As I've seen Onlooker mention on another thread, what is the general consensus about the current situation with him? Contracted till 2016, no sign yet of a new deal on the horizon either because of the club or himself and Butland waiting in the wings.
If he is to sign an extension I can see Butland moving on personally. He didn't sign for Chelsea to be on the bench but it's what will happen to him, more than it does now, if Begovic gets an extension. Obviously I can't see where he would fit in at a Premier League club at the moment, however maybe Bournemouth etc. could find a place for him in their starting XI.
I may be in the minority here, but personally I would rather us cash in on Begovic and have Butland as our No.1, he looked decent when he had his brief run last year and he will only get better and it's good for the club that he is the England U21 Captain.

Unless he sorts his distribution out I can't see many clubs willing to part with top dollar for his services.

That ship has sailed - Begovic's stock was high and we thought a few would come sniffing but it did not materialise, after his so-far distinctly average current season, we are now going to have to wait until another club needs a new keeper and even then I do not think we will be able to demand anything like some of the sums people have previously speculated on here.
I also think Hughes has to be careful how he manages the Butland situation - I firmly believe we got him in under the assumption that Bego was on his way. That now seems unlikely and Butland will want to play. He will handle the situation better if Bego is on top form and 'undroppable' but at the moment he isn't IMO and Butland will also be mindful of this.

Offer him a new contract, we need him here, sadly as good a prospect as Butland is he's a prospect and Begovic is proven.
We need to release Sorenson in the summer and keep Butland as number 2 to play in cup matches and league games, drop Begovic if need be to create healthy compitition. Begovic is perhaps becoming a bit complacent, a drop to the bench for a few games might see him return to his better form.

With regards Jack Butland, if i were him i'd be looking at getting out of Stoke City and into a club where i'd be playing week in week out.
He's gone from being a much talked about future England keeper to a "oh him, still going is he? who does he play for? does he play?" I know he's only 21 but he should be playing every week somewhere.
If Begovic stays here next season i can't see Butland staying to lose another season of football. He doesn't strike me as the sort of person who just wants to do bugger all and get paid. He has ambitions and wants to play, as long as Asmir's here i don't think he will.

I can't help but shit myself every time a defender passes the ball back to Begovic and he's closed down by the opposition. It's just the one part of his game that he's never improved on. I'd be happy with Butland in goal if a big offer came in for Bego.

I thin Bego will be with us for a long time now. He's seen as good in the game-but not good enough for a top four team

He's had a pretty poor season really. No surprise there was no interest this January.

Form is temporary, but class is permanent.
Asmir is class.
Hopefully, Jack will prove to be as good.

Still think he's an absolute class act who could do a great job for a top 4 team.
If teams have been put off by the prospect of a hefty 8-figure transfer fee, as the clock starts ticking towards July '16, they sadly may start to see the price dip below the £10m mark which will make him very attractive.
To Liverpool maybe?
It's going to be interesting to see if he'll re-sign. If he does, you'd think he'd ask for a player-friendly clause which would mean we had to let him go if someone offers a set fee?
If he won't do that, we'll have to try and sell him this summer, because we can't keep Butland hanging forever in a perpetual No Mans Land.
If he does re-sign, God only knows what happens to Butland.

Surely any Stokie would want the best players playing for Stoke so why would anyone want to "cash in" on Bego? Butland may become great in future and hopefully it will be in a Stoke shirt but at present he is still unproven at the top level and may never actually make it. Surely the club arent that desperate for cash we need to start selling our crown jewels but should be pulling out all the stops to keep him and if Jack is not prepared to wait then let him go. Bego is only 27 and as many a good year left and I for one pray he sees them out at Stoke.

I think Jack more than proved himself in the little run he had last year. What was the point in signing him if we never intend him to play? He might as well have stayed at Birmingham if he was going to be playing Championship games for years to come

How many games was it Three? Compare to Begos`s record. Not disputing Butland has not got the potential to be a top keeper just cannot see why anyone would want rid of a Goalie who most could quite justifiably call one of the best in the premier league for the last couple of seasons.Suppose we should get shot of Ryan as well so we don't let Muniesa and Wollschied stagnate.

I'm sorry but on current form Begovic is no where near the best in the top flight. To say he's been poor is not right at all but IMO hes been bang average and Butland should feel a tad disappointed hes not had more game time.

I'm surprised more hasn't been made of the Begovic situation. Realistically he would've commanded a fee of around £16-£18m last summer with 2 years left on his contract. Unless he signs a new contract before the summer, we're looking around half at that at around £8m if we move him on I reckon. And if we don't sell him in the summer and he doesn't re-sign, then next January we'd be lucky to get £4m and may even lose him for nothing on a pre-contract to a European club.
It's all about whether he signs an extension or not but it's eerily quiet on that front.

Arsenal away is a prime example. Asmir made some great saves then fucked up on their free kick goal. You make a mistake as a keeper and you can't claim to have had a good game. Asmir has made more mistakes this season than he did in the previous 3 seasons combined and by his own standards, has been nowhere near his best.

It is quite sad and shocking to think that we are stagnating Butland's career.. He started around 30 games (most of them in the Championship) in 2014 so its hardly that bad. Begovic has been great for us both on and off the pitch and it'd be sad to see him go, but I hope Butland becomes our number 1 one day (there's some English bias in there).
