Yes, he does make some mistakes which prove to be costly
But today for long periods in the first half, he was the best of a bad bunch.
But that is splitting hairs
Last season, at the end, we were still pretty crap in defence, going behind to a goal more times than not
The difference was, we looked like and did score
But the issues were there, masked by a clicking front line
This season so far, the same defensive issues remain and it is a collective, with our full backs getting done pretty much some period in every game, the goalkeeper having a slow start and even our captain looking indecisive on more than one occasion
Now our front line looks like they do not know each other - Crouch is so often isolated like early last season; Arnie looks like he did this time last season = very indifferent to the club with no desire; Moses just gets knackered and can not score; Diouf looks promising, but apart from one wonderful goal, so far flatters to deceive
Our midfield continue to play statues, no matter who we put in there - Adam is yet again so hit and miss (but at least he hits sometimes). Fonz just does what he does, which is not enough going forward. Cameron - it is too early but today all three did not, yet again. seem to know in the first half who should sit and who should go
Yet again, we can not string 2 halves together - same as last season One half is nearly always tepid walking football
Sure Wilson has a part to play in this, but come on, the whole team right now needs a bit of a soul search, as does the manager with the same tactics that got us nowhere this time last season - if it is predictable to us, it must be for other managers

I've noticed summat hanging around Wilson as well! What is it?
EDIT: All can be explained - it's his beard!

We look so disjointed, disorganised and clueless it makes you wonder what they do on the training ground all week.
A strong centre back pairing would go a long way to improving that.....and Wilson is not the answer. He's not a good centre half,he's not a good midfielder and he's only an adequate right back.

He was costing us goals last season, he's costing us goals this. People who cost us goals need fucking off.
There are other issues and goalscoring is one of them, no one is denying but that's a much harder thing to solve than the Wilson issue. That's dead easy to solve.
Both need solving or I think we'll struggle badly.

Not sure - he has shown he can do it, and to make him the scapegoat is wrong I believe. Today for a lot of the first half, he was in my eyes actually the best of a bad bunch. Ryan looked shaky and both fullbacks were run ragged and positionally were all over the place

That for me is utterly shite defending. We cannot afford to have someone like that in the side who's mistakes keep costing goals and they do! It's not scapegoatism, most of the goals this season have on common denominator.

You do have a bit of thing for him though fella Still for me seems to distract from an awful lot of others underperforming and tactics that leave a lot to be desired Walters again starting, leaving us lob sided - Arnie coming on and looking like he could not give a shit

Yes, but if they had their shooting boots on, they could have been out of sight and none of those mistakes were down to Wilson - not defending him, just highlighting it is more than just him at the back - I repeat our fullbacks got done so many times, first half and our front line may as well taken the day off along with our midfield

This is all too similar, with the same defence going on of Wilson that used to go on for Collins. It's laughable in fact. It's all wank, I've had a right good rant on Twitter about Walters, I think we're going to struggle this season Suffolk, you're preaching to the choir me owd! But I do think Wilson is a massive part of why we will.

Apart from Man City, we have not put a 100% in I sadly think we are in for a very tough season, so agree with you I am now in the 'we should not go down' as opposed to 'we will not go down' camp Walters starting - give me a break

I've been holding onto Joeleon's mobile number for hughes to call this last window. I still stick by that statement. We need a first team quality CB badly. Wilson is not a CB and never will be in the PL at a high level, he's a Left wing fullback disguised as a CB for his passing abilities to the midfield. He just doesn't know it and sadly neither does leslie. I'd rather have Muniesa or Geoff at CB he's costing us a goal a game nearly. After looking at the Official Opta post match stats' Bardsley and Cameron where statistically in their positions versus Southampton our best players today. Not bad for two shite RB's eh?

I'm proper worried about this season, we look awful and I've been saying that from the off.

Agree to disagree - we got away with so much today, so to single out that header and the lack of follow up defensive support from others is glossing over a much wider issue

If we ever looked like a threat up front, the odd error at the back would go completely unnoticed.
We rarely ever look like scoring......

Some of the goals Wilson gets blamed for his was not the primary fault. When you bang on about one individual's errors and ignore others then that very much IS scapegoatism

I don't want to attack Wilson really, he seems a decent bloke. But how in the hell is he preferable to Robert Huth - unless the surgery didn't work and the German now has a wooden leg under his tracksuit?

That's not normal! If Shawcross' errors start costing us then I will bang on about them but he has money in the bank and they don't. Wilson has no money in the bank (I thought he was a calamity last season too) and his mistakes cost us. There's no such thing as scapegoatism. Why? The scapegoat is usually the worst player in a side, here we are..... And in general he may not be the worst but his errors make him such. I said in May of this year that if he starts 10 league games we will struggle, here we are struggling.
