Talk Sport saying there are 2 separate investigations. One by the Swiss on the back of documents received on 18th November and one by the FBI as US banks were used to launder the money. FIFA are saying they were aware of the Swiss one but not the US one, though the timing 2 days before their vote wasn't known. I heard it the other way round. US instigated by FIFA and supplied with documents; Swiss investigation into Qatar and Russua bids which led to a raid at the offices. That onewill become the more important as it isn't orchestrated by FIFA.

That onewill become the more important as it isn't orchestrated by FIFA. According to the FIFA website We understand that today’s actions by the Swiss Federal Office of Justice on behalf of the US authorities and the Swiss Office of the Attorney General (initiated by FIFA through the submission of the file on the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup bidding process) relate to different matters. And The second instance follows FIFA’s initiative of presenting the file on the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup™ bidding process to the Swiss Office of the Attorney General in November 2014.At the end of the day who cares as long as this corrupt organisation is brought to book.

Regarding Blatter:
It's not uncommon in the United States for white collar crime investigations to take a bottom-up approach. Serious charges leveled against mid-level operatives who are then encouraged to act as witnesses against the more powerful in exchange for lighter sentences. I'm sure this isn't unique, but I'm not too bothered that Blatter has not yet been included. There's a decent chance he is the ultimate target.

Vyacheslav Koloskov, a former longstanding Fifa vice-president from Russia, tells BBC Russian he did not witnessed any corruption schemes during his time in the Fifa.
Mr Koloskov says: "When I worked in Fifa nobody has been arrested or suspended, so there was no corruption, but I'm out of work in the organisation for six years and am no longer a member of the Fifa executive committee. I don't know how strong a blow it will be for Fifa, we have to wait for Blatter's comments."
OK, so because no one was arrested or suspended it therefore follows that there was no corruption. Hmmm.... An argument further weakened as it comes from a Russian vice president of FIFA at the time time Russia won 2018.
Best get dirt on those turds floating on the top off the seespit and see if they will go whistleblower on the rest of the scum.

If the FA had any balls they'd at least not go to Qatar and maybe not Russia. Those places are hardly going to be fun for anyone going there, the bids were clearly rigged and they should lobby for an alternative World Cup somewhere else and leave anyone that wants to compete in Russia or Qatar to it. Probably the best way of getting rid a Blatter also. The problem is our FA are probably just as bad and don't really operate based on moral principles either.

I can't see Russia being cancelled, things are too far down the line. Qatar on the other hand is a destination that most of world football does not want to go to...

This is great and not a moment too soon. US Federal prisons are not nice places (so I am told!), The prison in Leavenworth, Kansas was built during the Civil War and has not seen much upgrading Maybe they'll reopen Alcatraz. Nice contrast with a 5-star hotel in Zurich.

There's no way that Blatter would allow the release of documents if he knew his name was mentioned. It will have been set up to let the authorities chase down others whilst he walks away unscathed. I only hope that the officials that were arrested all agree to hang Blatter out to dry to avoid long prison sentences. Wouldn't put it past him to agree to testify in exchange for immunity from prosecution.

UEFA should now take a lead. And a bold one.
Announce it is withdrawing from FIFA with the intention of forming a new world governing body.
FIFA should be killed. It is corrupt to the core.

From the BBC TV news at 1pm; a US official trusted by FIFA has 'gone over' to the FBI and has been using a listening device in a key ring during meetings. This is part of the FBI's evidence. BBC TV news also saying this is only the start!!

Nothing new here then, F.I.F.A. are nothing short of a joke. If the English Premier League were as corrupt and inept as F.I.F.A. the sponsors would be removing their association immediately, which leads to the question: Why The Fuck Are We Still Involved In F.I.F.A.? and the re-election of TWATTER BLATTER goes on regardless. Not even an invasion by The Borg would stop Blatter getting another term as the head of all things bent and dubious

Do we think Platini is squeaky clean? Wasn't there an issue with PSG and his son being an agent and FFP rules being relaxed. It's all relative. UEFA has its faults, but FIFA IS corrupt to the core. It should be closed down and something new created. UEFA is the only organisation with the clout no credibility to make it happen. FIFA has to die.

The FBI will supina Michael Garcia , his report will go into evidence and be made public It may well do, but I doubt it will be as explosive as many people think. Garcia was chosen by Blatter as someone who could be trusted to produce a report saying the "right" things (ie - the report Blatter wants). Garcia's subsequent protestations after the summary was released ring hollow - he was fully aware of the FBI investigation and covering his own back. It's been known for a while now that Chuck Blazer had been assisting the FBI investigation to avoid prosecution himself. Private Eye magazine has had numerous articles on this over the years.

BLATTER STATEMENT
"This is a difficult time for football, the fans and for FIFA as an organisation. We understand the disappointment that many have expressed and I know that the events of today will impact the way in which many people view us.
"As unfortunate as these events are, it should be clear that we welcome the actions and the investigations by the US and Swiss authorities and believe that it will help to reinforce measures that FIFA has already taken to root out any wrongdoing in football.
"While there will be many who are frustrated with the pace of change, I would like to stress the actions that we have taken and will continue to take. In fact, today's action by the Swiss Office of the Attorney General was set in motion when we submitted a dossier to the Swiss authorities late last year.
"Let me be clear: such misconduct has no place in football and we will ensure that those who engage in it are put out of the game. Following the events of today, the independent Ethics Committee - which is in the midst of its own proceedings regarding the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups – took swift action to provisionally ban those individuals named by the authorities from any football-related activities at the national and international level."
