Not sure why JCB would need to spend money for our naming rights or any other advertising. They are much larger company than us and a leader in their field and their turnover far exceeds ours. Sent from my C6603 using proboards That is true of most major sponsors of Prem clubs - in fact the majority of companies sponsoring Prem teams are larger than the clubs they sponsor. You do realise that Chevrolet are larger than Man utd and Wonga are larger than Newcastle United?

Are old Trafford, villa park and white Hart Lane sponsors then? Absolutely no comparison. It's chance that the name is quite 'neutral' in that it doesn't immediately make people think of a Building Society. Lucky it's not called the WeBuyAnyCar.com stadium... I don't like the fact that Bolton's ground is no longer 'The Reebok'... The Macron Stadium just sounds shit. I agree, nobody I've ever met has suggested Britannia has anything to do with the building society. Now that Britannia is being dissolved by co op, the name will soon cease to exist. At which point, it'll be relevant to our ground and I believe the name is iconic. I hate the thought of it being called Bet365's Bet365 Arena sponsored by Bet365, in association with ExxonMobil. Doesn't have the same ring does it?

At first I never realised the Britannia Stadium was just for the sponsorship . I'd like a lasting name, like the one it already has or something to do with the City, the Club, the County, the Country, anything other than a corporate product or company name

I hope we can keep it as the Britannia I know it was a building society who sponsored the ground but surely they don't own the word Britannia and seen as they've gone bust we would be free to use it still wouldn't we? if we cant keep it as the Britannia I hope we dont have a sponsored stadium and have us fans name it.

I'd assume Coop still own the Britannia trademark even though the company is defunct. I think Tata still own the Rover Cars trademark. What about Brit Insurance, sponsors of the Brit Oval? Granville "so uncle Arkwright, where do Stoke City play?" Arkwright " the Brit Brit Brittania" (I'll get me coat (cloth))

This is the thing though. Does the fact that he is a small town large employer give him the right to dictate to the 10000 people that live in the area how the town will be set out? Colonel Gadaffi springs to mind Don't know a lot about the specific local issue you refer to, to be honest, but I have always found it surprising that a huge local firm such as jcb have not used the opportunity the club offers in terms of exposure to the wider world. Especially since we've been in the prem. Maybe it's because Coates is a labour supporter and Mr B bats for the blue team? My mate is a welding instructor at the rosster HQ OF JCB and they are a good local firm they have done their bit they em have a school academy for engineers and welders at the north Staffs poly state on beaconsfoeld in stafford THEY DO THEIR BIT, NO PLITICS OINVOLVED

If I remember my history right the Victoria pub used to own the land which the Vic stood on, until the club later acquired it, and the Victoria Ground was named after the pub. It's not too different from the Brit, named after a company which contributed towards the building of the stadium. Keeping the Britannia Stadium name would be just the same as the Victoria Ground keeping its name long after the original reason was forgotten.

SpinksyBut a slightly less dramatic decision will confront them this summer when sponsorship of the Britannia Stadium changes hands.
Given bet365's pivotal role in the club's ownership, no-one would be too surprised to see their name becoming the stadium's new name.
But as `Britannia’ is a word transcending a mere building society, not to mention supporter allegiance to the Brit, Stoke's new home should surely become known from next season as the “bet365 Britannia Stadium” should that company become its sponsor.
But history suggests the club's hierarchy, with a beady eye on supporter feelings, will have worked this one out already.

Stoke stadiums will not be sponsored by bet365, Denise wants outside money coming into the club and not constantly Bet365 bank rolling the club. Britannia will be kept in some capacity as it's now a dissolved company so the Trademark associated with it is no longer there. The only reason Britannia will be removed is that the bid is large enough and in the clubs interests to so so I was going to say the same we need an independant sponsor to ease the pressure on Bet365.
