A towering colossus of a man who is also one of the most gentlemanly, humble and grounded sportsmen of all time, the media campaign against him and the continued rejection from the international fold shows what a sad nation we've become, you won't find him stumbling out of clubs at 4am absolutely off his tits then crashing his Bentley into a tree, yet we seem fine with this sort of behaviour from the rest of the degenerates in the England squad.
A family man, a superb defender and undoubtedly a Stoke City legend.

I can't believe people listen to that shite still. It's like hospital radio put together by the patients at Broadmoor. I agree mate its second rate but today is was worth listening to for Glynn's passion I text in with the below but it never git an airing! "Stoke Lee why do you commentate on Stoke? You obviously don't like us and always like pointing out negatives and love an argument! Are you this objective with the fail?" He is an awful, arrogant commentator and just likes to cause friction!

The only thing that I find worrying if he got a recall to the national team after the media also seem to be championing his cause in some quarters is that the pressure would be enormous to the extent of everything getting magnified tenfold. Even in the lead up it'd be everything about his last call up even if it was a bloody farce.

Superlative again - we have to recognise we have to treat him as our own 'dirty little secret' and for those who want England recognition for him - be aware - fully aware, that he will not be ours for long after that
we need to keep this in house fellas
I for one am absolutely delighted that today there are lots of high scoring games that will draw media attention away from our draw and our Ryan
for it also surely draws attention away from the fact our centre half has had yet another pair of supposed 'world class' strikers in his back pocket yet again

He's moved to another level now. He's matured into a true leader under Hughes (I love Tone so please don't let that comment turn this into another fucking shit thread) and his footballing has moved on.
I think Hughes is pushing him on the leadership front - doing more media, talking more on the pitch.
So proud to have him representing our club.

Quite simply the most in-form centre back in the Premier League this season.

Best defence outside of the top 4 (goals conceded)
You don't do that without being a decent centre half. Majority of those games with Marc Wilson as his centre half partner as well!!!!!!
As someone said earlier, kept every world class striker in the league in his back pocket. Giroud, Costa, Rooney, van Persie, Kane, Austin, Lukaku.

Quite simply the most in-form centre back in the Premier League this season. Future England captain. If he ever leaves Stoke for Man.Utd, that is.

Mine is as this guy could have captained our club from the moment he walked through the door because he's such level headed and knows what he wants from life and knows how to get it. I remember telling him around 7 years ago that for someone so young you don't half take no shit and aren't frightened of anyone to which not only him but his mother laughed out loud. He's a natural born leader and it made me laugh when someone came on here to say that he's not a captain because he's too quiet, I mean from someone who spouts the biggest load of bollocks going on here I found that comment to be quite frankly staggering because same as I replied to that poster he never ever let's up. I hope he stays at Stoke for the whole of his footballing career and thereafter because I just cannot speak highly enough of him as both a player and an individual. He just simply oozes class.

Can't seeing anybody else better at defending, but could still improve his attacking play. That said he has also improved in this department!

For me he is the single most important player to our continued stay in the prem. If I have one worry (and I am a worrier) it is in his playing offside; nearly got caught out stepping up the other day and seemed to stand half a pace deaper than the defence on occasion today and appeal for offside when he was playing the striker on. Maybe wrong; probably am but will watch it on telly later to see if my impression is correct.

Meanwhile, Gary Cahill is busy looking shit all game, has given away a penalty and now has two hacks at Harry Kane while he's on the floor.
And he's deemed the best of a bunch that in turn is deemed better than Shawcross. I despair.

Agree with all of this 100%. Just to add - not only does he do his his job superbly but the way he leads the defence through the game is just fantastic. Brilliant example for any youngsters (like my son) with aspirations to play centre half.

In defence of Ryan i instinctively thought that he stepped up in the hope that the linesman would have a mare and flag for offside because he immediately knew that there was no cover at all to the left of him and therefore he could do nothing about him 'Costa' it was.

He is the perfect example of a true professional. it worry me he doesn't have the recognition he deserves, although it could be bad for stoke if he plays for england because he could leave Id like to see him playing for his country because im sure he really wants it and he deserves it.
