Bowling from Jordan and Finn far too wayward. You can't give as many 4 balls away as they do in an innings it's amatuerish. Fair play to Woakes he seems to have found an extra 5mph of pace and you can't knock his line and length, he's making a case to become one of our test seamers as it stands.... Jordan is becoming a real issue now, getting tonked in all formats and only saves extras in tests because it's more lenient. Broad copped a bit of a battering too, but he's coming up to full fitness I suppose.

Australia's win last night might have looked like a stroll in the park but there are still a number of issues that need to be addressed prior to the World Cup; Watson's lack of consistency is not the least of the Australian selectors worries. I suppose it's terrific that he wasn't out LBW last night - thats a plus. He is perhaps the most frustrating batsman of recent years. Bags of talent with both bat and ball, a sound test average of around just under 40 and a good bowling technique. However, he has developed a forward defence that can't be trusted, shot selection that at times doesn't make sense. This is compounded by the selection committee seemingly not being able to make up their minds of his role in the team. Is he a specialised first drop batsman and part time bowler or a genuine all rounder with definite bowling responsibilities. His conversion rate (50's to 100's) is ordinary for a premier batsman too. What the devil was maxwell doing last night. He seemed to have a death wish. Using conventional batting, his form in the local T20 has been improving match by match. Could be that the coach told him to accelerate the run rate in an effort to land the bonus point. Whatever happened his time at the crease was a disaster waiting (not long) to happen.
Mitch Starc continues to impress although Pat Cummins is a bit of a concern. The young quicks are lining up for a dig in the Tri Series. The W.Indies and Ashes tours are a lucrative incentive for a a number of players this year. I haven't been following English cricket too closely so I'm not aware of any issues, but what has happened to Broad? His performance last night was not of the same level as the Broad that was last here for the Ashes. He has lost some of fire we associate with him. Back to an Australian fan wish list. We need a stroke making 3. We need a solid all rounder. Haddin needs a stand in / up an coming replacement in the wings. We need a pair of world class recognised spinners. (one leggy and one off would fit the bill) Australia need a fit Davie Warner. He was not running as freely last night. Apparently there is a hamstring problem. We need a fit Warner to have a chance of taking the trophy. The medics need to look after him. Just a last comment. Coming up to the World Cup there hasn't been too much said of the Kiwi chances. I think they could make a bit of a mess if their opposition doesn't take them seriously.

I think they could make a bit of a mess if their opposition doesn't take them seriously. Broad's only just coming back from surgery mate, he had it on his knee which has been troublesome for some time. He'll be back to his best soon I'm fairly certain of it. I've heard some noises from Healy saying Sam Whiteman (of South Yorkshire Birth ) is being groomed as the next Aus wicky, any truth in that? As for Maxwell, I know he can hit a few, but he just comes across as one of those players who's convinced himself he has to be a slogger, watched him in IPL which he initially took by storm, but then tailed off violently, getting out playing silly reverse sweeps to Narine etc, I think he finished third highest run scorer having being about 250 runs clear at one stage. I think Watson will go down as a "what might have been" for Aus, if he wasn't so fragile early on and had managed to maintain some consistency with the bat I think he could have been another Kallis. Kiwis are my dark horses too, McCullum, Williamson, Taylor, Latham and Guptill are great batsmen. In the bowling department they have the superb Boult/Southee combination and then this Milne fellow breaking through who bowls at 95mph, backed up by McCleneghan and all knitted together with Mr Reliable himself, Daniel Vettori. As for England's chances I don't hold out much hope, I could bowl a more consistent line than Jordan at the moment and I think our attack looks a bit powder puff other than Woakes. Sooner Anderson returns the better. Our only chance is that Moeen Ali continues to be a revelation at the top of the order, and that Morgan continues his superb form with the bat when he's captain.

England's batting down to 7 looks, potentially, as good as anyone's in this tournament.
The bowling is the big worry. Our two main bowlers are both coming back from England, the remaining seamers all have questions over their ability at this level albeit Woakes looks promising but he is very inexperienced. Jordan lacks control, Finn lacks pace and control which sort of means he offers nothing. Our spinner is only there because Swan isn't; he's OK, but the selectors know Australia is a tough place for an orthodox off spinner so clearly have a concern about how to use him.
It was no surprise to see Australia chase down England's total inside 40 overs.
I think England's best bet is to bowl first, try and keep the score to a catchable total then hope the batting clicks - which it can do.

Demolition job here. 143/8. 5 for Finn. Well - that's very promising! I didn't see it, but it seems Finn rediscovered his line albeit not yet his full pace. But it's a start. Also great to see Anderson back bowling well and taking wickets. But it's just one good bowling day - need a few more of those! Interesting that they still didn't select Tredwell. Now, let's see Bell continue. 28 not out is a good start - but starts have not been Bell's problem recently. It's pushing past 30/40 and making a match winning score. Do it today Mr Bell! Edit: just seen we won by 9 wickets. Bell 88 not out. Well done Mr Bell. Keep up the good work!

I've only managed to see some of the highlights , but it just shows what can happen if you bowl the correct length and more importantly the right line ......we seem to have done that today with excellent results , and a very competent performance with the bat topped off a good performance all round ....wel done boys much better stuff .

