Everton don't have the money to sign Shawcross, the only chance they would have is if he was unsettled, I don't believe he is.Everton have done well but have hit their glass ceiling, no chance of them getting CL this season or any other season, they just don't have the money to compete.

Littlewoods when the Pools were more important than th'Lottery was where Everton got the cash from. And then catalogues, they were the biggest hitters cash-wise for a while. But nowadays they'd need to build a new stadium first for Ryan to play in.

Just about sums up the Daily Mail. They take a, deliberately made up, Twitter rumour and print a back page story based on it without doing any research at all. The Oatie board can, possibly, be excused for going into meltdown for such a daft reason on the night before deadline day. What is the Mail's excuse?

I haven't trawled through the thread, but my first thought was "why would he go to Everton to be 3rd or 4th choice centre-back?"
After all, Jagielka and Stones are (according to Woy) better than him, so Ryan would only be a bench-warmer. Unless Woy's got it wrong of course....
As above posters have alluded to, hopefully it's all bollox!

If Everton or anyone else meet stokes valuation, Ryan would leave.
He's livid at being overlooked by England yet again in favour of Stones and now Chambers. He believes it's because he's a Stoke City player that he's not getting picked.
So you can blame Roy Hodgson if he does go!

My concern is Man Utd could get involved rather than Everton, however I feel they are under pressure to make a "superstar' style signing.
Ryan , being an English player will also boost the quota of home grown players

Stoke don't need the cash. MH cannot possibly want to sell his Club Captain, who is the first name on the team sheet every week. If Stoke can continue improving of course Ryan will get more attention. It is should be obvious to anyone that the reason he has not made recent England squads is because the Manager was not impressed when he was last selected, and not because he plays for Stoke, or else how did he get selected in the first place. He won't be going anywhere, anytime soon.

Do you really believe that if he played for Arsenal. .Chelsea. .Man U/City etc etc he wouldn't be in the England team?

I can see Shawcross being interested if a serious offer was made. He would be stepping up to join a bigger club, will have european football and will end up straight in England squad. I can see a deal being done for £18mil.

Ok boys and girls, if he goes, who are we going to get in as replacement in a short space of time? We wont need a replacement Cameron would fit in nicely and it is his preferred position. Not ideal but just pointing out it could happen as its not vital that we sign a replacement.

I'm not blinded by 3 games. I like Everton, wanted you to get into the Champions League last season and will do again if you're close to doing it, but you won't. Everton are a miles bigger club than Stoke but financially, if our owner wants to, we could outspend Everton easily. Big though the gap may be from 8th to 7th, and its huge, we still have as much chance of winning something as you. When was your last Cup Final appearance for example? Shawcross can do better than Everton and unless you're valuing him properly, assuming this latest interest is true (as I say you've tried and failed to get him 3 times before), you won't be signing him. Money isn't everything mate clubs like villa, Sunderland, QPR could out spend us but all 3 are a million miles off as perversely having to be shrewd with money has helped us build up a very good team overtime rather than what the likes of O'Neil did at villa and spunk £100+ mil on crap which has left them in a bad situation. I Dont know when those shawcross bids were put in but the past 12 months we have changed massively as a club. It was only 3 years ago today that we sold arteta, yakubu and Beckford due to financial problems and could only bring in the likes of royston drenthe on loan, fast forward 3 years to this window we have signed Lukaku, Eto'o, Barry, Besic, Atsu and Galloway to go with player's like Mirallas, Coleman, Barkley, Baines, McCarthy, Howard etc. Playing under a young attack minded manager I think the rumour has been proven false anyway like I assumed twitter is full of clowns! Or Herberts as our old manager would say. True or not, I just don't see Everton, great a club as you are, as enough of a step up for Ryan given everything he has at our club. I don't mean that in a derogatory sense at all because I can't stress enough how big and good a club Everton is. Anyhow, have a good season and keep your hands off our captain and best player. :-)
