gfycat.com/AnyMerryFeline#There's a lot of fuss about this amongst neutrals, with bizarre claims that he should have seen red. An absolute nothing of an incident, so far as I'm concerned. Edit: the link might not work.

Weird by begovic I thought, never a red and I guess he is discouraging RVP from challenging him. Cheeky move and if he'd made real contact then its a red but it's never a red as he never touched him.... Got Van Persie nice and pissed off though which was good to see! EDIT: not sure I said the word red enough there

Given VanPersies record of assaulting our goalkeepers, just defending himself.

Earlier on in the game Van Persie deliberately ran into Bego when he had the ball in his hand, it must have been Bego's way of telling him not to try it again

He knew what he was doing, just giving him something to think about next time he goes up against him for the ball, to call for any action is ridiculous.

Bego has a habit of really showing his studs when he claims a ball. It's aggressive and assertive and it's all part of stamping his authority on his penno area. I like it generally but I hope he doesn't actually catch anyone because he could be in trouble.

Seen Bego do this before. Effective until a striker carries on running straight into his boot.

It was a strange action by Begovic. There was very little danger to Van Persie but my theory after the incident was that Begovic was deliberately attempting to plant a seed of doubt in Van Persie's mind to intimidate him into not fully committing to his runs onto lofted passes for fear of receiving a kick to the chest.

Van Persie had 2 little niggles at Bego when he had the ball in his hands and on one of the occasions Bego gave him a pat on the back as If to say "Unlucky Son". The third he lifted his foot up to say "If you do it again, you will come off worse than me"
A nothing incident, just a keeper protecting himself against a vicious off the ball player!

He does it quite often, and he will catch somebody someday. But until then at least it gets the opposition pissed off

Bego had van Persie and Falcao on his toes all game and was getting a bit sick of it.
Fair play to him.

Yep, good goalkeeping You're taught to do that as a goalkeeper from an early age. It's called protecting yourself. I would love to know where the ill-feeling between Shawcross and Van Persie comes from though? There were allegations of Shawcross breaking off an interview in the tunnel after last seasons game at the Theatre of Shite to confront Van Persie together with allegations of a tunnel punch up at the Brit after last seasons game.

Percy filth likes to give it out, the nasty piece of work he is, but he's not so keen when he's matched. How I'd like to slap his face. Repeatedly.

Went in elbow first on Shawcross a few times as well. Bego should have put his studs through his chest

Sadly, if it gets mentioned at all on MOTD, I sense the pundits coming down on RvP side and saying it should have been a card

Think he should have gone...thought it was poor form of him. Hopefully he won't do anything like that again. We have a rep as it is, which we're trying our best to shake, and things like that aren't helping.

The thing is RVP was three foot away when this happened so why he reacted like that is his problem.

If that in any way warrants being shown a card, god forbid a red card, we may as well all pack up, piss off home and never bother playing another game of football again.

I can understand why Begovic does it, but it's also dirty to do. Obviously a player will pull out if they see a keeper coming at them with studs showing, even if the keeper makes no contact, it's dodgy.

It was fucking stupid, unprovoked in that incident and in plain sight for the officials.

Ryan seems like he has some character, some decency, so I like to think its purely down to how much a cunt Van Persie is

If he got a red I wouldn't have slagged the ref off, I'd be slagging him off. Unneeded and is undoing the good work of what a lot of our players are trying really hard to do - changing the perception of our football club. Hopefully this will only be one off.
