I'm afraid I lost interest in Sabbath after SBS, Purple after the one with Woman from Tokyo, and Zeppelin post Physical Graffiti. How about Montrose "Rock the Nation", Edgar Broughton, Johnny Winter, The Pink Fairies or Budgie. My first gig was Mott the Hoople at the Vic. Hall 1971 before Bowie "saved" them. They truly rocked!! They tore the place apart and remain one of the loudest bands I've heard. We used to get decent bands at the Vic then. Rory Gallagher, Free, Sabbath, Bowie, Chicken Shack, Procul Harum, Alex Harvey, Robin Trower. I could go on... but dreck like Ten Years After as well mind! There was the George Hotel in Burslem on a Sunday night, The Union Hartshill, and the Rose and Crown, Etruria as well as the Student Unions in Shelton and Keele. All regular gig venues for bands. Happy Days! Anyone here remember the Black Horse, Star and Gaiety Bar (ahem!) Hanley? UFO And this from the best Motorhead album in 30 years. Stunning LP, massive return to form from Lemmy.

UFO And this from the best Motorhead album in 30 years. Stunning LP, massive return to form from Lemmy. Thanks! Not my period though, as historians like to say. I'd retrenched to the sixties by then. Been there ever since! I could hear Motorhead at my house in Shelton when they played up at the Vale. Around 1982 maybe??

One of my most listened to bands recently, their first four albums were amazing from start to finish. Excellent. I agree with that. Massive at the time in U.S. but slightly less so here for some reason. Born on the Bayou is one of my favourites. The production on those albums is top notch as well as I recall. Sound like they were recorded yesterday. The 2 volume Chronicles CD's cover most bases.

That rocks as well. I'd forgotten it! I don't think this single bothered the charts here. Massive again in the US though.

That's cracking that! I'll have a better listen in the week, I've only got my phone just now. Steppenwolf did a terrible, terrible version of it. That chap further up can play a bit as well... for a big youth!

Dweezil does Frank proud with this version of Inca Roads.
And this is the best 30 minutes of music you'll ever have the pleasure of listening to...

A proper showman Rory was. No histrionics, just a brief mumbled introduction between songs and away. Mesmerising, even with just mandolin and a stamped foot he could hold the biggest crowd.
I'll give Dweezil a listen in the week!
Did a vehicle come from somewhere out there, just to land in the Andes, Was it round and did it have a motor, or was it something diff-er-ent... Wa Ha!

Rory was in a class of his own. I've always been lead to believe that someone once asked Jimi Hendrix how it felt to be the greatest ever guitar player, he replied "I don't know. You'll have to ask Rory Gallagher!" Dweezil does some brilliant versions of Frank's songs, most of them have people like Brock, Vai & Bozzio in them too! As for Frank lyrics, Christ, that could be a thread on it's own! I've always loved Cosmik Debris myself, though! And I'm going have to chuck this song in here, 'cos no internet thread of greatest ever songs would be complete without it...

Some cracking stuff here Etruriashades. I was unfamiliar with the Dirtbombs. I'll have a closer look now. The Grant Green is an eye opener for me. Can't stop playing it. I'll look that live album out!
