Market forces mate. You either want the work or you don't. No one is forcing a brickie to work for peanuts. It's his choice. I work for an oil company as a contractor on a day rate. They are demanding every supplier and engineering design consultant cut their rates by 10-15%. All of them will do it because they would rather have a years work at minimal profit than no work at all. They are also looking very hard at getting rid of people like me. It's the way of the world.

I wondered if, having to over stretch to reach a ball being blown about by the wind would contribute to the injury level?

I like what you did there. Are you a lawyer? It's his choice to work for peanuts or not. If he doesn't need the money or thinks he can get better paid work elsewhere then let him go ahead. Just don't blame others for his own decisions.

We should build bottle kilns in each corner and put media and hospitality in them. Palacios could sit in the neck end!

Either lower your prices by 15% or don't get the work....
Market forces or large corporate bullying? You decide.

Me personally i wouldnt lower my rate for anyone, why to allow the rich to get richer and the poor to become poorer. They must think ive just fell out of a christmas tree, and by your own argument you are being forced to do it!! If you all stuck together and told them No then they wouldnt be able to do it. However solidarity is a thing of the past now thats the way of the world mate

A bit of both. I have told my contractors that if they stand firm they will get a better deal and the big corporation will back down. However, my experience suggests that they will bend and agree to the revised terms. It is swings and roundabouts though because the contractors have had it very good for the last five years. Also, the oil company has seen their revenue cut by 20-30% so they are taking a hit as well...although they can weather the storm a bit better I would think. I have been threatened (indirectly) with the sack twice in the last two weeks and I can assure you I have done nothing wrong and my projects are all going well. The threats are empty gestures IMO but it shows the stress my manager is under. People are just being squeezed by their bosses and tensions are rising.

It really is a poor location for a ground in so many ways. Filling the corners in might, at least, minimise the effects of the wind. The West Brom ground is higher above sea level and yet it's still colder at the Brit. FFS FILL THEM CORNERS!

Yes youre right RAF the stadium is a shit hole, definitely built on the cheap when fat boy moxey was in charge of the purse strings, i know for a fact theplayers don't particularly like playing there because of the ridiculous swirling conditions and the wind, even the 4 corner flags blow in different directions The pitch is getting cut up now, the effects of the horse hair mixed in with the sandy soil to hold the grasses together have long since gone, if they are not going to fill in the corners they could at least do what theyve done at ibrox, ewood park etc and screen off the ends of the stands so it cuts down the wind, admitedly it worked for pulis but we have moved on since then......i say knock it down and start again at the vic!

We are the same here in Nigeria mate, gone are the business class flights (for most anyway) The only real bonus just lately is the fact that the dollar dropped from 1:72 to 1:52 which offset the reduction in some contractors salaries. Stick with it and our turn will come again !! Regarding the ground, it is a ball ache getting on and off, and it's freezing in the wind.

Another game absolutely destroyed
Any danger of a sodding windbreak or two?

Pretty much ruined as a spectacle. The ball was swirling all over the place and yet I'm convinced their keeper didn't move for Shaqiris shot because he was expecting it to move and it didn't so we could say it benefited us in the end

Used to benefit us, now we've evolved it hinders us. Spot on. The corner by the Boothen End needs filling in more than the score board corner as this wind is far worse at that end.

No point making any judgements about tonight's game- the wind made a farce of it.
Don't think any team would have been able to play football in those conditions; I could only just about stand up outside the ground at the end.
We definitely need to do something about it now. I've got a couple of old stripy windbreaks in the shed if Coatesy wants to borrow them for the corners?

When the directors of scfc realise thathe britannia stadium is an absolute SHIT HOLE they might do something about it, my view is, knock the 14 million pound shit hole down and start again , it is a premier league embarassment Failing that, can't we at least replace that horrible looking 'clear'corrugated perspex shit around all the outside and replace with a more solid looking red and white panelling. Bricks would be better though. It's like the premier league version of the Bescott Stadium, at the moment.

we've got more than enough quality in the squad these days and we don't need to think about being helped by poor weather conditions. frankly, the ground is absolute wank. done on the cheap and already looking past its sell by date. Its pretty shit that you can get a seat in row 8 and get soaked in the rain Wish we could build a new one where the Victoria ground used to be. You and me both. Here, here.

The conditions tonight were atrocious, as bad as anything we've seen at the Brit.
Even balls along the floor were affected. Their chance at the end came from the wind blowing the ball away from Cameron as he moved to clear it.
Shocking conditions and as frustrating as tonight was, you have to cut the players a bit of slack.

This is surely obvious to the club? With the gazillions from the new TV deal now guaranteed for next season, this needs to be addressed given we are trying to play some decent football......in a wind tunnel!

Maybe time to whisper something along these lines into the decision makers' ears, TC?
Sadly we know that the Brit micro-climate means there's going to be many more nights like this reduced to farce!

If we are going to play football based on skill and precision, we need a new stadium with a retractable roof.
Bet365/Coates family have the cash which the club can pay back over the next 50 years.

Have any of you ever played Sunday league football? It's simply awful how the wintery conditions are affecting this sport. Something must be done! What you are doing there is comparing a high performance elite level team to your hungover mates down the park. Pot holes aren't the end of the world when your in a Volvo but a pot hole in an F1 car can mean a shit end to your day and a trip to a&e. Like it or not Sunday league might as well be a different sport... And no, people's wages don't change there ability to perform precision skills in poor conditions either.

The corners need filling in. We are not a Pulisball team anymore and the wind definitely affects OUR team as well as any other. On top of that for paying customers it spoils the game as well as freezing your knackers off.

I am not all that convinced filling the corner in will be the answer to the problem to be honest but I'm no aerodynamicist. The traffic problem is the main problem for me, certainly for night games. It took 45 mins to get from Longton to the stadium last night waiting to get onto the slip road at the Brit then a further 1 hour plus to get away afterwards. The whole Trentham Lakes estate is crying out for more access, ideally directly off the A500, and with them now building a housing estate further down the problems will only escalate.

The traffic was appalling last night. I have to get home from work, then catch a bus. On a normal day, my trip home takes about an hour. It took over 2 hours to get home, which meant I was minutes away from missing the bus. We were then almost late for the match.
