For me the reason why Sunderland had so much freedom down the left was due to Assaidi being a lazy b*stard throughout the match. It was a combination of Assaidi losing Jones and Muni's positioning being a bit iffy I thought. He got forward brilliantly though.

From my point of view Muni was following his man and Assaidi was not. And Assaidi for me started off very poorly and got better within the last twenty minutes. He ran into opposition players and when he lost the ball he sat on his arse. And don't get me started on Arnie.

Lee Sandford at Walsall 91/92 Joe, didn't Sandford play as a centre half that night? Anyway, Mikael Hansson scored twice in a 4-1 win against Bristol Rovers in about 2000, when Mr G was the manager! Hansson sneaks it! Anymore suggestions?

I've said it all along but for me I'd be giving him a chance in midfield. He's too good a player to be on the sidelines every week and is wasted at left-back.

Shades of Mike Pejic there. Likes to run at people and got a good, powerful shot on him.Good all round performance by the lads. Shows how much we've improved when we can turn a team out like that, and still have a first class bench.

Just a thought, I wonder how Muni' would perform as an attacking midfielder, good skills and most important based on his performance last night he can shoot accurately, something that the current m/fielders lack, Adam excepted, might be worth a try if any future injuries leave us short in m/field.

Super player. Give him a bit more time in this league and he'll have a permanent spot. Well, I hope so.

It would be harsh on Erik when he is dropped, because it's coming..., but Muniesa deserves his chance. I think he's improved beyond recognition from when he first joined us.

If we were to drop 4-2-3-1 and play the 4-3-3 formation that we played against QPR, then I think there's an entirely justifiable shout for trying him in the position that Adam played in that match. ---------------------Begovic-------------------- Bardsley------Ryan-----Huth------Pieters ---------------------Whelan-------------------- ---------N'Zonzi-------------Muniesa------- -------Diouf------------------------Moses---- ----------------------Crouch--------------------

My only concern would be if/when Muniesa got forward to support Moses on the left whether they would get too carried away by it all and leave Pieters exposed. However, it is a commendable attempt to utilise Muniesa in a more attacking role - and he certainly deserves the chance to show what he can do in midfield. Don't take this the wrong way, but I was thinking about Bale the other day, where he is now (and how good he is now) and thinking back to the first time I saw him "in the flesh" when he was a not very good effective full back at Spurs who got sent off that night we mullered them in our first season in the Prem. Commons is another player who started out as a full back but has spent almost all of his career as an attacking (goal scoring) midfielder. Thierry Henry arrived at Arsenal as a decent but not exceptional winger. It isn't a long list - but there are several players who have been re-invented in a different position and blossomed as a result.

We already have enough CMs not playing regularly without rocking the boat any more. Get rid of a couple in January (Palacios and Sidwell - easier said than done) and that gives Muni more opportunity to get a game in there (if capable).

Muniesa's speed and attacking ability , to say nothing of his shooting already puts him way above the likes of Arnautovic. He has oodles of star quality that the Austrian can only dream about ...
Two shots two goals

Surely, nobody can turn a blind eye not only to last night'd individual performance from the man from La Masia, but even more so the convincing and above average games he has played since joining us from Barca. It was clear when we signed Muni that he was no mug, having come through Barcelona's famous youth system - not only does he provide a threat down the left, he is also incredibly versatile, and can play centre half and defensive midfield as well as the left back role as an understudy to Erik Pieters that us Stoke fans have been accustomed to. But there lies the question, which I believe is a headache for Sparky... Muniesa should play ahead of Pieters? Muni is first in to the tackle, and isn't your stereotypical Spanish footballer. His continental skill mixed with the gym work which we've now been told about has bulked him up into tough nut to. He's got the elegance of a Ferrari, mixed with the brutality of a battered old Land Rover, and he ain't half pacey too! I have nout against Pieters and he's been nothing short of 8/10s most weeks since we brough him in from PSV, but I do think Hughesy should really consider starting Muni this weekend. COYP!!

Agree entirely with this. I also think that he and Bojan worked very well together at times during pre-season so I would like to see both playing more forward. I'm not sure who I would drop but I think Muni has more to offer defensively than Charlie, and Bojan probably has more to offer at speed up front than either Diouf or Crouch. Unbeaten now in how many away games on the trot?? Gooaarn Stoke.

I'd give him a game and I'm a big Pieters fan, I just feel he deserves a chance after working hard to get himself acclimatised and biding his time. His confidence will be sky high lets see what he can do......

Gooaarn Stoke. Six! Won 3, drawn 3 - I bet we'll still get lazy pundits saying we have a bad away record, though!

Two good goals, but his defending wasn't good enough from a left back in my opinion. To me Pieters is a superior defender to Muniesa and therefore he should keep his place.

I actually think Hughes has NO option but to start him. Coming in and scoring 2 goals to win a game from any position, should mean you keep your place.
Overall he is still missing something defensively for me, and Pieters is the safer option.
BUT based on past form Hughes should and WILL give Muniesa a start on Monday at left-back.
I would put money on it
