Is that Ireland committed the worst tackle of the day and should have been off before the Figueroa challenge.
Meyler is always the victim isn't he?

He's hanging on for grim life. Can you blame him? Ireland's tackle was pretty poor, but the Figueroa one was just awful.

To be fair it was a dreadful stamp tackle that could have caused some damage, so he is right.
Let's not let our red and white tinted eyes cloud things.
Ireland's tackle was a red all day and night.

Being honest, I've still not seen it but it just seems that there's always more to it when we are involved. If we had injured a player like that there would be bloody hell to pay.

As poor as it was, in essence, the Ireland tackle was dealt with, as the free kick was awarded. This idea being banded on MOTD and now by bloody Graham Poll on TalkSport, that the Figueroa challenge was made in retribution is a nonsense as, leniently or otherwise the referee had dealt with the initial Ireland tackle. Figueroa's on the other hand....

That cheap dig by MOTD was embarrassing
Along with BT sport they still have an agenda against SCFC
If any player ftom any other club had been in Ireland's position they would not have dragged that first nothing challenge up
The editor has scrawled through the footage to nail him and SCFC

Strange, I don't remember Ryan Shawcross being cut any slack by the media, pundits and ex-referees when he went through the back of Adebayor after he'd stuck his studs into Ryan's stomach that time.
In fact, if my memory serves me correctly, the Adebayor challenge on Shawcross wasn't shown in the highlights, just Ryan's foul.

Something should be done about the studs, if that is what they can do. Figueroa should be banned. End of! Whether the referee saw it or not. Too easy an excuse IMHO.

I think it's just an attempt to divert attention away from the foul by Figueroa. SB is hoping that either Figueroa and Ireland are both punished retrospectively or neither. Of course his argument doesn't hold water because the Ireland foul was punished by a free kick.

My gripe is with the BBC and not Steve Bruce
We are beginning to sound like Arsenal fans .....these things have and will continue to happen in football and will only stop if it becomes a non contact sport

The big thing for me isn't the lack of a red card or anything of the sort. It was more the fact that we didn't even get a free kick for what was clearly a shocking tackle when looking at it from 50 yards away.

Yeah very odd how 'retribution' in this instance seems fair game. Graham fucking Poll has literally just said that although the Figueroa tackle deserved a card, because the Ireland tackle wasn't dealt with then players are more likely to take the initiative to hand out retribution. Seems to have missed the fact that the Ireland tackle was dealt with as Hull on the freekick. As wank as he was, if a fucking ex ref can overlook such details, then what chance is there really?

The Ireland one, he's on his feet, calm and not out of control and I think he's hoping to just block the ball, the Hull player comes in very quick at low level, just nicks the ball and momentum takes him forward, the Figueroa one is just plain nasty, he's got the ball, and he then moves his foot to Ireland's leg.

He said that poor refereeing leads to players taking things into their own hands. He said that it is the referee's number one priority to protect the players by dishing out correct punishments to bad challenges, something which Swarbrick failed to do TWICE. He didn't say or even intimate that retribution was fair game.
Real time, Ireland's didn't look that bad, slowed down it was very naughty and I bet if the ref had seen it properly he would of gone. The Elmohamady one is appalling and right in front of the Lino - he should of been sent off.

Think Ireland's is a booking and Figuero's is just a weird, reckless thing to do. We constantly have it rammed down our throats that an out of control challenge is a dangerous one and a red card so it's only fair if the opposition get that as well.

Not defending Ireland's 'tackle' on Meyler it was a bit naughty and deserved a yellow (how on earth did Swarbrick think Eric deserved yellow for his 'foul' but Ireland didn't for his?) However, there can be no justification whatsoever for Figueroa's challenge. Yes he won the ball initially but then followed through and deliberately 'did' Ireland through the back. I actually believe he makes a second lunge, a totally separate movement, in order to bring his foot down onto Irelands calf. It was a sneaky, horrible, dangerous tackle but Swarbrick apparently saw nothing wrong with it.

As for Bruce, well he's right.
And neither did I intimate that Poll said it was fair game, just that it was more likely to happen if referees don't get the initial decision right. I like to think I'm reasonably objective when it comes to decisions given for and against Stoke, as objective as you can be whilst still supporting your team. I didn't think the Ireland tackle was a red card, although I've seen players walk for less, but the fact remains that in the referee's eyes, the incident had been dealt with, yet all officials completely disregarded the Figueroa challenge. I'm just pissed off that we've lost yet another player actually. Makes no odds what happens to Hull and Figueroa to me now.

I'm stunned people don't think Ireland's was a red. 2 inches to the right and Meyler has a serious problem. Timing of a tackle shouldn't determine if a player gets hurt or not. If it does then it's excessive force IMO. I'm assuming if Jack Wilshere did something similar on Bojan, for example, that we'd be screaming for a little more than a yellow.
