I remember in the mid 70's, sitting in Blurton club concert room at weekends as a small child.....layer upon layer of smoke hovering throughout the room my eyes steaming and stinging... "Mum...Dad, can we go now?.. my eyes hurt........."we're just going to have another one and then...." And then another......and another Wish I had childline number them days back to your thread..... Any responsible parent would never do that anyway

Thing is it's difficult to enforce apart from town centres where it's more visible.
This will lead to smoking bans in your house
Just ban the damn things and be done

Agree with this and about time. Could be interesting though because it is proposed the ban will be with anybody under the age of 18 in the car.

Can't be long before smoking in your home with children present is made illegal, although this,is obviously v difficult to police, that doesn't necessarily stop it being banned

Excellent news. Now it's time to ban the sale of alcohol, which is the biggest single cause of misery in the country and is responsible for many deaths. At the last count, 16% of all deaths on the roads were attributed to drink driving. Also, alcohol is responsible for more child abuse - sexual, mental, and physical - than tobacco ever will be, not to mention the violence it causes both within the home and outside in the general community.
So, think what a wonderful country it would be to live in if we banned both smoking and the sale of any alcoholic drinks everywhere. It would be Utopia. Oh... I almost forgot... let's ban the sale of all junk foods that are not calorie controlled and on the list of foods safe to eat. Think of the welfare of the kids who won't grow up to be diabetic or overweight, which will shorten their lives dramatically. And while we're at it, let's move all schools so they're at least 400 metres from any road. (I see that has already been mooted because the fumes from vehicles are a health hazard.)
Anything else? Well, we could start by banning kids from professional football games. It can't be good for them to be exposed to tribalistic behaviour by adults who should know better. Ferfuxake, this is the 21st century and our kids should be protected from the slightest thing that might cause them harm, physically or mentally.
So let's be 'avin' yer! Don't sit smugly on your anti-smoking agenda arses without you lobby for all the other common sense measures I've outlined. You don't want to be called a hypocrite, do you?
I neither smoke or drink, so I'm alright... Jack.
OS.

Have I woken up in North Korea? What next, limiting how much heat a boiling kettle eminates?. We're on our way. I grew up in a house where my mam and dad smoked Woodbines continuously; my granddad sat in the corner puffing on the twist in his pipe; the smoke across the potteries was so thick you couldn't see 100 yards at times, so how the hell I've managed to reach my 8th decade is a fucking mystery! It doesn't need a law or criminalising it leads to more
A doctor told me if you have a fag outside and pick up a baby the tobacco on your clothes is just as bad as having a fag
Now I'm not saying that is true but let's say it is.
If you smoke 20 a day in your can but pick up the kids it would have the same effect?
The only smoking law worth bringing in is banning the sale of cigarettes to anyone born is since 2000

I'd support an anti-binge drinking campaign, as that's where I think the problem is with alcohol in this country. For what it's worth, I'm neither for nor against the law proposed in the original post. I'm not sure how big a problem it is to be honest. My post was only aiming to point out that your considerable age is no proof of the benefits or drawbacks of smoking.

Well, I just replied to the opening post on smoking Food for thought tho your argument on alcohol numbers? I'm not as sure on the figures as you are but, if you are correct then yes I agree The smoking ban would be ridiculously difficult law to enforce......but what it would do, would be to put the thought in parents/adults thoughts........hopefully that is all it would take to stop a lot of people
