Ah yes ...The huff and puff post .....Very authoritative that publication isn't it . You might prefer to see the country turned into some suburb of Pakistan , but trust me there are millions out there who don't. I'm one of those who don't . Have you seen the state of Tunstall and Burslem ? An absolute shit hole . I took some Australian relatives down last year to see their ancestral roots and two broke down in tears ...they could believe their own eyes.....and that was before they read the Evening Sentinel . It's the quote of the authors that's worth paying attention to. Or not, as you clearly haven't. Anyway - your subsequent hyperbole needs no further comment from me. Your words say all that needs to be said.

I agree fully with this post. I also had family over from Australia at Christmas. They left Stoke in 2002 and it was the first time they'd been back since, and they had a similar reaction 2002 isn't all that long agree really but in the last 13 years the city , in their words is unrecognisable .

The last time mine were over was in 1976 . The difference back then to now is even greater .
A disgrace .

Harry, we are all in this together you know, haven't you seen the state of Kingston upon Thames and Chipping Norton since austerity began? It's fucking shameful, I don't know how those poor bastards cope with it all

I'd love this City to be a great City, not only for us but for our children and Grand children, but when I have to raise , educate then guide my daughter through life, school, college and uni so she can go and live at Corby by the docks and marina where she is having a great life in a far better place I feel responsible that we ...you and me did not make this City a better place to live.
Go to Edge Hill university at Ormskirk where she studied for her degree, then go to Corby where she lives, then see if you want to come back to Stoke-on-Trent. See if you still swallow the bullshit that our kids are fed that "It's the same wherever you go" I'll bet many places in Britain are far better than what she has experienced, but you tell me WTF went wrong here in Stoke why do we live in a shit hole, 50 years of Labour taking us for granted is why, 50 years of Tories penalising us for voting Labour is why. Time to get rid of them both.

I on the other hand would settle for less.....I'm not too bothered about it being a great City but instead would prefer it if more money was invested by central government through grants and initiatives . I would like to see more blue chip companies encouraged to locate here.
Nothing 'went wrong ' with Stoke on Trent , it's more a case of would you like to reverse the trend of the last 80 years and make Stoke attractive .
Much money needed and a big vote of confidence .

It will take almost 80 years to reverse it. No matter what blue chip companies locate there, there is at least one generation that needs to pass through before the city can lose the backward mentality that has dragged it down. The place is plagued with people who are almost proud its so run down. With a lack of good schools and universities its probably more like two generations before things will really improve.

Time to get rid of them both. Totally agree with you mate. Remember visiting Corby, probably 20 odd years ago now and going round the British Steel site. I have to say then it was at least as neglected as Stoke, so fair play to them for turning it round so quickly. I did see a couple of weeks ago that it was one of the fastest growing areas of the country. I can't see us saying the same about our own city any time soon. Still at least Mohammed Pervez has a plan, another term in charge, and we are mug enough to give it to him. Heres an example of our fine city council's work, £1.3 million spent on the former Spode site over the past 5 years, for absolutely zero improvement. Remember to carry on voting Labour. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Council-pay-1-3m-maintain-Spode-site/story-26304328-detail/story.html

Every project that has been mooted seems to be on a much smaller scale than what is actually needed . There seems no cohesive plan link several projects together.
A more drastic plan of attack is needed I feel . Perhaps this is where the Lord Mayor should pull different ideas and projects together .
