They wouldn't miss the £3M or so to fill that corner in where the big screen is. A corner stand there (with possibly the first few rows of the South Stand) could be for away fans. Then we could have Stoke fans behind the goal and by the tunnel. That bloody open corner and hundreds of wasted seats behind the goal looks a right mess. They won't put the away fans next to the Family area. I seem to recall that when the planning application was submitted for that corner, the club said that they would move the family area so it included the new corner leaving part of the existing family area in the Novus stand to be sold to non family area fans.

I'm only reporting what the club posted on the official site two years ago. EDIT: I 've also noticed that very few clubs have the away area facing the cameras covering the game. Many away areas are on the side of the ground where the main bank of cameras are.

If they fill the corners in, I think that the plans should include another exit. One that is closed when the final whistle is blown .... so that people who want to leave early, can do so quickly.

If our wage bill is £63m, and bet365's profits are £410m, that means we've got a January transfer fund of nearly £350m to look forward to

Why hasn't at least one corner been filled in? Why has it taken over 15 years to get the sound system sorted?

We've just made a modest profit of £800k in these accounts after a £5 million loss the previous season. The profit, though small, is good news after years of losses.

We were giving tickets away for the Bournemouth game and there were plenty of empties knocking about then so this corner isn't a necessity yet. It's very easy to spend someone else's money. Stoke City is small fry as far as generating wealth for the Coates family, not suggesting for 1 minute that it is just a hobby, but when you look at the mega profits Bet365 makes compared to £800,000 it puts it into perspective. I for one am glad that they have not gone all Peter Risdale on us, and am glad that a successful business family like the Coates family are at the helm.

Like you, I'm chuffed that we have rich owners * but also that we have owners who are trying to make us stand on our own feet. Would that all clubs in the Premier League were run that way. * Edit: I'd still like to see the German model where outside ownership was limited to 50% of the equity. But, in the Premier League, that would have to apply to all the clubs, I don't think there is scope to "go it alone".

Maybe, although I dare ask ever wonder why you tend not to see betting shops or fast food restaurants in more 'affluent' areas? The really rich gamble differently, at the horses or in casino's traditionally. Now they'll do that and have private accounts with the bookies with dedicated staff and what not. I'm in sales within a very materialistic environment and have tried to sell IT to Bet 365 on many occasions so i have no right to get on my high horse. But it is pretty interesting and must feel somewhat weird when Coates looks back on it all and sees how he has built a multi billion pound empire off the back of the vulnerability and frailties of others. That said as Bayern notes, everyone has a choice although admittedly the prospect of gambling is always going to be more appealing to those in desperation.

With you on this one Puggerz. Coates should be splashing the cash more both on and off the field. Hughes has worked miracles given how little we've spent in the past 5 or 6 transfer windows.

He has built a multi billion pound empire off the back of the vulnerability and frailties of others. I think that argument could be applied to many big companies whether they are selling cigarettes, alcohol, cars, loans, insurance, consumables, kids toys, clothes, pharmaceuticals, fast food... the list is endless. At least he is running Stoke in the right way, keeping our finances sensible and it's great to see the players getting involved in the local community. I'm not interested in what he does outside of that or the way he makes his money or chooses to spend it, we wouldn't be in the premier league without Mr Coates and we wouldn't have the likes of Bojan, Arnie, Shaqiri and Shawcross or any of the current crop for that matter.

It's completely his choice how he spends it and I'm eternally grateful for every penny he's given the club already, and will do in the future.

You have to donate a wedge to the Tories for that - as did "Earl" Bamford. Can't see Coates stooping that low. If Labour get in he might stand a chance! Uncle Peter would have to give his entire fortune to Labour to get Jezza elected!
