Metallica are totally and utterly shit and believe me, i've listened to them. I've tried. And like Trouserdog's rule of thumb "anyone who says they don't like the Fall has no clue about music" there is an equal and opposite equation. "Anyone who likes Metallica...." you get it. I can't believe Motorhead weren't the first "heavy" band to headline Glastonbury. Metallica are a great live band......I preferred them to bonjovi when they were on the same gig Bought there album later and didn't like it half as much as live Bon Jovi?? Bon fucking Jovi??? You can't come on here slagging JonBon off Minnie. He's one of the greats. I'll start crying in a minute. If Metallica have ONE SONG that can get close to this, i'll eat Paulines Pen's jockstrap. He's the American Elton John ffs.

There is no way that Metallica have anything that competes with this. Mate, it was the first uk gig for bonjovi...Johnny boy pranced about like a glam rock bender for the whole of his act....don't get me wrong the band weren't bad and for me those early days were their best songs....better than that video BUT METALICA were better live and I'm no big lover of them either

I've seen loads of crap. A standout one was Metallica at Donnington 1984. I'd never have believed then they would become one of the worlds true mega giant bands. I like The Fall and Metallica, seen them both live too. My rule of thumb is if it sounds right it is right. I like Matt Munro too, I've a seriously illogical musical ear

As for worst gig...Gold Blade supporting The Sex Pistols , Finsbury Park 1996. Fucking terrible , although they're meant to be good. As for a name act, I'd say Eric Clapton. He was on after The Who at Hyde Park 1996, streams of people walking out. It sounded like a dreary bag of shite. Clapton is one of our most talented musicians with the most underwhelming output.

Tell you what though, I respect anyone who has stood on a stage with an audience in front of them, than anyone that hasn't.
I give them far more respect. And that's just me being a rate proper cunt.

I was at that gig mate! Terrible venue and I hated The Police. What happened to the Bingley Hall? It was never a good venue ...I saw Deep Purple there in about 74 ....poor in every respect I only went the once for that Police concert. I seem to remember it was built as some kind of agricultural market place for cattle auctions and the such like I expect the building may still be there but concert goers expectations have risen to the point where it is no longer considered acceptable!

Well concerts in those days were reminiscent of cattle markets , so it was quite fitting in that respect ! , I haven't been back in years so I'm not sure if it's improved or not, or whether they still hold those types of concerts any longer .

Was at the Union Bar at in 1982 and a really shit band were playing a gig. It was only at the end I was informed the band was Depeche Mode.
Worst concert I've been to.
Although Thin Lizzy in Newcastle in 1981 runs it close. A band going through the numbers. Dull as ditchwater.

Saw a plethora of shite in the late '70s when I could get in Viccy Hall any time for nowt, mainly punk bands and heavy metal.
Out of the ones I paid for - Toyah in Edinburgh (early 80s) Van Morrison, Porstmouth (early-mid 90s) Busted, London (not my choice my sons, about 10 years ago) were all absolute dog shit.
Only went to Bingley Hall once, to see ELO in 77/78, the gig was excellent, don't remember much about the hall itself.

Metallica and Bon Jovi both great 80s bands ........you tool OK seriously, I think we are talking two different genres, but Bon Jovi's songs, ignoring the hairspray and silly clothes, are right up there musically. Metallica just don't have the tunes. They just don't. For sure James Hetfield has the metal menace but he's no Richie Sambora - no way. Bon Jovi wee's on Metallica, musically and I find Hetfield's guitar sound, or the Metallica sound very formulaic, one dimensional and far less engaging than loads of other metal merchants. Style over substance. Master of Puppet's was a high point, but there are a couple of dozen proper metal albums i'd put in front of it. Metallica just depress me.

My top 5 worst live performances, made worse by the fact I was really looking forward to 4 of them.
1. Arctic Monkeys circa 2007 2. Arctic Monkeys 2009 3. Snoop Dogg 2014 4. Iron Maiden 2010 5. Secret Machines 2004.

Judas Priest probably early 80's when I was courting the Bride. Not saying they were shit as everyone else in there seemed to be having a good time but afraid I was bored shitless. One of the longest nights of my life.
