It's incidents like this which prevent us getting more away tickets, other clubs just won't put up with it and Burnley is a fine example.

If this is related to us then it's time our support started policing itself and a few heads start getting cracked. I said exactly the same mate on a thread after the West Ham game the other week, some of the older lads need to sort these cnuts out once and for all.

The train they're referring to is the London Midland one that normally goes on to Crewe. I suppose there's absolutely no reason why it couldn't be Villa fans returning to a Midland station from Spurs that day or any number of London club supporters who live in Watford for instance. Seems odd that they know they were football supporters but not given the club? Don't think that was the London Midland train sheik we were on that return train and missed it i know as it cost us £66.60 from Euston to Stoke one way to get home. Although beer had been drunk so i may be wrong seem to remember that last one around 6.45 ish.

The 18.46 is the London Midland service, destination Crewe. Stoke is the penultimate stop. The report refers to a group of football fans "taking the train between London and Stoke". I interpreted that to mean that it was the fans not the train going to Stoke. Given that we were playing in London that day, I think we may be deceiving ourselves if we try to convince ourselves that this might not refer to Stoke City fans. Trainspotter's anorak on: Stoke is not the penultimate stop, London Midland trains also stop at Kidsgrove and Alsager. An anorak's competition here Most of them do indeed stop at Kidsgrove and Alasger, but for some reason the 18.46 doesn't and stoke is the penultimate stop ( I only know that because I looked it up before posting)

Its one thing after another when we go away and clubs as well as the police are becoming wise,so why have all the other clubs who I might add behave themselves, get a full allocation?

As someone who occasionally uses London Midland between Kidsgrove and Euston I am gobsmacked by that, I was under the impression that all those that go via Stoke (some go straight from Stafford to Crewe) also stopped at Kidsgrove and Alsager. Anyway hang the bastards who did this, or better still send them to Syria.

Unfortunately it was Stoke fans Has this been confirmed somewhere then? Seems like BTP are certain it was 05 May 2015 07:19 Were you on the same train as abusive football fans? – Nuneaton/Stoke Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) are investigating after a number of passengers travelling on a train between London and Stoke were verbally abused by a group of football fans. During the journey, on Saturday, 11 April, a number of families travelling with children on the 6.46pm London Euston to Stoke train were targeted with abusive and foul language by a group of men, prompting at least one family to get off the train early. PC Lee Garner, leading the investigation, explained: “A group of about twelve football fans boarded coach C and stood in the doorway area of the carriage. “The members of the group shouted abuse at a boy in a wheelchair who was travelling with his parents. “They also used foul language towards a woman travelling with her two daughters, prompting the family to leave the train early at Nuneaton as they were so scared for their safety. “It is completely unacceptable that anyone should be made to feel unsafe while they travel on the rail network, and BTP is determined to do everything in our power to identify those responsible.” The group stayed on the train beyond Nuneaton as the train made its way towards Stoke. It also stopped on its route at Milton Keynes, Northampton, Rugby, Nuneaton, Lichfield and Stafford. PC Garner said: “Everyone has a right to travel on trains without fear of intimidation or violence. If you were on this train or know any of the people who were involved, we want to hear from you.” Following a number of similar recent incidents, BTP last month hosted a successful football policing summit brought together authorities, campaign groups and train companies to look at the extent of the problem and discuss potential solutions, with a report to follow.

This seems to have become a bit of a thing in the last couple of seasons... maybe not to this extremity, but certainly groups of young Stoke fans acting rowdy and obnoxious, justifying it as "banter" or whatever. Seen it before on the trains, not an ounce of courtesy to people who are clearly intimidated by the presence of a group of "men" drinking, shouting, swearing... save it for in and around the stadium and the pubs and try to behave at least somewhat respectable in public places ffs... I agree with your comments, a recent development, but why? Not true football hooliganism but definitely bullying. I'm going to stick my neck out here with some amateur sociology, but I'm guessing that people are used to abusing people via social media. This behaviour is now manifesting itself beyond the keyboard to this nasty bullying, whereby these people identify it as ' banter'. I remember our support being nasty in the 80s/90s but it never decended to picking on kids, disabled, families etc.

I know when I've been on a train on a Saturday and I haven't been the football and I'm with football fans, they're usually absolute weapons.

Not directly picking on no but the worst 'chant' or insult aimed at away fans has got to be the en-masse waving floppy wrists in the air whilst moaning with tongue stuck in the front of their mouths.
I fucking abhor that more than pretty much anything else I've seen at Stoke. And regularly too.

Was it better in your day Not really. I remember vividly waiting at Stoke station for the train to take us to the semi-final replay against West Ham at Old Trafford in 1972. The West Ham fan's train came through at top speed with all the passengers spitting and throwing beer out the windows. Nice. I also got punched in the face on the way back to the station after the match - both sets of fan left from the same station!

I'd like to think I would say something.
And funnily enough recently I did. Walking out the ground at Stamford Bridge, some Southern rejects started calling a bunch of people on a coach a word that begins with M and has just correctly been stared out by the Oatcake (which I actually didn't think was possible).
Whether or not they were disabled in anyway, I wasn't entirely sure, however I absolutely detest that word and just flipped out.
Some police were near by, which was possibly very lucky for me as my mates didn't realise where I was and what I was doing, so it probably would have ended badly.
Moral of the story, principles are principles and should adhered to where possible at all times.
