The thing is Bayern (and I am not saying that you were one of the people who made this statement) when we conceded the Kranjckar free kick at QPR, lots of experts were stating that Bego stood to far to the right of his goal and had left all of the goal behind the wall (always assuming that Kranjckar got it over the wall) available. Again according to the experts he should have taken a step to cover behind the wall and he would then have saved that one to. In your opinion at WHU, taking a step behind the wall to prevent a similar thing happening is what then cost another goal. If people on here can't agree about the correct way to save / defend a direct free kick, and I don't think anyone on here has played at above Sunday League as a goalkeeper, then I'll just leave it to the professional and short of throwing it in (like Sunderland and Chelsea), I am prepared to give credit for a good free kick, After all if Courtois had stood on his line our "goal of the season" would not have got a mention. I thought he was a bit dodgy for the QPR free kick tbh. He just didn't look in the correct position from the off, he was too far to that side. And no it wasn't to prvent the same thing happening, his starting position for the West Ham one was perfect, he didn't need to move. I think he got tricked by the right footer who ran over the ball, went that way and then probably thought "fuuuuuck". The two are only similar in by that his positioning for them was shit. And it doesn't matter what level they've played, we've all watched enough and played enough to know when something obviously isn't right. Courtois should have known better with Adam on the ball.....he made a mistake. I think you should offer your services to the club as a goalkeeping coach. A couple of months with you and we'd have two £20m goalkeepers on our hands

Bego is a fantastic goalkeeper, but he is only human, and humans make mistakes now and then. Anyway I will also question his positioning on free kicks, but for the West Ham goal he probably had the right position, but took a step in the wrong direction. It was a fantastic freekick though!

His starting position was perfect, he shouldn't have moved. He did and that made the positioning awful.

Been a lees than average season for Bego, but still made many many great saves. We must try and keep him in my opinion

His starting position was perfect, he shouldn't have moved. He did and that made the positioning awful. If the ball had been whipped into the opposite corner he'd have made a brilliant save no doubt. How many free kicks have you seen Cresswell take because I can't say he's renown for them. He hit a fucking beauty and it would have beaten most keepers, credit to him. As for the dropped bollock last Saturday, that really was poor and there is no excuse but to call for him to be dropped for Butland is the stuff of FIFA video game mentality.

I can think of a number of errors he has made in the past couple of months which have led to goals. An error last week (and don't forget the way he came running out of the goal and got saved by Whelan!), an error against Chelsea and an error against West Brom (think the goal was wrongly disallowed). His kicking has been awful of late too. He's been in poor form and Butland did say he was hoping to get a few games before the end of the season to prepare himself for the Euros; he certainly deserves the right to.

But it wasn't so he looks like a dick and made a mistake, fine lines I know but that's top class sport. He's made 5 mistakes in the last 5 games that have either led to goals or a chance that should have been scored. 1) Palace-the Peno 2) Chelsea-the second goal 3) West Ham- the free kick 4) Soton- cleared off the line after he stupidly goes walk about 5) Sunderland- the first goal If anybody else had done that they'd have been dropped. And why is it the stuff of video games? People get dropped in football when they're making fuck ups.

Went walk about because he was trying to sweep for the slowest centre back ever seen in pro football 5. Mistake Trouble is Bego set the bar so high last season that every goal this season is being micro analysed to try and apportion blame to him. He is the best keeper we've had down at Stoke since Banks and people want him dropped for a keeper who's looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights on many of his starts for the club.

He had no reason to come out there, it was brain deaded goalkeeping. 2) Agreed 3) It wasn't, he hit straight where the keeper was standing, if he hadn't of taken a step to his right he could have headed it out. That's not a quality free kick. 4) He was never getting to it, he should never have even bothered, again bread deaded goalkeeping. 5) Agreed And that's not even taking into account some of the mistakes he's made before. I think he's ace but anyone on this sort of form should be dropped.

You're missing out the mistake at WBA whilst judging him as at fault for the Penalty is more than harsh given that it wasn't a penalty in any way shape or form. The second Palace goal, maybe, but even that is debatable.

Anyone want to discuss Butland's performances against Liverpool last season or Wrexham and Blackburn this season? I thought he looked okay against Liverpool, in a difficult game and made two very good saves (from coutinho and Sturridge; which unluckily lead to a goal) and wasn't to blame for any of liverpool's goals, he also did brilliantly the two weeks before that against Leicester in the cup (save from nugent) and palace away (triple save if I remember rightly) Wrexham he did okay, not a lot to do. Blackburn he wasn't exceptional but wasn't terrible, maybe could have done better with a couple of the one on ones

I felt like this when people were calling for him to be dropped earlier in the season - goalkeeper is probably the most scrutinised and demanding position on the field to hang on to and you have to roll with occasional periods of poor form - but that was six or eight big errors ago now. It makes sense* to take him of the spotlight and give Butland some game time before the end of the season. *that is ignoring the (admittedly rather large) contract issue, and that by dropping him we may piss him off and/or weaken our position in terms of negotiating a sale or new contract for him.

He hasn't been himself this season and that's an understatement, he's made too many mistakes so if we get a 15 million offer I'd honestly sell and sign a new striker... It would give us more of a budget for more important positions, butland can take on his role as that's why he was bought...
