there are massive economic ramifications I agree but we keep getting told that the net benefits of immigration outweighs the cost when it comes to scaremongering it's the social issues that take precedence I'm sure I read somewhere recently that immigration from EU countries provides a net economic benefit to the UK which wouldn't surprise me at all and little or no increase in crime or antisocial behaviour (although you wouldn't think so, reading the stories in the Hate!), whereas immigration as a whole costs the country. In which case, why campaign to leave Europe Exactly what I said that immigration is a social rather than economic issue. and you pulled me up on it.

Emily Thornbury proving the contempt labour have for the voters. Are you surprised? Most of us on here have been saying for years that there is no difference between Labour and Conservative these days and hasn't been for years. Following their lurch to the right under Tony Blair, Labour is increasingly full of precisely the same type of Oxbridge educated folk who have long dominated the Tory Party, no doubt with similar attitudes to the 'great unwashed' (Although if by posting a picture of a St George's cross bedecked house, she meant to imply the occupants might be ignorant dickheads, she was bob on: "What election?" ???) So someone not interested in politics is an ignorant dickhead. ?

Standard formal definition of ignorant: "to be unaware; to be lacking in knowledge [of something]; lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated; like mcf off the Oatcake" [sorry, last one was mine ] I'd say being completely oblivious to an important by-election in your own constituency a few months short of a general election at a time when politics has been in the news almost constantly (the Scottish referendum, UKIP etc) makes you look a bit of a dickhead when replying "What election", yes.

No, I'm saying it is an economic issue and not a social one especially. Recent migration from EEA has had a net benefit, immigration as whole since the 50s has apparently been a drain on public finances, in which case why do people vote for UKIP as they will be shooting themselves in the foot economically (and for lots of other reasons tbf ). If immigration was cost/benefit neutral I'd agree it wasn't an economic issue. Socially, I don't see it as an issue, since it is really only the rightwing press scare story headlines which seek to promote an image of increased crime in areas with higher migrant populations. Most of them are young and have come to work as recent figures demonstrated.
