Ships and bases in the RN, played against the Army bases a couple of times, played in the Oxford and the Witney and district leagues, and hung my boots up at 50 in the Crewe and District League, I was still fitter than some of those youngsters as well

I had a trial for the R.A.F. against Farnborough Town back in the 80's. What level that was I have no idea! I was a winger back in those days! I failed because I managed to break my Tib and Fib and fracture and dislocate my ankle too, hurt ever so much!

You know that game where you make three statements and one of them is a lie?
Well I was a shit-hot little striker (spotted the lie yet?). In truth, a decent little striker but was at a school where there were one or two better although I played for them many times. Played most of my football in the Army for the various Units I served in. On the whole, probably not such a lofty level but there were a hell of a lot of very good footballers in the services. Got the odd game at Brigade/Garrison level and twice played for RAOC (when they were particularly short of players). In truth, I lacked the talent to play much higher but was pretty adept at sticking the ball in the net regularly.
I'm guessing many will look at this thread and possibly not post simply because they don't feel they played at much of a level.......you SHOULD because football is such a bloody fantastic family and anyone who has ever played the game at ANY level is part of that family. The rules are largely the same if you play for Manchester United or Springfields Junior School....we all played/play the same game. That is what often riles me when it comes to some of the ex-pro pundits who speak with such authority on the game of football. The truth is, they know no more or less than the rest of us about a game that we've all played for many years. They have just been lucky/talented enough to play at a much higher level.

Staffs County Senior League Premier Division but it's a lot of effort even at that level. Still doing it now but enjoy Sunday mornings a lot more if I'm honest. Not as much pressure and a bit more freedom.
Being a full back, I prefer kicking wingers and strikers than scoring goals.

Couldnt even say what league they play in now. Think they still play at Wood Park. They fell on hard times last few years i think.

I played for them for 3 seasons between '84 and '87 with the likes of pudder, mickey cowden , Ian Wheaton etc When I go home to see the fossils and if theyre playing at home and I cant ge tickets for Stoke I go to wood park and watch them. The old clubhouse and changing rooms have gone unfortunately
