What they would give for a half of a limping Gordon Greenidge these days ! The sad thing is that you could add about 40 names to Greenidge. And some of them would only be decent cricketers rather than greats like Greening.

Darren Sammy, classy player and a thoroughly nice chap.
Much needed 89 for the Windies.

Ireland are still more than in with a chance, they've got the hitting power in their order. Windies playing with no spinners who put the brakes on brilliantly earlier for the Irish.

Mooney's appearance is completely contradictory to his bowling speed and style.

They both bring something to this tournament don't they? The 30k plus grounds in Australia, and these boutique style grinds in New Zealand (which do really look like great days out don't they - just like our county grounds?)

Great post! It's the thing that separates cricket from most other sports - you can enjoy the oppositions success. K When one of the Aussie batsman is destroying England I can enjoy the innings for what it is - a great personal achievement -which is what cricket is about. Much more difficult in football.

Smashing knock from Simmons . Before Sammy got going they were struggling to get close to 200. 304 is excellent. Off to bed.

All lovey dovey on the World Cup thread over night...
But, back to business this morning; Ireland beat the Windies successfully chasing down a score over 300. Apparently, there have been 5 successful run chase over 300 and Ireland are responsible for 3 of them!
Great for Ireland, but what us happening to the Windies is tragic. Cricket is much the poorer while they are in such trouble.
Now remember, Scotland beat Ireland in the warm up games and we face Scotland soon in a group game...

My initial thoughts are that both Zimbabwe and Ireland are both more powerful batting units more than capable of hitting 300+, in that respect I'm glad we're in the other group as Bangladesh are on a downward spiral so we may just sneak through in 4th spot. Even the Windies despite losing have match winners in their batting line up that I just don't see in our team (Buttler aside). I think it's going to be painful watching England this tournament (least we're all used to it over the years! )

Hang on, Ireland have beaten the West Indies, correct? Why on earth does the BBC Cricket website read... Monday 16th February 2015 Ireland v West Indies Nelson 22:00 www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/fixturesWould that not suggest (as it's in UK time) that the match would start at 10pm this evening? Unless i'm missing summat very obvious, aside from the fact that the BBC is bloody awful at being accurate when it comes to these things.

Huge congratulations to Ireland but I'm afraid the cricketing nation of the West Indies is dying a very slow and painful death. No leadership on or off the field, batsmen care more about strike rates than their averages and their bowling attack without Narine is absolutely second rate.
