticed that Van Morrison was appearing on the next episode - I always thought he was a bit Radio Two for my liking and equally out of place.

Whoa! Hang about now. Have a look at Gloria by Them on the trinity thread and tell me Van's Radio 2! <smiley> He's a stand up curmudgeon to boot that I'm proud to be modelling my retired persona on. "Astral Weeks" should be in anyone's top 5 albums, though it can take about 7 listens to assimilate in one's brainpiece. His post 76 stuff.... meh... fair enough.

Hmmm... I suppose my last sentence supports your point somewhat. I like to have a good rant now and again though to check I'm still alive.

Lovely stat last night saying that after this performance on OGWT the record company spent the following 10 days transferring their press to produce only Focus vinyl

Remember hearing an interview with Bob Harris on the radio and he was asked how the show got it’s name. Harris said that he once interviewed Carole King and she said that during the period that she was co- writing songs with Gerry Goffin, at the end of the week they gathered together four or five old men who worked in the same building. King and Goffin would them perform each new song once and if the old men with grey hair could whistle the chorus back after one hearing, then King and Goffin knew they had written a hit tune. This Friday afternoon session became know as “ The Old Grey Whistle Test”
At least that was Bob Hariss’s story.

Confirmed on last night's show although it was pointed out that the music on the OGWT was the very opposite sort of music to a hit factory.
