Back at Stoke Wednesday v Man C doing commentary for BBC radio Stoke.
Think a chorus of Etherington, Etherington running down the wing in the 26th min will make him feel at home.

Another player criminally robbed of an England appearance. A nice rendition of Etherington running down the wing Im sure will go down a treat.

We'd have got a couple more seasons out of him if it wasn't for those dirty Yam Yam cunts.

Must admit, in what was known beforehand as being Matty's last-ever game with us, when LMH brought him on as a sub for the last 10 mins or so (and didn't have to) and the Stokies gave him a couple of massive choruses of 'Here's to you, Matty Etherington' I felt really choked with emotion for him - it was a superb and clearly heartfelt tribute to him. Marvellous. Let's do it.

It'd be nice to bring him out at half time. They don't seem to do that any more.

Two pre cup final injuries...Ethers and Ric were just innocuous with no tackle or collision or owt. I stiil wonder how we'd have done with a proper fully fit team out at Wembo.

If Bojan ever gets close to Matty Etherington he'll be doing very well.
There were a group of players that came thru that fabled West Ham Academy. And Matty was the pick of the bunch.
Hit the first goal in the 5-0 at Wembley too. One of the greatest players not to heve held down an England shirt and perhaps would make it onto the bench in an ALL-TIME Stoke City XI.

Etherington and Stoke were a perfect match at the right time. I've always admired the way he turned his life around on joining Stoke. How many lesser characters blow their second chance?

Who was it that called Matty "a clever little shit" Sorenson?
At the same age Matty would have ripped Arnie a new arse.

Ethers was a decent player during his time at Stoke no more, no less.
He was a massive step up from Cresswell which tends to make him look far better than he actually was.

I think to call him "decent" is the understatement of the year. His ability to take the ball out out of defence to relieve pressure when we were under the kosh was invaluable. And when we had two wingers flying it was great to watch.

Arguably playing the best footy of his career during that spell just before he got injured vs Wolves. A great buy and probably should have been called up for England too.

the fact that we are sponsored by bookmakers should be enough to make him feel at home... seriously though, anyone involved in our promotion and staying up deserves a great reception

Great idea. He was absolutely wonderful for us and a joy to watch.
He came to us with major off the field problems and turned them around with the help of us, the SCFC family, giving us the best football of his career.
How he never got an England call up is beyond me and I feel the same regarding Ryan. But that is the arrogance of Woy that is killing the national team and is a subject for another day.
Imagine a fully fit Bojan and Etherington going forward.....
