Sorry Marc, I don't really buy into this argument that the leak gave the authorities chance to find a reason to deny him a work permit. If he gets (or has already got) a Cypriot passport he IS entitled to enter and work in Britain and play football in England. Now, there is UKIP who would like to take us out of the EU and the Tories some of whom would like to remove the automatic right of EU passport holders to enter and work in the UK. But either of those things would require legislation and that is not going to happen until after the General Election - if at all. And, if he has (or gets) a Cypriot passport then he is going to be signed up to us (or another club) long before a General Election and new legislation. Nothing to do with the FA finding reasons, the Cypriots could of found reasons not to grant him a passport, he is hardly going to be settling down their and helping their economy He doesn't need to settle down there to contribute to their economy. He's spent however many hundreds of thousands of Euros on buying the house. He'll spend thousands more on furnishing it and employing staff to keep it and the grounds spick and span and, possibly, he may let it out when he isn't using it and that will boost the tourist trade. He might decide he likes being a property owner and letting company and buy another property in good time - after all, if he succeeds at Stoke he'll hardly be short of cash if he wants to expand in Cyprus will he? Where he lives is irrelevant - money earned in Cyprus will be taxed by Cyprus and money earned in England will be taxed in England.

If he's got the passport, just seems a bit odd that it's not officially been announced and training fully with the team. The 6 wk time frame mentioned when he was doing whatever he was doing at Wolves would've been reached several weeks ago. Okay, he can't join the 25 until Jan 1st(and he may not even feature much this season) but he clearly needs weeks of proper training after 6 or 7 months out of the game if he's to be be available or be an attractive loan option for a team elsewhere. Is he actually any good, will he turn out to be another American flop ala Shea and Edu, don't think he pulled up many trees in Holland according to the reports I have seen, if we need a striker and personally I believe we do we need one who is fit and can hit the ground running. Priority has to be a proper CB to shore up that position alongside hopefully Ryan, Wilson is not the answer on a permanent basis.