Solid England performance. Can only imagine that the curry was off the night before.
Taking key wickets at the right time and of course Bell's batting gave the team the edge. This result has in effect opened up the Tri Series. It's anyone's to win.
I note that Bailey has copped a ban for slow over rates. I'm wondering who will take the reigns, Haddin or Smith. Just hoping that Davie can curb his enthusiasm next time out. He really must learn to think before opening his mouth. Fat chance! Great batting asset but, oh dear, a PR nightmare.

England 303-8
Positive point; Bell. Superb 141. I wonder if getting dropped in Sri Lanka has helped him rediscover his focus and purpose. I believe there is a point in the approach of continuity in selection which gives a player a sense of security moves into complacency. And I reckon, in the past couple of years, Too many England players crossed that line; Bell, Cook, Pietersen, Trott, Prior. Need to get that balance right; you still need to perform to play.
Negative point; 50+ off the last 10 overs. We created the platform to score 350 and messed up the end of the innings. Bopara continues to be an enigma; seems to me he contributes when chasing a list cause, but when we pushing to win, or establish a winning position he doesn't deliver. That's just a perception - but I bet there's truth in it. He's done enough to merit a place in the starting 11, but today was poor. CMON BOYS - that last 10 overs you should be in T20 mode not creeping along at under a run a ball.
So now to the bowling. We've posted a competitive (but, sadly, not daunting) total. Let's see what you can do now with the ball.

It's all steps in the right direction, I can't remember a time in which we've been scoring at the rate we have been doing. I don't want to criticise the bowling today as the pitch was a carpet and conditions more or less perfect for batting. We've been undone by good death bowling and some Steve Smith brilliance, which at this level is enough to see you come up short.

We've been undone by good death bowling and some Steve Smith brilliance, which at this level is enough to see you come up short. In the end - not enough runs. We posted a par score. The bowling was fine; no one got taken to the cleaners. As you say - steps in the right direction. Our top order is looking good. Our bowling more consistent. Today's issue is crystal clear; and a little surprising. I'd say it is an aberration because our lower middle order can usually be relied on to score well in the final overs. Bopara is the one English player who'll be worried after today. A diabolical batting performance that cost us the game then trusted to bowl just one over which went for 11 runs. But he has enough credit in the bank to keep his place. As mentioned above though, I have this impression that he only performs when the pressure is off chasing lost causes. We need folk to win games, not to shine brightly in defeat! Maybe bring in Balance who I'd trust more as a batsman, if that is effectively what Bopara is going to be.

Smith continued his fine run of form. Whatever it is that's driving him the Australian management need to identify and bottle. He's been outstanding at Test and limited over cricket both as player and captain. I'm wondering if Michael Clark should be looking over his shoulder.
The side had a strange feel about it with Warner. He was, without doubt, missed in the field and the normal sense of anticipation at the start of the Australian innings wasn't there.
The last 10 overs of the England innings were magnificent (from the Australian POV) Restricting England to on boundary after over 46 at the time when there should, and normally is, a rapid acceleration was the difference between the teams. Sat one stage a 320 / 340 total was not expected, however, panic took over and that gave Australia the chance they shouldn't have been accorded. The team hat trick at the end was bizarre. Bell was superb. It was a great pity he was not awarded the MOTM. Have a thought for Bailey having to sit in the shed watching his team go around at his home ground. He doesn't get the chance to often to skipper the side and to be suspended for this game was cruel. I think the quickies should all put their hands in their pockets and at least pay George for the revenue he lost because of their collect tardiness. I have, in recent years, enjoyed Broad's bowling and his commitment and look forward to seeing him restored to former glories in time for the World Cup.
By the way, Haddin was terrific. It's a pity he gave his wicket away the way he did at the end. He could have been responsible for an Australian loss. As it was his demise set up a very tight finish. Not to worry, all's well that ends well. Special mention of Woakes. Well played that man! Should be a ripper of a World Cup competition. I still have a sneaky feel that the Kiwi's might go further than most other teams. They certainly took SL apart. Well done Ronchi and Elliot.

Well - a brilliant performance from England in the field until the last wicket came in.
Then an appalling over from Woakes, followed by a lacklustre effort from the previously impeccable Anderson allowed India's 10 and 11 to post 35 for the last wicket.
I know last wicket partnerships happen, but England played their part here bowling short and wide giving space to these tail Enders to have a slog. Add to that poorly delivered slow balls going for wides and a ridiculous missed run out because Anderson couldn't be bothered to get behind the stumps to collect the ball. (I'm sure Finn made the same mistake in an earlier game). Bowl at the bloody stumps!
So 200 all out it ended.
The last wicket partnership shouldn't matter - it's now Englands game to lose. I don't see that happening. Be nice to see us win with confidence and a bit of style. But England need to reflect on that death bowling and letting standards drop. Need to maintain the intensity throughout the game.

That was a great victory - superb from Butler and Taylor.
All the batsmen with one exception have now scored runs. The only one still to make any impact is Bopara. Seeing as they are using him only as a batter I'd bring in Ballance at his expense. Harsh - but they've been harsh with Tredwell. Meaning performances in Sri Lanka don't secure a place in Australia. If that applies to bowlers it should also apply to the batsmen.
The bowling is also looking very good. Today was first class apart from letting things slip with the final wicket to take.
