So a season ticket holder effectively saves 3 quid a game. They get that 3 quid a game back with the first cup game you can't go to or get rid of the ticket. So all you really gain is having the same seat every game.

I wonder why this story didn't come out when tickets for European games are issued? The story hasn't just "come out", even if the Daily Mail have only just decided to run it. The Man Utd fans groups have been fighting it and taking it to the OFT for ages.

I think not.

I first knew about this last season, I'm working in Scotland and a Man U fan says he's going to a champions league game and that he has to buy tickets via direct debit, 2 days off work and a 450 mile round trip. I mentioned this to another lad and he said his team also make you buy a cup ticket, I think it was one of the Sheffield clubs but I'm not certain. Anyways football has long since been an inexpensive way of spending a Saturday afternoon WE DON'T ALL LIVE OR WORK IN THE SHADOW OF OUR CLUBS GROUND

There but for the grace of god. Whatever you think of Man U. and their supporters, this sort of thing is just one more Big Money attack on the game I knew growing up. Wake up people. You think it would never happen at Stoke? Coates isn't immortal. Dream on.

You think it would never happen at Stoke? Coates isn't immortal. Dream on. I was bitching and moaning when it cost more than a tenner and I said I'd stop going if it wNt up to £15 :-) What did stop me going was the police requirement of registering, sod that for a game of draconian's Ticket prices on individual games are a disgrace, the cost of a Mars bar is a rip off and why oh why can't they sell child size bottles of pop. Players on tens of thousands a week, some on hundreds of thousands a week. How much do the vast majority get paid? anyways...

All clubs will get more demand for cup games against top clubs, unless they do something significant on prices. Including us. A lot of our season ticket holders didn't go against Wrexham. Man U should do what most clubs, including us, do and give season ticket holders first dibs at their own seat for cup games but don't have any compulsion. The way to increase gates for such games is to lower prices, not keep prices very high but ban fans from the next league game if they don't buy. It's bullying blackmail. No doubt a lot of their ST holders fans will feel compelled to buy, but not turn up, and they'll have a gate figure which is a fiction.

No doubt a lot of their ST holders fans will feel compelled to buy, but not turn up, and they'll have a gate figure which is a fiction. It's all about supply and demand isn't it, much like it is with us. A few years ago, Manure fans were probably falling over themselves to be part of this scheme because it was big game after big game for them. The last year and half, they've fallen on hard times, demand is falling judging by the adverts and e-mails they are placing trying to get people actually to go and watch their games. Manure having a poor game and a true reflection of their attendances would be bad for their brand, a brand their shitehawk supporters have helped to propagate. It is shit and it is a scandal but when you have a waiting list for season tickets, they can pretty much do whatever the hell they like because they know some other mug will jump into the seat once it is vacated. It's a bit like a golf club trying to charge a joining fee. Fine when your oversubscribed and people are falling over themselves to join, but not so fine when membership is down and you need to attract people into the club.

It's not like they've had to shell out for Champions League tickets though this year is it? You'd think they'd all want to see their heroes at the Theatre of Dreams as much as possible given their limited opportunities this season... ????????????

Forget about it being Man Utd for a minute. Let's say that Southampton got fourth place this season and they had this scheme put in place. Would everyone still be going 'ha ha ha gloryhunters ha ha ha'?

You can't have if both ways.

Not so long ago stoke included five cup tickets with the season tickets. You paid up front so no need to suspend anybody. Why all the fussn fans have always been treated like shit. How they fuck the Germans have avoided it can only be admired. Just turn up when required and shut the fuck up.
