Having seen plenty of other wank threads about shit music I thought it was time to see who else out there actually likes proper music! ... We are of course talking about Black Sabbath, Deep Purple & Led Zeppelin. Youtube videos are welcome of your favourite songs (Studio or live!) Sabbath. Purple. Zeppelin.

I still hold fond memories of 'Nicole ' the winner of the 1982 Eurovision .....she was only 17 at the time and got 12 points off the Israelis . No small achievement when one considers who she was representing .

Like DP, Zep and Sabbath; Sabbath are my favs of the three though. Saw a decent band at weekend, BYTE. Did stuff like ACDC, ZZ Top, The Cult, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy. Actually they did a LOT of ACDC, weren't far off being a DC cover band, the amount they did! Still they played it well and the singer (who looked a fair bit older than the others) has got a cracking rock voice and did both Bon & Brian justice.

Actually prefered Sabbath with Dio coming for my liking of Rainbow. Couldn't get into Zeppelin, now matter how many times I listened to them they just didn't appeal to me. Currently listening to the new Whitesnake cd. A reworking of some of the tracks from Coverdale's time in Deep Purple. Not a bad effort overall

I'm afraid I lost interest in Sabbath after SBS, Purple after the one with Woman from Tokyo, and Zeppelin post Physical Graffiti.
How about Montrose "Rock the Nation", Edgar Broughton, Johnny Winter, The Pink Fairies or Budgie.
My first gig was Mott the Hoople at the Vic. Hall 1971 before Bowie "saved" them. They truly rocked!! They tore the place apart and remain one of the loudest bands I've heard.
We used to get decent bands at the Vic then. Rory Gallagher, Free, Sabbath, Bowie, Chicken Shack, Procul Harum, Alex Harvey, Robin Trower. I could go on... but dreck like Ten Years After as well mind! There was the George Hotel in Burslem on a Sunday night, The Union Hartshill, and the Rose and Crown, Etruria as well as the Student Unions in Shelton and Keele. All regular gig venues for bands. Happy Days!
Anyone here remember the Black Horse, Star and Gaiety Bar (ahem!) Hanley?

You have named some good bands afterwards , I loved Free ...And Budgie were marvelous .....I remember all those pubs in Hanley ....at least you did not mention the Antelope .

Deep Purple, I take your point. I lost interest though and got into Can, King Crimson and the like. I also started to rediscover stuff from the sixties I'd been too young to appreciate first time around. Zappa, Love, Blossom Toes, East of Eden, HP Lovecraft, Velvet Underground etc. Appropriate really as the sixties didn't really end in Stoke until about '75! The Gordon in Stoke, now the White Star, used have bands on as well and the Boat and Horses in 'castle was pretty nifty but no live music as I recall. Also the Cobweb Cafe in Shelton was pretty cool. There was a late night club along the lines of the Antelope further on towards Burslem from the 'Horse called the 141 Club. The property number I'd imagine...

Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher & Frank Zappa are three of my all-time favourites (Frank's son, Dweezil does a great job of keeping his old mans music alive too!) I went with Sabbath, Purple & Zeppelin, though so I could give the thread a catchy title

I think the album by Love - Forever Changes is a good start for anyone who wants to start to explore late sixties stuff. It's impressive and yet pretty much instantly appealing.
I still listen to this stuff nowadays and I'm still nowhere near to completing my CD collection.

... more instantly appealing than Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart at any rate. That still troubles me now. Must be a grower...

I went with Sabbath, Purple & Zeppelin, though so I could give the thread a catchy title I avoided opening it for ages! I thought it might just be a rabid rant against Christianity along the lines of some of the other "reasoned and fair" debates that regularly show up on here!
