The build up around Sir Stan yesterday by the media got me thinking about that statue. It really is a disgrace where it's placed and wouldn't take much effort at all to have it moved, the clubs greatest ever player, and an awesome statue is just wasted stuck at the back of a fucking car park.
There are other things though as well, Bayern mentioned the traffic management in another thread, it's awful. The path leading back to Heron Cross needs work too, and it would cost fuck all.
At least the concourse was finally revamped this year.

I find its location quite poignant.
It's in between the Brit and the Vic and provides a wonderful link between the two, the old and the new, his era and the recent era's.

Doesnt the path to Heron Cross belong to the council?
I think the club are responsible for the bit up to the tunnel and then that's it isn't it.

Whilst I agree with this I think it would look much better right outside the main entrance - the epicentre of activity on match days or any events at the Brit. A bit like the Bobby Moore statue at Wembley. Would breathe a bit of character into what is a bit of a stale entrance too.

The original idea I think was for it to be seen from the A50. Only now, with the overgrown bushes and trees, it can't be.
Personally, though, I think it should stay where it is until we move into our new 40,000-seat stadium on the old Victoria Ground, which will be named the Stanley Matthews Stadium or something similar. Stan's triple-statue will be sited immediately outside the grand main entrance; there will be additional statues of Gordon Banks, John Ritchie and Tony............................................................... Waddington.
As awesome as this will be, I doubt it'll ever happen. Moving the statue from where it is now to the main entrance would make sense - but then it would involve rearranging that section of the car park (potentially) the road system too.
As for the path - I do believe that is SoT property. Unlikely they'll do anything to improve it though. It took how many years to have a tunnel installed!?

Move it to the entrance of the stadium or on the roundabout by the Toyota, VW, audi garages.
it's wasted where it is.

I've been saying for years we're two bob off the pitch. Small minded individuals left to run the club.
Ticketing, the empty corners, the p.a., the traffic...

Of course it should be outside the main entrance, off the field this club is unbelievably crap at organising anything, john richies bust is another, its only use where it is, is to provide a goalpost for the kids before the match, absolutely disgraceful stoke, ffs get it sorted

I think it is in the right place although they should keep the trees and shrubs cut back so that it is eyeline of the Vic and can bee seen from the 500 and the 50. I also think John Richies bust is ok where it is. For a striker I think the Boothen end is a perfect place for it. If we ever get the Gordon Banks statue I think that would be good on the roundabout behind the South stand. Anything outside the main entrance would still be out of the way for visiting supporters.

Is it true that the Matthews memorial was voted into the top ten most beautiful statues in the world recently ? It's not often you have that outside your stadium.

Well it's in full view from the back of the boothen . I like the way it's slightly hidden and not something that is there for every car to pollute. Seems more peaceful that way. The way someone's passing should be.

The way someone's passing should be. Thats not a bad point actually. If I go up the Brit non match day I sometimes go and spend 10 minutes at Stans statue. It is quite a peaceful place considering it is above a major road junction on the edge of a city.

You can only see it from the back of the Boothen if you stand on your tip toes and look through the parked cars and fences in the way.
We should be showing it off for all to see and pay their respects.

"I want to pay my respects but only if I don't have to walk there". It's a few minutes of your time and if it was in a more commercial place, I'm sure people would just walk past and not notice.

I was under the impression that it's located where it is because it overlooks the site of the vic. I like it where it is. To move it next to a car dealership would be insulting the great man's memory.

If it was right outside the main entrance thousands of people would walk past it on match day and it would become part of the furniture. The statue is a special and magnificent thing and much better that people have to make the effort to walk for 2 minutes to get to it.

A new book came out, for Christmas, with photo's of all of the statues at football grounds in the UK (sorry don't have the title to hand) and Stan's was voted number one.
Yes it's fine for our own supporters who can be bothered to visit it, but it is a no-go for opposition fans who are driven into their South Stand cage and then through the turnstiles and into their concourse. I often recommend them to go visit it, and the comeback is always one of gratitude for having finally seen it.
