Price is surely putting teams off...for a player that hasn't really played much in recent years, stock has fallen but not in the players eyes...

Not sure if this could help in any way but Hughes spent time on loan at Bayern Munich and this was a stepping stone to his move to Man Utd. Shaqiri moved from Bayern to try and get more games I believe, this hasn't worked out at Inter, so Stoke could be a good "stepping stone" to move to a "bigger club" What? Hughes was at United first as most people know and rejoined United. Or were they a stepping stone to Chelsea?

QPR have turned down bids of 12m for Charlie Austin though... I really don't think its that big of a fee in today's market. Liverpool paid that for Clyne. Matt Phillips will probably cost over 8m.... Im not sure what I'm missing.

Ffs, I understand that he wants to keep his options open but why can't we either keep it private to avoid let down and being laughed at by the world of football? We never seem able to do( apart from Joselu, but that's the first time I've seen it happen in recent memory) but other clubs can. We also never seem able to shake off the tag TP got us, don't know why but it's costing us signings. im sounding a bit like biscuit but I hope MH can do it. What makes you think that the potential transfer of Switzerland's most famous player from one of the biggest clubs in Italy to a club in the most hyped league in the world could ever be kept private? Well why do the shit seem to sign some players silently enough. A couple of rumours but nothing serious, like Depay, then BOOM, he's signed all of a sudden. That transfer came out of nowhere, why can't we seem to do that?

I think it had everything to do with LVG and the fact that Depay probably didn't have to think twice about joining one of the world' s top clubs. How can you really compare our pursuit of players?

Their pursuit of Ramos has been much more public than the Shaqiri saga!

I hope that they can prove me wrong and sign a big player out of the blue, but with Stoke I can't see that happening. We never do it the easy way.

I wonder if the Premier League really is the mother of all leagues. Our teams didn't do too well last season in the CL. Yes the PL is awash with money, but money doesn't always equate with quality.
Maybe the pulling power of PL football isn't as big as we think it is. Maybe players at top European teams see PL as a step down.

Reading some of the negativity and impatience on this thread, I'm not sure what fans actually expect? First and foremost, Stoke City won't be the "dream move" for 99.9% of professional footballers. That is true of most teams. We all like to think players have a desire to pull on the red and white jersey, and I think many do when they actually get here and start playing, but when it comes to transfers we're just one of many options available to a player. That is true for most deals but it becomes even more apparent when you start to target the players we're going for. Top flight players aren't going to jump at the chance to sign for us. Most players will take their time and weigh up their options. That doesn't mean they messing us about or using us to fish out a move to a bigger club. It's just part and parcel of the game. I laud the club for having the ambition to try and get to the next level. None of the deals may come off but at least we're giving them a good go. I'm sure we could easily pick up many decent players that would come in and fluff up the squad, but what's the point in that? We've done brilliantly over the past two seasons and we're reaching a point now where it's going to take a big effort to go even further. That's quite clearly what the club are trying to do. The club doesn't publicise these deals. That's just the world we live in and a by product of social media. As for clubs laughing at us? Who really gives a fuck? When did we become a set of fans that is bothered what others think about us? Plus, we've got Bojan so they can all fuck off Times are good. Let's have a bit of patience and let the management team try and take us one step further. Bang on the money for me wd

They were linked with him for ages! Look at the De Gea and Ramos sagas. Right out in public. Apart from Joselu, there are many more signings we've done recently that we had no idea were happening- Muni, Arnie, Bardsley, Sidwell, Bojan (if he wasn't spotted at Rookery Hall!)

As has been said earlier - if you are an agent and you get a bid from Manu, you keep quiet about it, get your client to Old Trafford for a medical and strap him into a chair while he signs a contract. Same for the other big 5. Otherwise you leak your client's availability so that the big 6 ARE aware.

If he wasn't remotely interested on joining we would of had official word by no saying so straight from the players mouth. Also we would never of bid for him.
Patience. I can see this happening, wages won't be an issue, and if he wasn't interested we would know by now.

Last season only Chelsea took 6 points off us and, from what I pick up from other fans, virtually all clubs don't relish playing Stoke.

Not bad line up next year LinkSwap Wolly for Muniesa and Diouf for Joselu (initially) and I agree! Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards I agree with you, but I would like better defensive options on midfield and defence.

Because it's not delusional, optimistic claptrap you don't like it and each week that goes by you like it less , show me a next level signing or 2 and I will desist . It's about time you wound your neck in a bit. You keep wittering on about the next level, but cast your mind back three summers ago. We were signing Jamie Ness, Maurice Edu, Michael Kightly and Geoff Cameron. Steven N'zonzi came from a relegated club and Charlie Adam was our marquee signing. We're now looking to improve a squad that features some of the most talented players this club has ever had. Do you have any idea how hard that is? You sound like an Arsenal fan throwing his toys out of the pram because they can't attract the players to compete with Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. Get a grip and give the club the time and patience they deserve.
